Derrick Favors still worthy of Dwight comparison?

Is the Favors/Dwight comparsion during his draft days still valid now?

How is Favors compared against 2nd year Dwight, as far as performance and physique?

Was he ever worthy of a comparison to the most dominant C currently in the NBA?

For only playing 20 minutes a game he's really produced. Everytime he starts he plays really well. Idk if he will be as dominate as Dwight, but he will be very good in his own right. Similar in Howard in his defense and athletic ability.

He's not Dwight Howard. The guy isn't as strong, isn't as athletic and probably isn't as big, that being said, he's still younger than some prospects in this year's draft (like Thomas Robinson for example), he is already quite a good defender and he is slowly developing an offensive game.

I think he can be very good, right now I think Kanter is the C and Favours is the PF, so he doesn't even play the same position as Dwight, there really is NO need for that comparison. He also has two perrenial all-stars playing in front of him, so he is being brought along slowly, unlike Dwight.

Favours is sometimes showcasing the ability to hit a little hook shot and can occaisionally hit a close jumper, he's fast, strong and athletic, I think the Jazz are quite happy with how he's been coming along.

They're not the same kind of

They're not the same kind of player...

But let's not mistake that for Favors not being a real asset for the Jazz, an exceptional rebounder, defender, gifted athlete, and hard worker. I think he'll be an all-star in the next 2 seasons.

for a guy who is only month

for a guy who is only month or so older than Perry Jones and like before said even younger than TRob than John Henson too, and who was selected as a raw player he has improved his skills really much..today it's not a surprise to see him showing post moves or shooting jumpers, also he continues to improve his body and he is around 6'10 255-260 now, next to 7'4 wingspan it's pretty huge for a power forward..i still see him as a potential future allstar

Derrick Favors

Derrick Favors is no longer worthy of comparisons to Dwight Howard at this point but part of the reason is that he was/is in a situation where it will be hard for him to flourish. He was too raw to get a lot of minutes and touches in the early part of his rookie year in New Jersey and in Utah, he just isn't good enough to start over Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson. D.Favors would probably be putting up better numbers if he got picked by a bad team with terrible frontcourt players where a team would have no choice but to give him a lot of minutes and touches regardless of how raw his game is.

I've been disapointed with his nba career. For a player who was viewed as a highlight player coming into the league has severly under produced. I admit the utah jazz need to play him more but there has to be a reason he's not playing..

hold on

look at the situations these guys are in. Dwight came to the Magic with no big man in front of him. Of course he will get acclimated to the game faster. i dont get how anyone can compare the two guys right now when favors is already playing beside to very good bigs at the moment with big Al and millsap. Also Kanter has just been brought in. I mean their is only so much basketbal to go around. dont be disappointed in a guys career when he hasnt been given as legit a chance as the other

That's the whole reason the

That's the whole reason the Jazz were trying to trade Paul Milsap. They saw how Favors has been improving and what he could do with more minutes so they felt Milsap was expendable. I think over this summer the Jazz will trade Jefferson and Milsap and play Kanter and Favors more since they are rebuilding anyway.

I always thought the Al Horford comparisons were pretty apt, though Favors is more explosive

Def not a good comparison

but Favors has been killing it this year. He is by far the best defender on the team. Last night, he went from guarding the post, to sprinting out to the perimeter to put a hand up on an open 3 attempt. No other big on the roster could do that. And I think him playing behind Sap and Al has really helped him and Kanter both. Favors has really improved his footwork, and Kanter has picked up Al's up and under and has been using it to great effect as of late. It's hard to put a solid comparison on him though. I've seen some Amar'e in him, some Horford, and most promising, sometimes he even looks like a young Malone. Last year, he looked timid alot of the time, but this season, he looks like he has that competitive fire. And as one of our local announcers said last night, he's starting to develop a nice little nasty streak on the defensive end. Favors has said he wants to be great, and I have no doubt that he will be, and that he will have multiple All Star appearances.

As far as him not starting goes, he probably should be. He makes up for the defensive liabilities of Sap and Al, and has shown he can put up solid numbers offensively as a starter. However, I think the main reason for him not starting is a) Big Al makes too much to come off the bench, and b) Corbin doesn't want to affect team chemistry, especially with this playoff push. On the other hand, Big Al has said he is fine with playing less minutes so that Kanter and Favors can play more so that the Jazz can get more wins.

Chris Wilcox 2nd year. 9ppg 5

Chris Wilcox 2nd year. 9ppg 5 reb

Favors - 9ppg 6 reb

Should be a career starter but never a All star IMO

The situation in Utah is

The situation in Utah is unique because if he was getting Howard type minute than maybe we could compare them better but their games are somewhat different. Also Favors and Howard are close in size if you go off how small Howard was in his first two years. Howard just has a different body type because Favors is like 255 260 now and Dwight is like 270 280 give or take. Also height wise Favors is taller than Howard was before his growth spurt. If Favors has a growth spurt of a inch more, he will be taller.

He could be possibly taller now but I have yet to check on his recent height. Favors to me is a Center.

If there were serious

If there were serious comparisons to Dwight he would have been picked first, not third. If you dismiss that foolishness he is going to be a really nice player. Probably 16/10/2 in his prime and top 5 in defense for his position.

Nobody (sane) was saying Favors was better than Cousins.

However, I'd draft Favors ahead of Cousins in a second, and I wouldn't think twice about it. If he learns to defend physically without getting into foul trouble, I see him becoming an extremely effective starting power forward. He has the physical tools defend anybody at that position, while being highly efficient (isn't ball-dominant, rarely takes ill-advised shots) offensively as well. Definitely lacks the offensive ceiling of Cousins, but could help a team win games just as much in the future without the drama.

tl;dr Cousins is more likely to become an all-star, but Favors is a two-way player and a steadier, more-balanced prospect.
