So it seems the New Jersey Nets did not get the man they wanted during the trade deadline, but they recieve a caliber SF in Gerald Wallace and without trading some valuable pieces in Marshon Brooks, Brook Lopez or even Kris Humphries in order to temporarily appease Deron Williams. Dwight Howard, who decides to opt-in his contract for another season, will be a free agent in the 2013 season. Another notable player who is in the free agency class is a player who demanded a trade from his team this year and a close friend of Dwight’s: Josh Smith. It’s quite feasable to think that these two would entice the idea of playing alonside one another and could make arguably one of the best defensive front courts in this era. So does Deron Williams, who is a free agent this season, patiently waits until the 2013 season when players like Dwight, Smith, etc. become available for the Nets to sign, or does he leave elsewhere to compete? Williams is an extremely competetive player and does not like to lose, so what does he do?

Deron Williams will sign with Dallas IMO. He has stated he wants to think about his family and why not go back to home and play with Dirk? He also wants to retire with the next team he signs with and I think Dallas will be his top choice.

I would think that the Nets should go for a trade for Dwight in the offseason involving picks, Wallace (who was one of the players the Magic wanted in a trade), Lopez, Brooks, and others and then try to sign Smith there in free agency because they should have the money to do so. Then all they’ll need is more depth and I think they’ll be fine.

dallas is aging fast and the key players they have are no longer hungry for championships which is evident this year, along with the shortend season. i understand dirk is an all-time great but the nets talent is starting to show. brooks, wallace, humphries a double double 2 years in a row, healthy lopez scores 20 with a solid bench of morrow, green, shelden williams, most likely houstons draft pick is a very solid team. give these guys the rest of the year to gel and come into next year with a full training camp and nets are a playoff team. lets not forget the marketing opportunities the move to brooklyn will provide.

I honestly hate the Wallace trade for NJ, because they are giving up a first round pick that is only top 3 protected. If that pick is the 4th or later, than hte Nets don’t get to keep the pick, and lose out on say a Jared Sulinger, or Jeremy Lamb, or a Perry Jones. I don’t think Wallace is enough to keep Deron, then again who knows. All I know is that this summer, had NJ still had their first round pick, and offered that unprotected, (let’s say it’s the 4th pick), Marshon Brooks, and Brook Lopez, along with an unprotected 2014 pick, for Dwight, Orlando may have budged, and Deron would have stayed. I see no reason for Deron to stay anymore, even if a Williams, Brooks, Wallace, Humphries, and a healthy Lopez is a pretty good lineup.

this is how i felt about this as well but when you tihnk about it…who is the other team he is considering going to? DALLAS…a team of 30+ veterans / aging stars. a draft pick would not entice williams to stay if the team in contetention for him is ful of veterans. he wants to win…you can’t blame the guy. but to me dallas’ ship has sailed and he’d be chasing it on roller skates if he goes there. wallace, albeit not the superstar dwight is, is a solid all-around player and former all-star himself. the nets because of this trade are better NOW because of this move. the one thing ill say about it is i feel they could’ve gotten more value for the pick, but king talks to deron and im sure he gave an okay to this. no body is going to base their entire future on a hypothetical, give the man something to consider for the remainder of the year and get his attention that way. this move the more i look at it had to be done.
