Does Anyone Hate This As Much As I Do????

the type of person I am, I am a realist. I am not a B.S.er.

I absolutely hate the fact that today players have to put on this facade about their pro intentions. The amateur sports have become too business like and political now. Its crazy. Like why do these guys have to drag out these press conferences knowing damn well they arent returning?

This is me personally, I am not the type of person to get into a bunch of b.s. I am straight up. If a commentator asked me if I was going to leave or stay, I would at the very least say what I already know to be true.....and that is, if I am a lock for a top 5 pick (or whatever your standard is) then I wont be back. You've got players like Davis, who knows he will be #1...but even if he wasnt, you think he drops 1 spot...maybe 2 at the most??? Even if someone told Davis you have a chance to fall to #3, he still wouldnt come back.

Evan Turner was asked would he return to play with Sullinger and make a run at the title because they could have an even better team. He was guaranteed to be the #2 pick basically. You know what he said of course. The usual. "I am considering it, talking to my family, and we would be really good next year, I havent made my decision, blah, blah, blah."

It didnt used to be like that. Guys would tell you, I am only here for one year or two year or if I win the title, I am gone, etc....I remember when a commentator would ask a guy after his last game of the season..."is it safe to say you wont return?" the player even though indefinite, would say "probably not" or "this likely is my last game".

Now, why even ask a player before he has set up his press conference. Top 5 picks putting on facades acting as if this is the toughest decision they ever have to make....turn down being a top 5 pick to come back and risk injury.

The NBA on the other hand warns teams about announcing who they are going to use their #1 pick on. David Stern got in Mike Dunleavy's azz because he was telling people the Clippers were going to select Blake Griffin #1 overall. Stern said it takes the "suspense" out of it for the fans. What fans? Nobody wants to hear that garbage.

The NFL doesnt care about suspense that much because Matt Stafford agreed to contract terms with the Lions a day before the NFL Draft.

I guess through all my ranting, I am also asking the question....in college hoops, what purpose does it serve to take the full alloted amount of time to announce you are declaring when its obvious you will? Even if you havent found the right agent, you dont have to wait around for that just to let the public know your intentions.

Not sure why you guys are

Not sure why you guys are saying top 2 picks. He is 100% the #1 pick in the draft.

Well they usually get asked

Well they usually get asked before the season is done and it's disrespectful to say "I'm out" with games left to be played. After the season is over then it serves no purpose for them to deny it.

"Not sure why you guys are saying top 2 picks. He is 100% the #1 pick in the draft."

It doesnt matter. If you say he is 100% no doubt, guaranteed #1, then that reinforces the point of my post. Why all the nonsensical delay???

Y2G - I understand that it is disrespectful when you are still in the season, and can be viewed as a distraction, but really, thats for media purposes. Part of the illusion and perception that the media forces on us. You dont think by mid-way of the year that the UK players and Coaches didnt know Davis would be gone?

Once Robinson played his way into the top 10 it was a wrap from that moment on.

There are exceptions to every draft and I know Drummond didnt have the most stellar year and UConn is going on probation. I am talking on a general scale.

My point is, Davis' mind is made up. Just like Evan Turner's was. When he was on Kimmel the other night, he wouldnt commit to saying he was leaving. So let me ask, does anyone here for one second believe that he is coming back???

Also, that decision needs to come soon too so the undecided HS players can make their moves.

LOL

its all part of this new age of marketing and perception. something else unrelated that always makes me laugh...is when NBA players demand trades behind closed doors and then go on record and say "I didnt say I wanted to leave...my heart is still here". Do you guys think Melo wanted to stay in Denver? It has been debated that CP3 never asked to be traded from N.O. That may be true, that does not mean he didnt want to be traded. These stories arent just made up. CP3 tells a buddy he wants out, that buddy puts it over the wire, the media asks CP3 is it true, CP3 denies it. Same as if Ainge says, "we are not trying to trade Rondo, I dont know where these rumors come from" meanwhile that joker is in all types of meetings and conference calls trying to unload Rondo. Plausible Deniability.

Its a matter of semantics as well. Ainge later came back and said they were not shopping Rondo, but they were "listening" to offers and those are two different things.

The rumors that CP3 wanted to be traded, or Ainge was trying to dump Rondo were not baseless. When they come out and say they have no knowledge of the rumors or how they couldve started, thats just simple plausible deniability. The fact is, if a player doesnt want to leave a team....he wont, and if a GM doesnt want to trade a player he wont.

On the signing special last

On the signing special last night they said that Anthony Davis and MKG are leaving, but I havent seen anything official on this. I mean, I know they arent coming back, but like I said, what is the holdup on the declarations? They talked as if they were sure the only real undecided was Teague.
