WhyParticipantIn recent years less players are participating and now players are not even showing up. This seems to be a trend. What is the point of the combine if few first round picks show up and participate in the drills? Teams can just measure players themselves when they bring them in right?
Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, McGary, Payne, Randle, Exum, Gordon, McDermott, Stauskas, Gary Harris, Elfrid Payton, James Young, Vonleh, Ennis, Tj Warren have all decided to either not show up at all, or only do the measurement portion. I’m sure there will be more to come.
Basically I’m asking does the combine have much of a purpose anymore, because if the combine keeps trending in this direction in 2 years the only people participating will be 2nd rounders and fringe first rounders.

DipoTimeParticipantI honestly think they should all be required to participate unless physically unable to. And if they are injured then have them replaced. I feel the same about the NFL combine as well. If you are one of the top prospects invited then you should participate. I honestly think these combines are overrated, but when scouts and GMs put so much emphasis on these results and look forward to seeing these athletes’ performances after waiting all year, then they should be rewarded ya know?

Magic JordanParticipantWhere are you seeing that list of players? Randle and a few others you mentioned were on NBAtv today saying they will participate in all of the drills.
I think all players should at least be required to do the measurements, the verticals and the agility drills unless injured so the NBA can keep a legitimate database on these numbers. In our age of technology and information it seems ridiculous that accurate NBA approved numbers aren’t required. The shooting and scrimmage drills, if a player doesn’t want to participate or is injured than that is one thing. The other drills I mentioned above should be required.
AT LEAST measurements, body fat, weight, etc. You can do those no matter how injured there is no reason to not force those to be required.

Magic JordanParticipantA couple of those posts were from two days ago. I know of that bunch Randle was on TV today saying he was looking forward to competing in everything. Sucks though I was really looking forward to it.
Can anybody think of a player who had an out of control slide just because of the combine? Has any player projected to go in the lottery fallen out of the first round before? These agents are getting ridiculous the kind of sway they have on everybody. They are straight politicians. At some points it’s going to be so common to not participate, that the cool thing will be to participate.

ChoppyParticipantPretty sure Exum is performing the drills and measurements sections. At least that’s what foxsports.com.au seemed to indicate.
