If you haven’t seen yet, Dion Waiters was asked if he would be okay with coming off the bench and he replied that he wasn’t okay with it. I can’t blame the man for wanting to start as he has stated he wants to be the best shooting guard in the league one day, but a 6th man like Waiters would do wonders for the Cavs imo. You should always do what is best for the team especially when your on a rookie contract. I would love to have Dion back but not unless he has a team first attitude. He also hasnt commented on Irving’s extension, drafting Wiggins, or even on Lebron coming back!!! I figured most players in his shoes would be excited and ready to win.

Should the Cavs trade him or try to make this work? I say try to make it work because if Dion commits and is ALL IN then he would do great as a 6th man. If he isnt in then try to tade him for a big man. Thoughts?

You have Wiggins and I think he deserves to start.

I would look to move Waiters for a upgrade at PF or C . The guys I would target are Paul Millsap (Atl could do with a starting 2-guard who can score), Roy Hibbert (if he is on offer, Pacers may lose Stephenson and Waiters could be second scorer on roster), Nikola Pekovic (If you can’t get Love without Wiggins then go for the other big guy).

There are not a lot of big guys on offer in the NBA right now and chances of Hibbert are low, so the other idea may just look for a guy who can play 6th man along with couple other role players.

You cant give anyone anything. If Wiggins is the best player you will see it on the floor plus,Wiggins is a rookie gotta make him earn the spot. If he is clearly better then there will be no debate on who should start. Also Wiggins won’t be there if they trade for Love. Minesotta would be fools to take anything from Cleveland unless it started with Wiggins.

have elaborated on why Wiggins should start. To me Irving will get buckets as will LeBron and I think Bennett will be very effective as well.

What the Cavs need is a defender and a role player to fill that spot next to LeBron. Waiters will get frustrated as a third option sometimes fourth if Bennett is playing well and the Cavs don’t need that. Wiggins is good enough to play right away and being on the floor with LBJ at the same time I think will help his development. He can play D and it gives him time to learn to be a major piece in an offensive system as well, he can just play D and work on his offensive game much like PG in Indiana.

He would be great as a 6th man, but is Wiggins going to start over Waiters in his first game? It seems like it would be a better fit on paper with Wiggins starting, but he also has a ton to learn in his rookie year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade Waiters at the deadline and then allow Wiggins to start from there. As good as Wiggins can be he isn’t going to be great with just a snap of the fingers.

Waiters is being unreasonable. Even off the bench I bet he plays 30-mpg. He is on a rookie contract and if he plays like a 6th man of the year and wins a championship be can definitely attract a max contract elsewhere. He needs to think longtetm about his career.

He could be a perfect fit as a combo-guard 6th man but he wants to start…It’s not a matter of who starts but who finishes Dion, take a look at Jamal Crawford.Wiggins should start as he will be,imo,a defensive stopper from day 1 then waiters comes off the bench for scoring punch.I can’t stand those guys sayin’ "i want this or that" it’s a TEAM sport and you’re getting WELL paid to what you love.Does he want to be an all-star or NBA champion ? LBJ won’t accept his attitude,Waiters could be traded to the Wolves in a Love deal, where Waiters could end up being…a 6th man.

has improved his 3 point shot well enough to be starting along side LeBron…   Wiggins might look good defensively with LeBron in the line up, but that won’t help if people are sagging off him like D Wade on the Heat…   You add that with players should earn that spot and I’m FOR what Waiters is saying…

    Now for the not…

Waiters started last year and WANTED to go back to the bench because he said he played better coming off the bench…   He stated that…

Secondly, if Waiters do start, is Wiggins good enough to get his own shot off the bench?  I don’t think you can bring Wiggins off the bench and he will be as productive with LeBron and Kyrie sitting down…  Basketball wise, Dion is better for the team to come off the bench…

Regardless, if Waiters is going to be a problem I think you should seriously think about trading for Kevin Love now…  And NO, don’t bring Hibbert slow ass to the Cavs…  This team need to run and he can’t play with LeBron…

Not sure who Cleveland should start, but I think they should play a lot of small ball: Irving, Waiters, Wiggins, LeBron, and Andy V.

I would think about starting the season with Irving, Waiters, LeBron, TT, and Andy V just to get the rest of the guys acclimated to LeBron.

Let Andrew Wiggins earn it.  I think he is more of a small forward anyway.

So, they bring Dellavadova, Mike Miller, Wiggins, and Anthony Bennett of the bench.  If Wiggins can defend all five spots (lol) that is a pretty interesting second unit.  The second unit could either go big with Brendan Haywood as the fifth guy or small with Joe Harris as the fifth guy.

    his response was “Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo”

    and then some responded “Really”

and he wrote back “guess I can’t joke on here anymore, always have been and always will be a team player”

so to me he seems willing to be the 6th man just like he has done before with Cavs and Syracuse.

The only time he said anything about starting was when Mike “Clown” Brown had him sitting behind Jarrett Jack(SG) and Matt Dellavedova(rookie 6-4 at SF). He said he didn’t like it and thought he should only be on the bench if they had someone better starting. Soon after that Dion became the starter next to CJ Miles and then Deng when they traded for him.

According to basketball reference when starting (24 games) Dion averaged 18.3ppg, 2.8rpg, 3.5apg as a reserve (46 games) those numbers dropped to 14.7ppg, 2.8rppg, 2.7apg.  Those who watched the Cavs last year saw Dion play some PG where he suprisingly did quite well. With adding shooters like Mike Miller, James Jones, and Lebron James I think the Cavs can continue to utilize Dion at the point. He gets to the cup at will and is a very underrated passer. He’ll draw double teams and deadly 3pt shooters will be open.

I like his ploy to get shipped. It’s a trade me now, while my stock is high tactic. Good job, Dion!

He played well this season even while injured. If he comes off the bench and is not able to put up decent numbers, it decreases his trade value a bit. Think O.J. Mayo type of decrease in value. Nobody wants Orange Juice Mayonnaise anymore.
