Lakers will offer likely send Bynum and possibly Morris or a pick, as they as sending Pau and Odom for Paul. But with that I feel like they may be put in the same situation in 6 months, as he will be a free agent next summer. Bynum will probably thrive under the same system(20-10-2), but that team will likely be medicore at best. He’s use to winning, and he may not want to re-sign with Orlando, then they are back in the same situation next year. But perhaps he’ll like being the ‘man’ and want to stay. It’s a tough situation, and possibly a bit of a gamble.

The nets offer Lopez, and a couple of first rounders, but also take back Hedo’s contract. With Hedo, Gilbert, and Howard off the books they could have some serious cap space, a great offensive young C and a couple of late firsts. They’ll be pretty bad for the next few years, but they could build a good young core with some sort of combination of Lopez, Davis/Lamb/Barnes, and Shabazz/McGary/McAdoo and a few complimentary roll players from the late picks.

The Mavs always seem to talk with every big free agent, but I don’t see them making any sort of deal.

Personally I would prefer him to go to the Nets. LA will be good for a long time, and NJ has been bad for a long time. It would be good to have another elite team in the league.

I like the idea of him as a Brooklyn Net.

Bynum for Howard…is a Dnyce joke gone bad…

The Mavs have 0 assets to offer in a trade minus Dirk who is getting too old to hold that type of value…

The Nets offer of Lopez and picks is another laughable deal…Lopez is an over rated and unproven Center…He’s been on terrible teams and has never been the Leader of 1 of those bad teams…While Devin Harris was in NJ he was the MAN not Lopez…Deron Williams couldn’t cover up Lopez’s short comings…I’m seriously shocked at the level of Respect Brook Lopez gets from posters on this site…he’s a terrible defender, shot blocker and rebounder…and he’s gotten softer since entering the NBA…I have no idea why people would look at a Lopez for Dwight trade and think "That’s a Fair Deal for the Best Center in Basketball"…Lopez may be a top 10 Center in the NBA, but who’s going to argue the distance between him and Dwight is a lot further than New Jersey is to Orlando while driving uphill and out of gas…

WHy ARE People convinced that’s a fair deal…That’s actually one of the weakest player for player offer’s there is…Another thing people dont realize is when you trade Howard for Lopez you guarantee Lopez will dissapoint his next team and ask for the MAX when his contract is up…Good Luck with that One Orlando…

I don’t like any of these ideas!

Scarecrow hit the nail on the head. We’re probably going to get gipped off and I’m going to be sad.

because I don’t think he can see the big picture…Sure Brooklyn is a big market when your’e coming from Orlando or Utah, but to the rest of the World, Brooklyn is 1 of 5 boroughs in the Big Apple…What’s the difference between the Brooklyn Nets and The Queen’s-bridge Kings…what about the Harlem Hornets…Since he wants to play for a Big Market, why settle for a borough Team???…And since the NBA only cares about Large Market Teams/Money, why not move the New Orleans Hornets to Harlem, and the Sacramento Kings to Queen’s-bridge…What could be better for the NBA and It’s "Stars", than more NYC based franchises right???!!!

It’s all become a sad sick joke, and I for one can’t stand laughing at myself and the rest of the fans of the NBA that want to believe in something else rather than The Lakers,Celtics,Bulls,Heat and Knicks getting whoever they sniff becoming a Free Agent…Whats the point if all of our favorite players are going to leave our favorite team’s and become the Enemy…Because you are Not a true Fan if you still root for these players after they leave your team for Greener Pastures…Just saying…

Scare, no one is saying that Lopez is a fair trade for D Howard in terms of value, just that it might be the best thing Orlando can get. The other guys that they are being offered are a lot older than Lopez (like Gasol and Stoudamire) and have bigger contracts. Lopez is a proven starting center at this point. He doesn’t present an injury risk (unlike Bynum and Stoudamire) and he scores. He is solid.

Also, if D. Howard is dead set on going to the Brooklyn Nets and he is the only team he will do a sign and trade with, then that also makes this trade one of the few Orlando can pull off. Personally, I don’t know why the Lakers aren’t packaging up guys and trying to get Howard instead of Paul, but maybe that is coming or maybe there are other issues we don’t know about (like maybe Howard doesn’t want to play with Kobe or something like that).

And calling the Brooklyn Nets a borough team is silly. Manhattan is also a borough and it seems to do okay for the Knicks. Basketball is the "city game". New York is the greatest city in the world and it can support two professional basketball teams. It would work in the Bronx as well as Queens, but Brooklyn is more affluent and a lot closer to Wall Street than either of those places (and the Barclay Arena is closer than Madison Square Garden). Corporate box suites are going to be a good source of revenue for that team at that location and normal ticket prices will be close to Knick level.

Brooklyn may be just a borough, but it’s a borough of 2.5 million people.

I believe that big market teams will always be successful because their income can always offset their mismanaged moves, but small market teams can and will continue to survive as long as they have proper managment. The Spurs have been successful for a long time and were always able to retain their stars because of it, and OKC seems to be going down that path of sustainable success.  The things that have driven CP3, Dwight, and LBJ out of the small markets and into big cities were their franchise’s inability to put a good team around them. Bad contracts, bad drafts, no trades. I can’t fault those guys for wanting to leave, you can’t expect an athlete or a competitor to stick around with a team that has no connection with them other then the fact they had a bit of luck on lottery night.

What I don’t understand is why he does not want to come to Chicago. What are the drawbacks with playing here? Does Dwight not understand that this would be a team returning one of the best young players in the league, a solid low-post scorer, the defending Coach of the Year, and the majority of the best performing bench in the league? There are just so many positives for his long-term future, as well as his short-term success. What about Chicago is so unappealing? Ownership? The tax rate?
