Derrick Caracter – Although Caracter’s nine fouls were ugly, he was easily one of the most impressive players of day one. The second rounder had his way with Greg Monroe and finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

He was making plays all over the court which led some to declare him the steal of the draft. He was able to display his post moves, jump shot, power, and defense tonight. Caracter has played well against the top players in the class and there’s a good chance he will make the Lakers’ roster if he continues playing this well.

The game is on replay now. Good offense and defense. Besides the silly fouls

He definitely looked good last night. He’s more athletic and quick now than I remember, he’s visibly lost weight since he played at UTEP. He he to continue to get better on D, but he is a solid NBA player no doubt.

I had a chance to watch Caracter when he worked out for the Pacers… I made a thread about it. He looked VERY good then. He looks even better now.

I think he’s going to be a great pickup for the Lakers and should play right away. He’ll be an upgrade over Josh Powell.

I think losing that weight helped him with being a better athlete. I was suprised how bad ebanks d was. I figured he’d play better d then caracter Im sure he will adjust though. Was pleased with caracter causeing a talented player like Monroe to struggle on offense and score on him and the other big man with ease even though they were taller

A Detroit Piston fan could argue…
The only reason he had his way with Greg Monroe is because of the physicallity he was aloud to play with since he wasnt being disciplined at an NBA level for his fouls. If it was an NBA game he wouldve been out of the game as soon as he struck his 2nd foul in the 1st QT. We couldve seen a 5pt 5reb stat line from Caracter as apposed to a 20pt 10reb game.

At the end of the day he still has alot of work to do to make the Lakers Roster but worst case scenerio he will be a D-League standout for certain.

Well in a NBA game some of thoses fouls wouldn’t have been called and he had 15 and 6 by his fourth foul which is still a good game. Not worried bout him making the laker roster. Couple of teams tried to trade wit the lakers for him and they turned them down so that tells you something right there. I’d be more worried bout Monroe who looked like a d leauge player out there while getting worked

Played great. The fouls don’t really matter because he’s not going to get significant minutes so foul trouble won’t be a concern when he plays in the regular season. He is a really good rebounder and has a NICE touch around the basket. I really hope he does succeed because he had a rough college career.

Caracter will make the Lakers, because they need cheap and capable bodies. They are spending $85 million + on eight guys, so 9-13 are going to be cheap.

As for your game analysis, you obviously are making stuff up. Monroe will be fine. It is funny how the writeups don’t match what happened. It is lazy analysis to look at a box score and say Caracter did this and Monroe did that. They weren’t always on each other. Monroe just missed shots. He got to his spots and missed. I’m still trying to figure out the eating up a player. Monroe showing on a pick-and-roll and Caracter getting a bucket off a nice pass? A 15-footer with a hand in his face? A nice post move over Jerebko? Nice brilliant analysis there stanford, you want a cookie.

And you’re right he wasn’t on caracter all game. Caracter handed out buckets equally to all the guys Detroit put on him. He didn’t descriminate

A guy can be at the game and still have no clue, which is often the case. You can call Monroe a D Leaguer and sound just as bad. There is a difference to how a team like Detroit appraoches these games and how the Laker do. Los Angeles has two guys on their summer team who will be going to training camp with them, and they might see if there is a third or fourth. Obviously, they are going to focus on seeing their two picks the most, which is why half their shots were from those two players. Detroit has five draft picks on their team. Almost all the minutes and numbers came from those five, but emphasis on any one of them is lessened because there is an investment in them all.

Where did I ever criticize Caracter? I thought the Lakers had the best draft in the league because of the value they got in Ebanks and Caracter. I think Caracter is easily is better player than Mbenga and Josh Powell right now. My problem is with inaccurate analysis/story telling, that is all.

One more thing on Monroe and the Pistons summer league. Light a candle for his career if Detroit moves Prince and starts giving minutes to Daye and/or Summers at the 3. Those guys are black hole chuckers. They were in last year’s summer league. I suspect it is a big reason they couldn’t sniff the floor while Jerebko played big minutes, and I worry that they just aren’t learning that isn’t how they are going to be successful in the NBA. How is it Jerebko can get more shots playing with Hamilton, Prince, and Stuckey than with Daye and Summers?
