IlladelphParticipantI just read this article about a totally unscientific poll of a bunch of coaching/FO types about who the dirtiest player in the NBA is. Turns out Delly is the clear cut winner by a big margin. But if that was not surpising to the avid NBA fan, what did surprise me is that the top 3 dirtiest players are Australian/NZers. That’s interesting. Wondering if anyone who knows Australian ball can comment. Is this a style thing with Australians, or is this a total coincidence.
Delly is a dirty player but I forgot some of his great moments on the hardwood… like when he literally got his ass kicked by Taj Gibson. On the replay, you can see Delly "leg locking" Gibson. Totally deserved the kick in the ass imho, but the refs didn’t see it that way… lol.

JordanC20ParticipantJust a matter of time before Justise Winslow is added to the list he got away with a lot of dirty plays while at Duke

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI think it’s somewhat interesting that 3 of the best 4 teams in the league have someone high on that list. Delly for Cleveland, Bogut for GS and Adams for OKC with a few votes for Ibaka too. I’m also reminded that Manu used to have a bit of a reputation for playing dirty and flopping too.
Maybe the best teams need somebody to play with an edge like that? Maybe there are dirty players on every team in the league but the other players around the league tend to feel sour more towards those players that not only play dirty but also tend to always come away with a win too?

Hype MachineIts a race thing…African American players never feature on these ‘most dirty’ lists.
You’ve got to be a str8 thug (Matt Barnes)…just to crack the top 5…and he’s mixed ethnicity.
These lists have been full of white guys and foreigners since they were first made.
John Stockton, Bill Lambeer, Christian Laettner, Steve Nash, Ginobli…now Delly.
Other Race-Related Polls include:
The ‘Kevin Love White Guy Award". Perennial winner of the player voted by Execs to have done the most with the least natural ability. K-Love himself came up with that title.
The ‘Most hated athlete’ List is only ever black players. Features guys like Kobe, Lebron, Tiger Woods etc.
Check any of these polls out for yourself…you’ll see what I mean.

SubZeroParticipantOh I love that we have Steven Adams on our team. I’ve never seen him take a cheap shot at anyone, so to me he’s not dirty but knows how to piss people off. I’m reminded of when we were playing the Grizzlies in the playoffs, and Adams got Z-Bo ejected and we ended up winning when the game wasn’t looking good. I don’t think every team needs a guy like that to win, but it doesn’t hurt as long as they’re doing their work in the right capacity

Magic JordanParticipantWade is definitely getting the super star treatment here. He is by far the dirtiest in my eyes. Taking a cheap shot and breaking the nose of an all timer in an ALL STAR GAME???
I wish we could count the amount of groins he has gotten away with kicking in the paint on his floaters.
Delly gets a bad rep from the playoffs last year. In my eyes he plays tough, not dirty.

The GoatParticipantI think AUS & NZ players just value playing hard. They are taught to go after every loose ball, not to give away layups, to fight if you need to fight. Go hard or go home. The arent dirty they are just doing what they need to do. Theyd have a hard time showing their faces at home if they didnt play like this.
The best example I can give you comes from one of our football codes in Australia.
Australian Rules Football (AFL) is the aerial ping pong you’ve probably seen, itd be the most popular game nationwide but not so much in Sydney or on the east coast. Rugby is the 15-a-side game the US are familiar with, the game with NZs All Blacks.
Rugby League is a different sport, a 13 a side game, the game Jarryd Hayne of the 49ers roster played.
Id suggest searching State of Origin.
State of Origin is like an annual 3 game All Star series, but its probably the most competitive level if football we have. Review some games or highlights online, especially some games from the 80s and 90s. Many started or ended in all in brawls. Some of the hits are ridiculous, and stories of playing hard are folklore.
In a game in 2003, Michael Devere split his head open and stayed on the field in the defensive line with the trainer trying to close the wound. Someone on the other team came his way, so he wentbstraight back in to tackle and join his position while the staple gun was still attached to his head.
This typifies the attitude. You just go and do what needs to be done if you are out there representing yourself and your team.

RUDEBOY_Participanti dont think delly is a dirty player at all.he’s just very aggressive. thats the way the game was played back in the day.before they change the rules to increase scoring,by allowing offensive players more freedom .

raybeasParticipantall make the list as long as they are still in the league. I’d have Matt Barnes and Delly round out the Top 5.
Imagine all the crotch-punching and elbow-throwing “tricks” the young T-Wolves are learning from KG and Miller.

DolanCareParticipantSteven Adams isn’t dirty, he’s just annoying. He’ll stick out his ass as a pick or lean on his defensive assignment as if he was exhausted, but that’s not ‘dirty’ in my books. Dirty means he does things that could hurt the opposing team.
