Do you think dallas will be good this year(playoff team)
they will be 4th at best in the West. They cannot handle San Antonio, La Lakers and The Hornets. Other teams like Portland, Denver and Utah are still trouble for them. They could make it to the 2nd round but thats about it.
If they get Marion then things could change now that they have an Identity. Before it would seem they did not know who they wanted to be but signing Kidd to a long contract give them that stability. Marion would help them on boards and D and Howard should be healthy. They could be the 4 or 5 seed but in the west seeding mean nothing. It is all about match ups because team are too close in talent.
The Mavericks could have been the 4th or 5th seed if they didn't have that horrible 2-7 start for the season. I believe most of those were home games as well.
But I agree with you that they will land somewhere between 6-8. I would think they have a better shot of being the 6th seed than being the 8th seed.
Sheltwon said it best, its going to come down to matchups, like it always does in the NBA playoffs.
Adding Marion and Gortat will be big. They also will benefit from JHoward being healthy. They are right in the middle of the pack battling with Jazz, Nuggets, Hornets, and Blazers. The Lakers and Surs will probably be too good.
Dallas is going to pretty good now, especially if they can resign Bass. I don't see them winning it all but they are a real threat to make it to the Western Conference finals.
PG-Kidd/Barea
SG-Howard/Terry
SF-Marion/Howard
PF-Dirk/Bass
C-Gortat/Dampier
I think with that lineup Dallas would be the 4th or 5th seed.
They are a fringe playoff team. Kidd isn't getting any better and neither are the Mavs chances to win, even if they get an underrated player like Marion. They are very lucky Houston is in a mess because than they would have a very hard time making the playoffs if Houston was at full strength. My playoff teams are as follows
1.Lakers
2.Spurs
3.Nuggets
4.Utah
5.Portland
6.New Orleans
7.Dallas
8.Golden State(really doesn't matter no other teams except the Rockets at full strength can even compete)
The Mavs have invested in Kidd too much and Tony Parker would run circles around him in the first round of the playoffs. Marion would guard Jefferson, who is arguably the fourth option on this team and Josh Howard would get frustrated on defense by guarding Ginobli and Roger Mason Jr. This would be a much different story if the Mavs had have kept Devin Harris the tempo he plays is more suited for the Mavericks and player like Jason Terry and Shawn Marion would flourish with a quick pg like Harris running the show.

so far they have resign kidd, sign gortat, traded for marion, also pickup ross from memphis. so i wonder is this enough for them to be better next season. and also what would be the lineup next season.
