How would you feel about McDermott with the 7th pick?  7 might be a little high for him but I think he could come into the league and put up 15 ppg as a rookie.  And here is the thing about him, the biggest knock on him has been him being a liability on the defensive end.  After doing a little research from past combine results he actually measures quite favorably to some who are considered defensive stoppers.  .05 off from being identical to Chandler Parsons in the lane agility drill, and they have the exact same 3/4 court sprint time.  Mcdermott bests him in both vertical tests and the standing reach test.  They are actually quite similar, the biggest gap between the two is the height, but Doug makes up for it with almost the exact same wingspan.

Some other players Doug showed out better than at the combine in the lane agility drill surprisingly are – Andre Iguodala, Richard Jefferson, Gerald Green, Jimmy Butler, Danny Green, Jared Dudley, Ronnie Brewer, Martell Webster, John Salmons, Josh Smith, Wesley Johnson, Carmelo Anthony, Luol Deng,  Joe Johnson and Jeff Green.  Now Fresh obviously isn’t the same athlete as these guys but the fact that he bested them in the agility drill is pretty impressive, and has to translate into at least a mediocre defender, especially with the effort he plays with.

I will spare you the list of the 3/4 court sprint but he also tested better than some solid defenders in that as well, including about half of that list above.

While the times are promising you still have to defend a player who you have no idea which direction he is going to go. Doug does have a better lane agility time than a lot of those guys but would anyone in their right mind say Doug is more agile than Jimmy Butler or Iggy?

I think 7 is high for him and think he will got from 11-14 somewhere.

No I definitely wouldn’t say that, and I am sure he was practicing that same drill over and over for weeks to try to get his numbers down.  But it should say that he should be an average defender.  Or at least not terrible.

His defensive stats for his college career are 0’s ACROSS THE BOARD. Where are people getting that he’s goin to be able to defend nba guards and forwards. Laughable. He’s a shooter off the bench  and that’s it. I’m not sure about this but I really don’t think there’s a gm dumb enough to take him in the lottery.

Actually, I see Utah reaching and taking him at 5.

Embiid, Parker and Wiggins will go 1, 2, 3. I really see Exum as a point and theyll figure that out at workouts. They have Trey Burke, so I dont think theyll pick Dante, Marcus Smart or LaVine. If Vonleh, Gordon and Randle are still there, I cant see them biting on those guys either as they have Favors and Kanter. They moved Jefferson and Millsap to play Favors and Kanter, so I dont think theyll now go pick a power forward. Itd be a total backflip after trading all star caliber players, so they could give these kids a shot.

I think they were praying for Jabari. It seems God is not a mormon.

Dougie Fresh jumps up and goes here, plays with Burke, Hayward, Favors and Kanter.Worst case scenario is they give their bigs a shooter to space the floor for them.

Does nobody remember him playing against UNC in the tournament a couple years ago, or against Baylor last year? He’s not going to be nearly as effective against nba length and athletisizm. You want to talk about a gm getting fired over this draft? Take him at 5 or 7 and you can make a good argument for those firings. Like I’ve been saying, he’s a 3pt shooter at the next level and that’s about it. Forget the combine, look at those two games where he played against nba size.

McDermott has the worst defensive stats over a 4-year period that I have ever seen in my whole life. That’s not a coincidence…
