Doubt he would resign unless

Doubt he would resign unless they became really good. Who knows if he will really play for the wolves though. Even though he said he would now he always leaves an out when saying he would play for them

Probably not

I don't think Rubio will ever play for the Wolves, he's going to want to be in NY, NJ or one of the other big markets so he can be more marketable.

Naw as of 2010 i dont see any

Naw as of 2010 i dont see any potential of NYK's trying to trade for Rubio do to the contracts being released for free agency their rebuilding from not much and thier isnt enough pieces for T'wolves to take so if anything i could possibly see Indiana Pacers who is in dying need of a real pg Larry Bird been trying to trade T.J. Ford since he got there they have some nice Trade assets and they own the #10 pick so there is a possibility.....

Who knows what he will do

Who knows what he will do after his rookie deal. He could learn to like it here in MPLS, the Wolves could be good, etc. I think that if he ever wants to play in the NBA that he is going to have to start his career in a Wolves uniform. Kahn is in love with the dude and has no intentions of trading him. Going into the offseason he said that Rubio is the only untouchable on the Wolves roster and I don't think that is going to change come draft time.

Alot can change. The Wolves

Alot can change. The Wolves have cap space, young players, picks and pieces of varying degree's of value that other teams are/maybe interested in.

3 years ago the Celtics were awful. They have since won an NBA title and are going for a second. Things can change really quickly.

Rubio won't be there this season and when he finally does come over he will be Wolves property for atleast 4 seasons if the wolves so choose. Thats 5 years to build a contender and Rubio will still only have restricted free agency at that time. The wolves could match whatever deal Rubio recieves. One more year for unrestricted free agency. The wolves have a max time period of 6 years to convince Rubio to sign his first extension.

5-6 years in real time is a VERY long time. Knowing what a 19 year old will do at 24 is impossible. Think back 5 years of your own life...did you predict where you are now?

The only power Rubio has is if he threatens to stay oversea's and never play for the Wolves which he has not done. Kahn can keep Rubio's rights for as long as he wants. They could end up in this game of chicken but I truely believe Rubio couldn't care less. He will go to the wolves and if they build a winner during his rookie scale contract he will sign an extension.

Even if you don't believe Rubio would ever sign an extension... why would you trade one of the best PG prospects out there before you got to use him on a cheap rookie scale deal for atleast the first 3 seasons?

I would also argue that Rubio is a better player this season then he showed last season. He is progressing nicely and he was already pretty darn good. What is Rubio's trade value?

Someone on an earlier thread suggested trading Rubio's rights straight up for the 5th pick in this years draft... They argued a player like Monroe or Wesley at the 5th pick provides equal value and would make for a sensible trade between the wolves and kings.... Thats why this thread got started.

It all depends on Flynn and

It all depends on Flynn and his development if the Wolves are comfortable with the fact that he can be the PG and they can win games in the process then i see them trying to move Rubio. If however they don't see a future in Flynn they will play Rubio for the two years and two years only. I can see Rubio bolting from Minny as soon as his contract is up and trying to move to a larger market like the big East or West coast teams.

So Rubio is going to make the Wolves the Celtics???

Rubio will not even play there this year...next year is also in question....Why not get a top 5 pick for a guy that most good college guards would destroy...Do you think Rubio is untoucable...when he never played a NBA game and really doesn't have the desire to play in the NBA...(If he did He'd play here not for the minor Leagues) This thread was started to see how many people think Rubio will resign and even ever play 1 game for the Wolves...Anyone ever Hear of Jose Calderon...Wasn't he picked by the Grizzles and now he's gone...Rubio's a better prospect but why isn't he in Minny yet....He wants to play for Spain until a Big City Ball Club spends big bucks to try him out for 3years Max and then Ricky's back in Spain where he's like MJ or Lebron....Let him Go...Get a top 5 pick...Give him to the Kings for the 5th Overall...and move on...This Move will get Kaun Fired....Drafting a player top 5 and having him never suit up for your team while telling the world " Wait a year, I promise He'll be here"....Yeah right...How long does that have before owners say..We could have had a real franchise Point Guard in Jennings...Who was by far a better player but Wiff......Kaun swings and misses...

Rubio has yet to sign with the Wolves so it's a little soon to ask if he would resign with them.

Teams need more than one good player at every postion if they are to compete. It's the teams that are strong up and down the roster that win. It's nice to have a strong top 5 players.... but they typicall play 30-38 minutes a game. Many games are lost in other 10-18 min. of game time.

That's why you asked.... but now what you asked. Rubio is still just a young kid. It doesn't hurt to have him develope on another team oversea while they put a roster together that is worthy to play with Rubio. In fact it helps not having Rubio in that the Wolves aren't stuck in 30-35 win range. Those are the teams that are really stuck. At least the Wolves can draft a solid player while teams like the Pacers have to settle for roll players in the draft and projects.

You don't have to be a star to be included as depth on a roster.

What?

Scarecrow, now you are really reaching. We're discussing the Pacers and Wolves at this moment. Neither is the Lakers. The Lakers are looking to win consecutive title while the other 2 would like a good draftpick.

Obviously Rubio is not on the Wolves roster. He's still an asset. Rubio has never said that he doesn't want to play for the Wolves.... he stated he didn't want to play for a bad team. The Wolves won't be bad after next season with the expected changes, and then Rubio will be in Minnesota.

Rubio

Play for the Wolves ever?

Yes, next year I expect he'll buy out of this current contract and come to the NBA as a Timberwolf.

Resign with the Wolves?

Hard to say as it's a long way out. If he's successful it could happen. If he's a bust no. If he's a superstar then I'd expect him to move to a larger market when FA eligible.

How many years has Lebron stayed in Cleveland? Any team that can compete for a championship can keep their players..... whether it be Cleveland, New Jersey, Sacramento or MN. As long as the players can make money and feel that they can compete they will stick around.

ScaRecrow, rubio as a guy

ScaRecrow, rubio as a guy that most college guards would destroy? Really?

Are we talking about the kid that cp3, j Kidd, and d will couldn't destroy as a 17 year old. The same kid that held his own with 3 of the top guards in the world and the 2 best NBA point guards currently?

I think so.

Don't hate on the kid because he's a euro. The kid can play and he would destroy most college guards.

BJ would destroy ricky today....so would Lawson...Holiday...

The Olympics was a brief look type of thing...If you really think Ricky would hang with those guys in 7 game series and 82 game seasons your reaching...I'm not under valuing the guy...I've only purposed trading Him for the 5th pick(Kings) and Granger(Pacers) That Granger deal included sending the 16th and 23rd pick as well...3 rookies..1 of which will still be in Europe...for Granger...And I'm getting killed for it...
