sixersman111ParticipantIs obviously becoming a problem for the cavs. He refuses to believe that he isnt the man and now its being reported that he skipped national anthem for religious reasons. I find it funny that he is only skipping the national anthem after he got kicked out of the starting lineup. Want to see everyone’s stance on whats going on with him. I feel its only going to be harder for them to get value for him because he seems to be headache but thats just my view.

ExumInfernoParticipantHe is the worst type of player to have on the court with LeBron. He isn’t accurate from outside, isn’t a great defender and isn’t a passer. LeBron has Love at power forward which is perfect, and the Thompson and Varejao rotation at center is solid and is better than Haslem and Joel Anthony he used to have with Miami. The guard spots are the concern but Irving should find his spot as option 3 soon. That leaves Waiters who was sent out of the starting lineup and now the Cavs need to trade him to avoid him causing problems. When he ignores LeBron and takes bad shots it really causes the Cavs to lose momentum and focus.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI’ve been critical of Waiters for a while. First I can’t believe he got drafted so high. The Cavs could’ve had Harrison Barnes. Barnes is a good player, not a superstar, but he is a high character guy, basically the opposite of Waiters. What killed me was Waiters saying he and Irving were better than Wall and Beal. He’s just the ultimate anti team guy and his stunt with the national anthem just confirms he’s a first class jerk.

nill650ParticipantFrom a Clevelanders perspective, I have been and will continue to be accused of drinking the kool-aid . But no one who says waiters is a anti team guy can really back up the argument , without at least acknowledging the scoring ability is as a 6th man.
When I look at the selfishness of Irving and his unwillingness to give up the ball I see the clutch crunchtime finisher but also the biggest anti-team player. Irving is the real team killer, and on a team with that much offense… its just stupid.
Neither Irving nor Waiters are true point guards nor have they ever had the court vision necessary to be one,nor do they have the skillset required to defend outside of cuse zone in waiters case or be expected to fit right into the princeton based ball movement without some time for either.
These two guards are Byron Scotts picks.
Neither make that last pass ,heck sometimes the first pass /not used to haveing anyone else capable of making a higher %.these are just bad habits.
Waiters is fully capable of doing what it takes as a team player to win and far more willing to do it than Irving. Both remain under srutiny for trying to "get his" when noone else’s shot is falling either.
They should consider trading Waiters though for a rim protector,as although varejao is a stout defender,he is not a rim protector.
This is the biggest weakness besides perimeter defense that the Cavs have. besides selfish guard play.

DukeDaSquadParticipantI dont think that Waiters skipping the National Anthem is that big of a deal. I don’t know much about the muslim religion but i read on a site earlier that it is common for muslims to pray 5 times a day. It is unusual though that it happenned during the national anthem because im sure that there are many other muslims in the nba that dont let their prayers interfere with pre tip off events. People were making it seem like he hates America for doing that.

llperezi read where he says he has no problem standing for the anthem and it was just one game and he will be standing from here on out. I dont view the anthem as being religious oriented, its about respecting america. I know the lyrics in their entirety do include a line about god, but that part of the song isnt recited at sporting events. With that said, he should show respect to the country and stand. Numerous muslims including hakeem olajuwon said their is nothing about the muslim religion that would be against standing for a countries national anthem.

Shaquille OatmealParticipantWell, Francis Scott Key was a slave owner and known racist…
The American flag and U.S. national anthem are symbols of oppression for many people. Why can’t we enjoy a baasketball game in peace without having to practice these rituals?

llperezit was written in the 1800’s. Every country has dirt on their history, all of them. If they wanted to abolish the national anthem at sporting events, i would be okay with it. But since they do have it, i take not standing for it as a direct sign of disrespect for america. many muslim dmoinant countries consider any signs of disrespect towards their cluture/religion/nation as balshpemous with punishments ranging from death to imprisonment. The symbols of america represent eveyrone who chooses to live in it. Show respect towards the country you live in. If he doesnt want to, then thats his choice, but probably not a smart business decision.

Also, you speaking from a stance of privilege and it sounds ridiculous… Not standing for the national anthem isn’t a sign of direspect, especially for any person that have generations of oppression. This is America, where we can choose to not do sh*t the masses do, like standing up for the national anthem.
And did you compare American Slavery to wrongs by other countries? GTFOH…

llperezname those countries? i could easily eduacte you in seconds, but its not worth my time. Way too easy. Every nation has generations of opression. You want to debate that? I mean the vast majority of slaves brought to amercai werent even captured by white men, they were captured by other africans. you want to look at the countless pictures of egyptian temples with carvings of slave whippings or do any reserach at all of the slave ownership of afrcian tribes amongst themselves? And yes, as americans we can choose to not stand for the anthem, i stated he has that choice(albeit a financially unwise one). America is a nation that does tolerate freedom of speech (you want to look up pakistans laws against freedom of speach when it comes to denouncing the quaran? or anby other muslim countiries laws when it comes to denouncing the quaran?} ANd by comparing americas slavery history to other countries having done wrongs, yes i did. 100%. Please feel free to name all these countries that didnt try to over power or enslvae anyone else thoughout history. Please have it.

Also, the notion that white men didn’t steal and bought slaves from Africans is the most abnotious sh*t I’ve ever heard… Is it true that Africans sold slaves? Yes… But the vast majority wasn’t sold and were captured by white men…

Have you ever been to a muslim country or are you just repeating what some CNN analyst assumed. There are alot of countries governed through ideals of islam, that doesnt mean the leaders of the national are extreme terrorists that will kill you for not standing during the national anthem. doubledribblerParticipantI always thought it was funny. People will shout all day about the "freedoms" that their military gives them. The only time someone has a problem with someone exercising that freedom is if it is something that they don’t agree with. If he actually has these freedoms, why is this even a big deal? Is it because he is hurting your feelings or ego? He is not endangering anyone else or forcing anyone to do anything. I think it is far worse to talk during the national anthem then to not stand up doing it and as someone that grew up playing and going to multiple sporting events that action occurred a whole lot. If you don’t want to support his actions don’t watch Cavs games, don’t buy Waiters Jersey’s, don’t buy anything he endorses, but to act like he has to owe his fellow citizens something outside of following the same laws that we abide by is ridiculous.
You do know that Allah and God is the same thing right? It’s like calling someone names James, Jim
As for the military, this country doesn’t even show respect to them except in times of needs. These men and women go to fight, they come back here and maybe still have a family left to come home to or if they need help they cannot get it. Just look around your cities and see how many military are homeless and have serious psychological illnesses. The VA is a complete joke and there are plenty of veterans that will tell you that. There are plenty of wars that have been fought and veterans will tell you that looking back on things they never should have been there. We have been in the Middle East for how long and what have we accomplished outside of seeing record oil profits and an increase in opium production? Sure Hussein is dead, but this country put him in power. Bin Laden is dead and U.S. were the ones that trained and funded his men during the cold war. The area is still unstable and other groups are rising up so with these TRILLIONS of dollars spent what have we actually accomplished in terms of freedom here, there or globally?

theballerwayParticipantWhat a bunch of nonsense. So him not standing even if he was pouting about not starting is the reason why they are losing and the cause of all woes in Cleveland. They cavs play no defense and have a isolation based offense at the moment with little to no flow. All players want to start so that’s just common sense really. How does his sitting during the intro stop the from defending, nor is it the reason why Irving doesn’t pass (the pg with Bazz Muhammed assist numbers). In terms of fit he is a better catch and shoot guy than both Love and Irving.
McLemore has no ego because he hasn’t done anything since that game against Iowa when he was a Jayhawk.
Guy that obviously have no knowledge of black history need to stick to talking about basketball instead of stating non facts in a factual way. no need.

McLemore has no ego because he hasn’t done anything since that game against Iowa when he was a Jayhawk.
Guy that obviously have no knowledge of black history need to stick to talking about basketball instead of stating non facts in a factual way. no need.

"I got to do whatever I got to do for the better of the team," Waiters said. "If it’s starting, if it’s coming off the bench, if it’s the water boy, I got to do it. Whatever is best for the team."

Doesn’t explain the attitude.
If I were him I’d want to be traded, he neerds to be an intrigal part of the offense, not the spare tire.
