Drafting and stashing has become pretty popular, and some teams (Spurs) have a ton of success using these kinds of players. A couple questions on my mind regarding draft and stash players.

    1) Each year a bunch of International players get picked at the tail end of the second round with no intention of those guys playing any time soon. A lot of times these are guys who didn’t show up on any mocks and are unknown to many fans. Who are some players that could fit that bill this year? (guys not on the current mock you think might be taken and stashed)

    2) Do you think any notable drafted and stashed players are coming to the league next year? (guys like Livio Jean-Charles, Mirotic, Noguiera, etc.)

    3) Will the depth of the draft this year result in less draft and stash players? At the 55th pick, there may still actually be several players on the board who can realistically contribute (there will be undrafted players who would go in the 40s in other drafts, think guys like Cotton, Powell, Heustis, Kane).

Thanks in advance for the feedback

    1.  i think any euro not named micic, capela and herzonja is a draft and stash for many years.  bogdanovic is a 2nd round guy that is probably most likely to make it the next few years.

    2.  i think bebe is not coming next year (signed a 2 year deal last year with barcelona).  i would doubt livio jean-charles is needed next year with all the guys san antonio have under contract.  mirotic seems the most likely.  i believe san antonio has the best talent overseas with davis bartens and ryan richards.  i think they still have the rights to americans marcus denman (mizzou) and deshaun thomas (osu).

    3.  i’m going to guess that there still will be quite a few stash guys.  there isn’t much incentive for the latter 2nd round picks to draft an american when they can just go euro, keep their draft rights and go after the americans via free agency.

I truly believe that Mirotic could do wonders in Chicago. There are some great Euro players this year but my favourites are Alessandro Gentile and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Regarding your 3rd point, the thing is that when you draft a euro prospect, you have his rights in the (near) future. I think teams would rather let players go undrafted when reaching the back-end of the second round, so they can pick them up as undrafted players, especially when there is a large pool of potential impact players in a draft (like this year).

Livio Jean-Charles had an injury this year and was out for the season. Tony Parker said he will stay in France and is expected to have a break-out year.
