How good is this guy? Have any one you been able to see him play a decent amount to provide some reliable input? All I’ve seen is youtube highlights and he doesn’t really seems to "wow" me with anything. But he seems like he is a solid scorer so of course, there is always "the next Dirk" question when highly touted foreign big men come over. And now we’re having this Porzingis craze because of his high level of play so early in his career. So does Bender have a high enough skill set, confidence, and maturity to make an impact in the league right away or will he need some time to develop? Bender has good height and length but a slight build as of now, so it’s obvious that’s something he needs to work on. From the highlights I saw it seems like he has a solid shooting stroke, but it didn’t seem like he had the greatest array of legitment post moves. Also, there were almost no defensive or rebounding highlights so I’m not sure what to think about that. Again, I don’t know a whole lot about him so I’d like it if those of you who know more about him to enlighten me.

What are his strengths, weaknesses, potential, and are there any comparisons?

He is 7′ 1”, he can shoot, he will get stronger and bigger he is only 18.

It seems he likes to shot it from the outside much more than playing in the paint eventhough he has size advantage over most defenders.

He is also a really good passer for his position and has a good feeling for the game.

needs to add strength to become a good rebounder and a better interior defender

He doesn’t really have many post moves as you said, and seems to be a solid scorer but not a great one.

Potential? a 7 footer who can shot threes pass the ball and run pretty well, so he fits the modern NBA great.

He may end up a top 2 or top 3 pick in this draft. I know it’s early but I haven’t been too impressed with anyone besides Ben Simmons so far.

He has rised steadily. He is pretty much near top 5 or in the top 5 now.

to put his play into context, Bender is ahead of the development curve in comparison to Porzingis at age 18. He is a walking triple-double when he plays competition his age. Very-very high IQ and passing ability for a 7’1 player similar to the likes of Pau Gasol. Although it’s inconsistent he has the 3-point shooting ability to the point where he is definitely a PF in the NBA. Unlike Porzingis, if he has any secondary position it’s quite possible he could develop the mobility and outside game to play some SF on the offensive end. He likes to play outside primarily and is comfortable putting the ball on the floor and facing the basket.

His weaknesses are evident, but will be fixed with time for the most part. Not the greatest rebounder for his size, but even Prozingis wasn’t grabbing more than 5-6 boards a game in Spain so I think it’s possible that part of his game develops. He won’t ever be a great shot blocker, but I think his size-skill combo will be more intriguing than Porzingis because he’s truly an outside-inside player. Both of these guys can revolutionize the way the NBA utilizes big men and they look to be in the mold of players like Divac and Sabonis but more suited toward the stretch-4 of the new NBA. Very exciting stuff… should be the no. 2 maybe 3 prospect in my opinion.

It’s the Porzingis effect, aka the reality check effect. Nobody’s looking for the next great backup shooting guard this year.

First off the sky is the limit for a teenage 7footer with the physical tools, skill set and basketball IQ Dragan Bender already has. In my opinion worst case scenario he’s Detlef Schrempf. A 1-2 time All Star who does some of everything. Never a superstar or your #1 option but like I said, I think that’s worst case.

He is very talented and I like him a lot. But right now he is easily the worst player (by FAR) on one of the worst teams in all of the Euroleague.

I really like him, but USA is as usual just picking and choosing who they want to hype for marketing reasons.

European scouts were hyping him far earlier than anyone in the US caught on to the hype. And rightly so.

He’s struggling right now but the sky is the limit for the kid. Rarely you see such a combination of size, quickness, athleticism, ballhandling, passing, shooting and BB IQ.
