In my opinion, the biggest difference between college and the NBA is the scoring ability of the players.  In college, it seems as though players are much more reliant on running good offensive sets to get points.  In the NBA, it seems as though you could just give the ball to your best player to get points.

I personally like CBB more because defense is allowed to be played. The NBA can be hard to watch at times with all the BS fouls that drag on the game.

"Is it just me or those John Wall don’t get enough respect from the referees. Because he always attack the rim and draws contact and he don’t get a foul call. He currently average just under 5 free throw attempts per game. It seems like he’s the type of player that would be living at the foul line like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant. It’s been weird to me that he don’t get calls that most players get that attack the basket as frequently as he does."-casey38ray

That’s would likely have to do with the fact that damn near every nba player wast at least a top three player on their own team in college (& most guys were the top dogs). Plain and simple the talent & skill level of the competition is just better. You could almost say the same thing about the differential from High School/ Prep ball to College Hoops.

in college you still get those plays where the defender does everything right and the shot still goes in, but is much less frequent. In the NBA people nail shots with hands in their face like every other possesion. I personally like seeing good defense being rewarded, even if it does lower the total score of the game.

In the NBA teams run offenses and set plays for the sole purpose of getting the ball to a certian player at a certain spot on the floor, then that player has to go to work on his defender. In college you run offenses to get open shots and when done right, the college player won’t have a defender to beat because he gets open.

With the handcheck rules (which I am ok with) and offensive players diving into defender to get a call (I’m not ok with it, that always looks cheap even if it is effective) defenders in the NBA are helpless against the high level of skill.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Also, people fail to realize how much of a difference the NBA three point line creates so much more space for players to operate.  That, added to everything that you just pointed out, makes playing defense in the NBA incredibly difficult.  So difficult that to the mere viewer, it looks like there is much less defense being played than in college ball.  NBA players are out there on an island trying to guard some of the most gifted athletes in the world… they know when theyre beat, and yes sometimes guys give up on plays, and the whole game is expanded so it makes the defender look even worse when he gets beat and/or gives up on a play.  Not to say that there might be a slight drop off in defensive intensity, but that can easily be chalked up to the, also drawn out, 82 game regular season.

Within the intensity of NCAA tradition, the committee desperately needs to reward the scorer with continuation. The heat of the battle needs to be rewarded through those hard-fought out plays with the way defense is played at a high level of aggression.

Clearly there’s less quality in CBB, so teams depend more on their offensive halfcourt sets to get it done. However, defense makes a lot of difference in my opinion. There isn’t 3 seconds in the paint defensively; that causes teams to clog the paint and not allow easy drives. This is what doesn’t allow NBA teams to run zone defenses 100% of the time. It’s just not effective.

NBA offenses predicate drawing big men off the paint with pick and roll actions and then attacking the paint when rim protectors are off position. This opens passing lanes if defenders don’t rotate. I believe the fact that players drive more is why the NBA could be more fun to watch.

As a european, there are only two things that make me watch the NCAA:the atmosphere of the games, and the prospects. But seriously,BS fouls at the nba level?????? How many free throws do you see at the NCAA level with those stupid and unfair 1+1 that slows the game down like hell? The skill level is also just not good, how many games do you see where it looks like no player on the floor can actually shoot?
“nba teams run offense with the sole purpose of getting the best player the ball”:Two things: first that’s not how the best teams play,Atlanta is killing everyone by playing like a team. Secondly:How many possessions do you see at the NCAA level where about 3 players don’t even touch the ball on 35 DAMN seconds possession? Sorry,I get people who like NCAA basketball, and I watch it as well, but don’t tell me the actual game is better . the atmosphere maybe,it’s fun to watch and all,but in terms of skill, everytime I see an NCAA game,I don’t wonder why rookies need time to adjust to the nba level.
