I’ve been following this guy a lot since I played against him in high school. I rank Dominic Artis as the second best player I’ve ever played against behind Daniel Gomis who later on played at Oak Hill Academy and missed the last two seasons at Oregon State due to an injury. I played against Artis when he played at Salesian which was where Jabari Bird also went but he then transferred to Findlay Prep his senior year where he played with Anthony Bennett, Brandon Ashley and Nigel Williams-Goss. He even outplayed NWG at Findlay Prep even though they would both be in running a dual PG offense most of the time. This guy may be very short for an NBA player at 6’1 but this guy just really knows how to play. He right away started at the PG spot at Oregon last year as a true freshmen and made an impact. Does anybody see any NBA Potential in him even as a four year player who gets drafted in the 2nd round?

Cool that you played against him and his senior year is far away. But I don’t see MBA potential. He’s undersized, very small. Fast but not a great vertical athlete. Hs a good passer but he doesn’t wow you with shooting and defensively his size really hurts him.

6’1 is alright for a PG, though, no? I mean Ty Lawson, Chris Paul, Raymond Felton, Kemba Walker, Brandon Jennings and Mike Conley are all 6’1 or shorter. Jeff Tegue and Tony Parker are 6’2.

It’s not like all the PGs are 6’4 or taller nowadays, but somehow 6’1 has become very short for prospects – Burke is considered short, Peyton Siva too.

I don’t know that much about Artis, have watched only a game or two and he wasn’t too impressive in them, I just wanted to bring up the “undersized” question.

He may be a little undersized but they have him on a nice program up there at Oregon. The kid has really changed his body and it shows in his game.

Quick and can hit contested j’s off the dribble. But he is small. I just googles him and the official ducks site and yahoo have Jim as 6-1. However his recruiting profiles from just 2012 from espn and scouthoops have him as 5-11. He doesn’t look to be a 6 footer watching live that’s for sure.

Both he and his starting backcourt mate dampen Dotson are solid players who started and put up 10 ppg as true freshman last year on a very solid top 25 Oregon squad. They should be fantastic going forward and lead that program to success over the next 3 seasons if they stay. But as for pro potential, just have to wait and see. Neither guy does anything that really catches your eye and makes you think star.

I played against him randomly in a pickup game before he left for Findlay. Great player, but I don’t think he has the athleticism to play in the NBA. The Dotson pg he shares time w/ is much more explosive IMO and has that elite quickness that smaller guards usually need to get by in the NBA.

I dig on Artis’s game, but I hope he hangs around Oregon for at least 3 full season and hopefully his senior year. Can drive to the hoop and play good man to man “D”. But he still needs to work on his mid-range shot. If he can get that mid-range going, he can play in the NBA.
