do people realize alot of these rookies wont start in the beginning?
the ones who will are blake, harden, curry terrance williams,...and everyone else is a maybe....i thought evans but sac is said to be bringing him off the bench in the beginning...i guess some peopel on here arent realizing how big of a step it is to go from college to starting in the nba esspecially if you arent a big difference maker like blake.....now as far as near or after the all star break who do you think will step up and take a starting spot......i think ill take a strictly defensive take on this one to keep it interesting
rooks i think will start are DeRozan,Griffin, Harden, and Rubio if he stays
right now over Telfair, unless he plays the 2 and Kahn said" Rubio will be our starting point guard from the moment he walks in our doors" and he really loves Rubio
rubio will never play 4 the twovles
Rubio just signed a 2 year deal with Spain....he is not coming over this year.....
i thought he jsut decided to stay not sign a 2 yr deal? aka decided to stay for last 2 yrs of his existing contract...
so friggin mad right now but anyways i said IF he comes over this year he will start
I have never really thought about who is going to start right away , thank you very much for bringing this up.
I hope Jennings will be traded away from the Bucks and blossoms somewhere else because i don't think a guy with this much potential will be good on that team with Scott Skiles system that doesn't really allow players to play freely.... This might be a little out there but i don't think Rose would have been the ROY if Scott still would be the Bulls coach.
Back to the Topic
I don't think Jennings will start same goes for most of the 1st round picks except for Flynn , DeRozan ,Psycho T , Henderson, Clark , Curry , Hill and T-Will
rubio would come off the bench because he just isnt ready..unless the trade flynn and telfair..telfair will start in the beginning even though potenial hes not better then flyn but right now hes just more ready...same with derozen the raptors already have let it be known they are bringing derozen off the bench hes just not ready to be a starter yet ...and rubio is staying in europe
This season, probably Griffin, Harden, Evans could, Flynn will eventually, Curry, Hill could later in the season, T-Will could, Psycho-T might, Earl Clark could, I honestly believe Jennings has a shot. That is quite a few, DeRozan has a shot but could get minutes off the bench in his first season. Right now, Ellington has an outside shot on the T-Wolves, as they have no one that can shoot the ball. But yes, a lot of these rookies will be reserves, and they will not even come close to the contributions last years rooks put up. I also think many of these rookies were drafted by teams that put them in difficult situations to succeed. The two in the best situations are definitely Curry and Harden, who should battle for Rookie of the Year. I like Stephen Curry's odds of winning it.
the thing with curry tho is that even tho GSW loves him... nellie is so dang crazy with his lineups curry mite b shuffled in n out a lot... plus curry has always, his whole life sicne HS, been focal point and pretty much only threat in offense... wonder how he will do in less minutes/ havin other options n not bein main threat? im not saying he's a selfish player n technically he should benefit... BUT i still think he mite take some time to find his niche in GS
Nope, he signed a 2 year deal...
also, I do not see Curry Starting...
u sure u rnt getting his "signing" confused with this http://www.seattlepi.com/scorecard/nbanews.asp?articleID=260831 ?
all he is doing his honoring his contract rather than buying it out... lol semantics i kno but u see rubio would b gettin a bunch MORE crap if he was actually CHOOSING not to sign with twolves rather than just not coming over n honoring his existing contract
he is finishing his contract with DKV
lol thats what i was sayin bout rubio honorin his contract..
but newho.. i defnitely agree that derozan wont/cant start... i mean his game is WAY too raw... for soem reaosn i always think of gerald green whenev i se ehim play... a ROOKIE gerald green lol which is even worse...
ummm would love to see earl clark play in PHO but right now i see his RY bein too comparable to like jason thompson's... or anthony randolphs... god forbid brandon wrights.. lol
n i believe jennings could succeed in a scott skiles system... i mean y'all hopefully rememebr that the man was a decent PG himself? lol completely diff. style i kno BUT jennings would benefit from some discipline in his game... PLUS u cna always b flashy n show ur flair on fastbreaks lol
Honestly... Other than Griffin, I'm unsure. I mean, Harden has the next closest chance, but it's not like Thabo Sefolosha can't play. Curry has a chance, but that'd be a small ass backcourt... Plus he'll have a lot of competition... Kelenna Azubuike & Anthony Morrow especially. T-Will will also have a lot of competition, especially considering they now have C. Lee.
I'd throw Jonny Flynn's name out there to eventually start, because it's not like Bassy has the spot held down. I think Jordan Hill will have a legit chance to start, especially if David Lee doesn't return... Maybe not from day one, but eventually. DeMar DeRozan ONLY because by signing Turk, Toronto had to renounce the rights of Shawn Marion, Anthony Parker & Carlos Delfino.
henderson is comming off the bench..yeah with nelson you never know but they way hes talking about not trading curry you would think hes gonna start him on top of curry also proving people wrong with his ability....i dont see hill starting unless lee is traded since lee nor harrington is comming off the bench......i was alot like most peopel who thought every year because a rookie went first round or lotto they were gonna start but then i started to look at the players who was on the team who played the same position..though not starts they were pretty good...a good case would be parker for the raptors..hes not a star but very solid who doesnt make many mistakes and gets you 11pts 4ast and 40percent from three...now lets say derozen can get you the points..he will also give you more turnovers worst defense and lower percentage shooting because he will be getting used to the speed and mental aspects of playing in the nba....most of the times the rookies are brought in for the future because they wont dominate or contribute alot now...pretty much they could possible put up the numbers that the normal starter does but with added turnovers worst defense and/or a worst shooter and thats why most dont start till there second year or midseason unless the team is just in a position where they will be in the lotto next uyear anyway in which case they throw the rookie out there in the beginning or later on in the season once they grasp the game a lil more
so who comes off the bench if hill starts?...harrington is starting chandler is starting and hill isnt a center
so who comes off the bench if hill starts?...harrington is starting chandler is starting and hill isnt a center
I though Parker was a FA?
thats a very good point about gs..with okc i think harden chances are good because of what he can do that the others at his position cant right now and how his game is alot more ready for the nba then just about everyother rookie ...to be honest he may have a easier time then griffin at first considering its alot harder for big men to get used to the nba then the other positions other than pg..is that saying he is or will be better then blake..no...im just seeing alot more players blake has to deal with ..gasol,odom.zach,amare,jefferson,duncan,dirk,kenyon martin, boozer, lamarcus, david west...those are just the west..thats tough even for a rookie as talented as blake....as far as hansoro..i wont put it out of the relm of possibilty that he doesnt start because of how hard he works and the lack of hard working big men on the pacers
i thnk he is but raps said they will resign him ...but i just remebered he does have offers from some european clubs as well
they will have to go over the lux tax...but ok
Things that do not make any basketball sense whatsoever are Nellies specialty. I am sure he figures Ellis and Curry will cause enough teams match-up problems that he does not need to worry about their defense. They will get buckets, give up quite a few as well. In this crazy system, Azabuike and Morrow may indeed play the 3rd guard and maybe even see Corey Magette hold the 4 sometimes. I mean, Baron Davis, Mikeal Pietrus, Al Harrington, S-Jax, Matt Barnes, Monta Ellis and Biedrins, were pretty much Golden State's rotation when they beat the Mavs. They did not draft Curry to be a back-up, and as well as Morrow and Azubuike have played being undrafted, they are not Stephen Curry when it comes to be straight up basketball players (and yes, I know Morrow shot like 100-101 3's with his left hand or whatever, he is still not Curry). Griffin may not even start immediately, though Camby or Kaman will surely get hurt which will give him a lot of PT. Harden will likely start over Thabo, he just fits in so perfectly and can create offense at a greater rate, though Thabo is a nice 6th man at the wing. DeMar might start with the signing of Hedo, but I would not be surprised to see the Raptors still look for a 2 guard and groom DeMar slowly. DeMar is very raw and if he were forced to start, it would be a bad situation for this Raps squad, which is not at all far removed from being a possible play-off team. T-Will would likely start at 3, as I do see Courtney Lee as the definite starter at SG. Bobby Simmons is still very likely to start though.
Rubio will smartly play a couple more years for DKV as his buyout goes from ^ million to zero at the end of 2011 I believe. I am sure he will start, and maybe even join a different team, once he comes to the NBA. If he started next season, I would not be surprised if Jonny Flynn put up better numbers even if he had to come in off the bench. It is funny, because people were predicting stats like mad before the draft, but after I have not really seen any.
lol...that is tru alot of people were putting up crazy stats...i guess now they came back to reality...yea derozen is wayyy to raw at this point as far as griffin clippers will start him at the 4 ..they already stated camby's comming off the bench and kahman will start at center..not sure how many touches blake will get with davis gordan kahman and thortan though to be honest i doubt he will get rookie of the year because of that...hopefully rubio will be more prepared when he comes over because this year would have been a rude awakening for him
should start at sg, as long as he beats out either Douby and Ukic ... He'll start. Collangello wants to get him minutes, and you have to guess that with Hedo, and Calderon feeding him in the open lanes (created by teams smothering Bosh and Bargniani), there will be jetstreams and full on open air assaults on teams entering the ACC.
Others: Griffin (#1 pick), Evans (Might be played at pg, sg or sf depending where the Kings want his skills), Flynn (Rubio will be overseas a few years, and they have a big need for a leader on the outside), Blair (the guy is ready, and the Spurs need a pf/c depending where they play Duncan). There will be others as current starters get hurt/drop off, and prospects develop.
he has to do more then just stream through open lanes..people wonder why certain players with athletic ability dont start (gerled green who derozen plays alot like) its the lil things that causes them to come off the bench and derozen lacks alot of thoses on top of being very very raw offensivly..comming off the bench would be best for him till he leanrs more and gets better ..esspecially from the definsive stand point.....if eveans is played at the sg position then he must be comming off the bench because kevin martin is a lock at the 2 and doesnt play the pg nor the sf
Good point. As you will notice, I am a Raps fan, and follow the team. They also see Derozan playing D on the other team's best 2/3, because Hedo won't. Word across Canada is that he is can become a strong defender. He has to be better than the other options currently on the roster. Also, barring additional moves the Raps roster will be full of players with minimum contracts. They also want athleticism for the break, and that is what he brings now.
The kings could put Martin at the 3 and play Evans at the 2 (and develop him to become a pg). Evans has a good game for a 2 (ball handling and passing), and Martin's shooting shot creating could be used as well at the 3. That team has a lot of holes, and they will find a way to get him on the floor lots.
I believe that harden will be like russell westbrook. He will play behind Thabo to begin with and then end up starting. I obviously think that Griffin will start, Curry will eventually, Thabeet won't. DeRozen i think will come off the bench the whole season, Evans will start, I actually think that Flynn is going to start at the one and yes i know this is a shocker, that Ellington will start at the 2 for the Wolves. I mean I don't see anyone else there. Look at that lineup with Flynn, Ellington, Brewer, Love, and Jefferson.. IMO that's a good starting 5. T-Will will start, Earl Clark will come off the bench, with Brandon Jennings, it matters what happens with Ramon Sessions. If he comes back to the Bucks, then Jennings will be on the Bench, if he doesn't, then I believe he can start over Ridnour. Hansbrough will start probably at the all star break, with Jordan Hill, it matters what happens to Harrington and Lee. With Teague, it matters about Bibby. I mean there are a lot of rookies that could potentially be starters, it just matters how free agency goes.
martian cant play the three..hes 6'5 very skinny and not very strong and lacks tough defense..what 3's do you think he can check?..obviously the kings dont think so either hence why they said they want him to be there future point and are considering brining him off the bench till he learns..as far as derozen...im sure youve watched nba basketball for a while and seen rookies not start over players who there are physically more talented than till they learn the nba game..derozen isnt so talented where he can start over a nba vet with zero problems eventually yes..potenially yes but right now he doesnt have the defense to check nba caliber sg....he may start if they dont resign parker but he will get lite up constantantly while he adjusts and not produce much offensively like in the beginning of his college career....these sg that start or even backups are awhole lot better then the pac 10 sg/sf...alot of rookies wont start..alot more then will reguardless of freeagency..teauge would come off the bench even if bibby was there because in no way shape or fourm is he better then flip murray right now..corey brewer hasnt proved yet that he can even play in the nba so i doubt he starts he looks very very bad out there..some of ya'll look at just the starters that these rookies have to compete with and dont take into account these backups...writing off most of them such as flip murray is a very very bad idea
Martin probably can't guard the 3. He can score on 3s though, and Evans can guard 3s. Think Evans as a 2 on offence, and checks the 3s on D (he's got long arms, and weighs in at around 220).
Derozan is definately not polished, but the Raps will want to give him some quality minutes every game, and he will be surrounded by verterans, so it would be best for him to be in the starting 5, even if he does not close games.
these rookies are not better right now then alot of the guys who come off the bench..right now gortat and bass comes off the bench..they are better then clark and hansboro..then u factor in the adjustment of playing in the nba compared to college...could they start further along in the season yea...but not from the start of the season
but Larry Bird compared Hansbrough to Dave Cowens...so Bird is high on him..... dont you think we will start?
Derozan Will Start Most Defintley Well it looks like it right noe......They only have one SG ( Derozan) And one SF ( Turkouklou)......so Derozan will start, but if they sign someone that can start, derozan will be seeing 6th man......but i think he will be playing like jamario moon role and Being there Densive Stopper and guarding the other teams best player, here the rookies i think will start
Derozan , Griffin, Terence Williams, Harden .........A Week or Two You Might See More Rookies Start, or atleast see if they can start
Knicksboy, He has the skills and experience to get a shot at starting, but what will the 4/5 positions of the Pacers look like?
Hansbrough/Murphy (who brings the shot blocking/protects the paint)
Hansbrough/Hibbert (Will they put Murphy on the bench)
Not to say that it will not happen, but his "team player" approach to the game might make it easier for the coaching staff to have him on the bench to start with. Honestly though, in the long run Hansbrough, could be really good player, and he is one of the rookies most ready to start.
Could be high on him, but that does not mean he starts. Larry is not the coach, and he was also high on Austin Croshere and Shawne Williams, who were not the answer. He did draft Granger, which was a great pick, but Psycho-T is no Granger. Dave Cowens was a hustler and a great player, who deservedly won an MVP and won a few rings as the catalyst of a team. If Psycho-T plays up to Cowens ability, I would be totally shocked and just because Bird sees some Cowens in Tyler, by no means does that mean Psycho-T will be Dave Cowens. Cowens also played 5 in a time where centers did not have to be huge, and against athletes that are not seen in the current NBA. I would be very surprised if Psycho-T starts, particularily since they were using the Hibbert-Murphy-Granger front court to fair success. A Murphy and Pscyho-T front court would not bode well as far as defense in Indiana, it would be even worse than Love-Jefferson. Also, DeRozan would start most likely if the Raps kept their current squad intact, which is something they will not do, hence DeRozan coming off the bench in his first year.
wait wait wait..derozen guarding the teams best palyer...you cant be serious..for one he isnt a great defender yet..then on top of that a rookie guarding the teams best defender is just asking to get lit up which is what would happen which would just crush his confidence...i mean come on,..seriously..and its nice that you WANT that to be the line up in sac but sac doesnt want that to be the line up so chances are it wont..they have stated martin is there 2 and f.garcia is there 3..yall do remeber him right..good d..13pts a game...
if parker stays derozen doesnt start
The Raps will have to re-write the collective barganing agreement for David stern for Parker to stay for multiple reasons:
1) The Raps cannot sign him for anything more than the minimum.
2) He will not sign for the minimum.
3) He has serious interest from at least one serious contendor (Cleveland)
4) Other teams want him
5) he can hear the Euro calling ...
but you said the same thing about Curry....
That Don Nelson loves doing crazy things like starting a small backcourt that plays no defense. Plus, at least Monta and Curry have the skill set to possibly outscore the people they guard. If Jim O'Brien wants to play like Nellie, he'll do it. If he plays like his own coach, he will not.
I am so sick of people projecting these rookies' stats and giving them ridiculous numbers. They are not going to get 35 minutes per game!!!
