good player, good potential. Needs to find a role regardless if its 6th man or starting and work on his efficency. Whats the view on Dion and his role? is he a fit on this team after they add love or would you put him on the block?

Lebron is 29, Love is 25 and Irving is 22 and Waiters is 22 as well. The Cavs still have 3 first round picks this year as well. They also have a non guaranteed 10 million contracr for next year.

It really depends on the situation that develops in Cleveland if he stays put after the Love for Wiggins and Bennett trade happens. If Minneosta insists on Cleveland taking on Kevin Martin and Cleveland accepts, Dion may be best suited to come off of the bench in a sixth man role. In this scenario, he would likely have control of the offense and operate as Jamal Crawford and JR Smith do for the Clippers and Knicks, respectively. He could fill in for either guard spot with the starting group, and if Cleveland decides to go small they can use him, Kyrie, and Martin together.

If Martin is not included, Dion starting should not be too problematic, unless he is unreceptive to coaching and unwilling to accept his given role. He is good at attacking with the ball in his hands, whether it be off the wing or a top of the key/side pick and roll. He should improve his spot-up shooting and shot selection/decision making to best benefit his team.

Overall, I think Dion Waiters is an asset to this Cleveland team and could really help them if he plays within the team concepts on offense and defense, regardless if he starts or comes off the bench. Either scenario should allow him to be effective and help the Cavaliers win games. He is a young, naturally talented player and a passionate one; let’s give him time to adjust to his new teammates and coaches.

Dions best skillset is his ability to get to the hole, he has a very quick first step. With Lebron, Love, Kyrie, Mike Miller, James Jones being able to be on the floor at any given time with Dion, keeping him is a smart idea. Dion also shot 46% FG and 38%3pt post All-Star game. 43-37 (for the season) He was usually the 2nd option and was the first option when Kyrie was out yet improved his shooting quite a bit. If Dion now moves to the 4th/5th option and people sleep on him, hes going to suprise some people. All the BS about him not being a team player is BS. Hes a competitor who likes to win, and he wants to start and be a star however when he was coming off the bench, he seemed to embrace it.

I am not a fan of his attitude and shot selection.  But he is still young and with a veteran like LeBron to help rein him in, I could see him excelling in a sixth man role for this team.  With three guys who are more talented offensively than him, Dion could really take advantage of lesser defenders who don’t have the speed or strength to keep him out of the lane.  Then again, only if he understands his role.

Being able to hit an open 3pt shot…  He already shot it better than D. Wade last year, so for that alone the backcourt for the Cavs with Kyrie and Dion is projected to be better than one with Wade and Chalmers paired with LeBron…  You need shooters around LeBron and if he can hit an open shot, he should be fine…

If he stays with the Cavs he will become a much more effective player. I could see him starting just to massage his ego and playing about 16 minutes a game with the starters, and playing another 16 minutes a game with the 2’s, during which time he’ll be needed to be a volume scorer.

Simmons mentioned this on the BS Report and I agree with his assesment that Dion is in a poisition with the Cavs and his abilities to be the best ‘instant offense’ guy in the league, whether he’s starting or not he’s a very good ball handler and shot creator who can get hot and score in bunches to give their impending big 3 a break. The main issue of course is the headcase tendancies he’s show a bit of. But I think with the load and expectation lessened on his scoring he can improve his effeciency – he is never going to be the Wade type 2 guard that a team relies on for consistent scoring. Perfect situation for him in Cleveland now.
