As the NBA draft comes closer, the more im researching Shabazz Muhammad I would like the pistons to pick him(if Zeller is taken). When I see him play I see alot of similarity between him and James Harden. With being said he could be a sleeper in the draft. Also if taken by Detroit,I think Coach Cheeks could mold him into the 2 guard spot. Which still opens the sf can be for an athletic, defensive stopper forward.

Also, the pistons need a backup big that can score down low. Why not go with FA Chris Kaman, who is a Michigan product (played for Central Michigan and was in the 2003 draft). Kaman always expressed earlier in his career that he wouldn’t mind playing for the pistons. He could be the first big that can score off the bench, and is an upgrade over Villianueva, Jerebko etc. He could be at a solid price as well.

As for the need for a sf. The pistons should consider packaging Stuckey and Kyle Singler (or Middleton) for a athletic, defensive SF(Deng?).Or they can sign Trevor Ariza (who shouldn’t be that expensive) He’s still relatively young (28) and could help us defensively at the forward spot.

As for the second round…I would draft another sf…Personally, would draft either Lorenzo Brown (who is a big pg who is a pure pg), Tim Hardaway Jr. (athletic sf) or James Southerland(scoring sf). Either three would be a cheap, low risk, high reward players.

If Bazz if drafted to another team, a FA is would look at is the Bobcats Gerald Henderson. His father played for the championship pistons. I remember Dumars expressed interest awhile back. He would be a steal for us and he could come as a reasonable price as well. It gives us a good scorer at the 2 spot.

Finally, I wouldn’t mind bringing back Calderon, for low price. Just as a “insurance” for Knight. This year would be important for Knight. But I hope cheeks can help out Knight and teach him, because I’m rooting for him. If not Calderon, bringing Chauncey back as a backup and mentor would help for knight and management.

There are actually similarities between Shabazz and Harden, although Harden is a better shooter, more athletic and a wayyyyy better playmaker. I actually agree he could be a decent fit in Detroit.

The Bulls will be expecting to compete for a championship next year – imagine what Rose’s brother would say if they traded Deng for Stuckey and Singler! Dude would go on a rampage.

Finally, I really hope Calderon sign for a contender, he is the perfect backup PG to lead a 2nd unit and can even play more minutes if they need a lights out shooter on the floor and we know about his quality playmaking to take the ball out of a superstars hands for a few plays.

Personally, I dont like Shabazz. Anyone who looks pissed when his teamate makes the game winning shot doesnt sit well with me. Deng would be great, but I doubt he will be that easy to get.

At the same time, however, I cant criticize because I have been going back and forth on what they should do. This is the best I got so far,

Trade Monroe and Stuckey to IND for SF D. Granger and their 1st(23)
    – West is a FA and getting an upgrade at PF could give them an edge in making a run next year. Stuckey would give them a combo guard to come off the bench. We get a playmaker a SF plus another pick.

Trade our 8th and 23rd (from IND) to New Orleans for their 6th, Detroit draft Anthony Bennett
    – Bennett, I believe, would fit well at the 4 with Drummond at the 5. Bennett can stretch the floor with his shooting ability while Drummond can make up for whatever he lacks in defense

    Sign OJ Mayo
    – Young guard that would pair up well with Knight at the point.

That’d give a starting lineup of Knight, Mayo, Granger, Bennett, Drummond. I think that’d be pretty formidable

Why would the Pistons trade Monroe for Granger? Granger can’t even stay on the floor and Monroe is a very solid player for them that is young and makes way less money. Monroe is also better than Bennett. I think you need to go back to the drawing board.
