When did this happen!? What the heck!? Whoa!
Deron Williams has been traded in a multiplayer deal to New Jersey.
Involves Favors and Harris for Williams...
I'm a Knicks fan, but Proko is a straight up Gansta.
What the hell? When did all this happen? The Nets are really trying to be competitive. I'm liking this new owner.
HOLYCRAPWTF This came completely out of nowhere.
I like the deal for the Nets though, Williams is a better player than Melo for sure.
I don't know how it is for the Jazz though, Favors could be special in the future.
New Jersey is just plain desparate right now. They werent able to get Lebron, Bosh, Amare, Boozer in free agency so they had to settle on Farmar and Outlaw. They lost out on Melo and Amare to NY. This is probably plan E right now for Prokorov but they gotta do something after losing out to the Knicks big time so far.
Surprised by this. I did not expect D-Will to be moved by this year's deadline.
So Jazz get:
Devin Harris and Favors and two first round picks (keep in mind the Nets had four first round picks in the next two years, two of their own, one from the Warriors, and one from the Rockets)
Deron Williams and Dan Gadzuric
Might be more involved than that, but the Jazz got quite the package in return for D-Will.
Well, IMO, Williams and Lopez are a better combo than Williams and Jefferson.. This is going to make Lopez great..
Desperate? Or hungry to get a superstar? DWill is better than Bosh, Boozer, Melo and Amar'e so they would actually be improving rather than declining.
I'm liking this owner, he wants to win and he wants to win now.
whoever said williams is better then melo, GET OUTTTTTTTTT.
D-Will is better than Boozer, Bosh, and maybe Amare...
but Melo is Melo.
Still this owner is legit!
The West is getting WEAK.
Although I may not agree with his decisions, he's not going to take NO for an answer. He's going to keep making deals happen and keep trying to get the big names to go to New Jersey. He's lost out on everyone else so he's going this route. I personally think he's too heavy-handed but he's here to win, and he's got a lot of moxy.
With that said, New Jersey can potentially be a #7-8 team now next season in the East, because Williams can lead this team to doing better than one would think possible. But, they still lack general talent and depth, they now don't have a clear PF of the future, and if Williams leaves in FA in 2012 like I expect this trade will end up being a negative, if they can't build around Deron with better talent.
Id say theyre desparate and hungry. Ny has really owned Prokrov so far and he knows it. Theyre still a couple pieces away from being competitive.
Has anyone had it worse than the Jazz in the past year? (Besides Cleveland)
They lost Jerry Sloan.
They lost Franchise Point Guard Deron Williams.
They lost All-Star Carlos Boozer, Swingman Ronnie Brewer, Stud Wes Matthews, and Sharpshooter Kyle Korver.
It's getting real bad.
So are the Jazz already printing up Jimmer Fredette jerseys?
My question is, Who else is there to join Deron Williams in New Jersey?
Blake Griffin? That's 3 years or so..
Dwight Howard? If he can convince him.
There really aren't any young stars left out there.
I guess made the determination it was best to rebuild now rather than go through a drawn out situation with questions and a dark cloud surrounding the team and D-Will and the contract situation and the Sloan situation. It's probably wise for them to start fresh, but Harris, while a nice player, isn't leading them to the playoffs this season or in years to come, and Favors isn't ready yet and is blocked behind Jefferson and Millsap, unless one of them are traded. Utah has officially become irrelevant for at least the next couple of seasons. Does anyone think Harris is the long-term solution at PG for Utah or do you think he'll be traded again?
Now the Nets become such a dangerous team, guys like Morrow, Vujacic, Outlaw, become much more usefull with Williams leading them. They could really use a solid SG thou, if I was Proko id target Mayo immediatly. NETS AINT LAYING DOWN!
Nets are sending their own 2011 pick and the acquired Warriors' 2011 first round pick (lottery protected for 2011, top 11 in 2012, top 10 in 2013, if not conveyed by 2013, then Jazz would be getting the Warriors' 2013 and 2015 second round picks).
Whose going to rebound? Humphries is a FA, will he be retained? If not, they'll need a PF. Whose going to defend the paint or the perimiter? Williams is a decent but not great defender. The Nets have a lot of holes, but they do have some good perimiter shooters and a pretty good lowpost scorer, so they have pieces. But it seems like Prokhorov is more concerned with getting big names and looking powerful than actually building a team that fits together.
Eric Gordon, OJ Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet, DeAndre Jordan, Nene, LaMarcus Aldridge, Wes Matthews, Greg Oden, Yao Ming, Kevin Love, Andre Iguodola
Just a few I think they should Target, use their high draft picks or "assets" to get.
I wonder if Utah is getting their 1st Rounder for this upcoming year.
Nets need to start making more moves FAST.
am I the only person that thinks the Jazz got the way better of this deal especially knowing that they're about to rebuild???? Favors and Jefferson is a mean twin towers combo for the future....
The Nets plan B of Deron Williams is better than Plan A of Melo. They have a true star point guard and a solid young center. On top of that, they only have $40 million on the payroll after this year so any questions about rebounding or small forward can be addressed over the summer. The only question left is if Deron Williams was available, then why would they have even bothered chasing Melo in the first place. Melo is great, but Deron Williams is on that level at a more important position.
Theyre gonna get 1 1/2 years of Dwill before he goes to the Knicks or Lakers or somewhere better. Its super risky, because who knows what Favors will be. If he reaches potential this will look mighty stupid for them, and if he doesn't than this was a straight up hijacking.
Jazz did pretty good considering you gave up your franchise player for an intriguing young PF, a solid guard in Harris, and two first round picks. Not quite sure when those picks will get to be used by the Jazz.
Might as well pencil Zach Randolph in as New Jersey's starting PF for 2011-2012...I expect them to be very active in acquiring a capable wing player.
in all seriousness, the nets should go straight after iggy. and i feel they could get him too. that would be scary.
So Brandon Wright was originally part of this 'Troy Murphy' deal, I guess he remains with the Warriors now?
they got robbed blind....totally panicked because they can't sign anybody straight off the street.....the Soprano crew will probably be at D-Will's door to shake him down sometime today....
"am I the only person that thinks the Jazz got the way better of this deal especially knowing that they're about to rebuild???? Favors and Jefferson is a mean twin towers combo for the future...."
The Jazz draft well and are a well run organization, so them getting a talented young player like Favors and two first rounders is much more valuable than had it happened to another team, but there isn't another Deron Williams in this draft. They are still taking a huge hit.
I heard Gerald Wallace and/or Zach Randolph are coming to Houston...
BUT Nets should go after Randolph if Humpheries isn't resigned.
& Iggy is a Must!
True, there isn't a DWill in this draft, but with the lottery protected pick coming from the Warriors (originally acquired by the Nets in a Marcus Williams trade, what happened to that guy?) and who knows what protections are on the Nets own 2011 pick, who says the Jazz will be using those picks this year?
I personally doubt the Nets own 2011 pick will have any restrictions, but the pick from the Warriors may not be used until 2012 (top 11 protect) or 2013 (top 10 protect).
How did the Nets lose? Deron Williams is a Top 7 player in the league right now. Derrick Favors is based on potential, who knows if he ever reaches his ceiling, and even if he does reach his ceiling, he's only going to be a top 10-15 player anyway. And Devin Harris has been horrible since he made that all-star appearance. Both teams really win in this deal.
Crazy! I can not believe this just happened. Well, the Nets have their star player. Will be really interesting to see what Deron Williams does with these guys, after all, he really will not have a lot of proven help. The Nets should be slightly better, but still bad enough that they will more than likely get a decent draft pick (pending the Utah picks being lottery protected of course). Still, I like this trade a lot for the Nets, it is not everyday that you have the chance to get arguably the best PG in the NBA. Will he sign an extension? Honestly, I like those odds. He has an owner who wants to build a good team and they just showed that by trading for him.
I am definitely thinking the Jazz might indeed miss the play-offs, and Jimmer seems like a possibility, lol. Devin Harris is incredibly injury prone, and while he showed serious flashes when he was traded to New Jersey, his lack of sustainability makes you question how great he really is as a PG. He is quick, no doubt about it, but his skill set is nowhere near Deron Williams and he is not even close to the leader/passer. Favors will be behind much better post players than he was in New Jersey, and he has a lot of potential. Overall a very surprising and cool trade. Will be great to see what happens. Nomoney, you happy D-Will is gone?
This trade should make Phoenix huge buyers.
I feel bad for Favors. He's gonna have to be on the bench behind Milsap and lose a lot of PT. That is unless Utah is not done trading. (potential Favors or Milsap trade perhaps?)
how is it that people run off at the mouth saying that the Knicks gave up too much and they don't think the Nets gave up too much especially because D-Will is probably a 1.5 year rental.....they HAD a good young core but now not so much....idk why they're so anxious to dump Devin Harris....I promise they gave up too much....
He's going to want to see what he can do with the roster the Nets have, and what they do in improving the roster over the summer. I don't see him just staying in NJ if they don't show signs of actually being able to compete with the elite teams. Which makes this a great opportunity for NJ, but with an incomplete overall grade until the dust clears and we see what they have going into next season.
but this trade caught me completely offguard... and I LOVE it...lol
The West is getting weaker by the minute
haha anybody catch in a thread before this somebody say that deron williams is def. NOT being traded! well, sir, you look like a foolish fool.
Adrian Wojnarowski's twitter feed
"The Jazz will get the Nets 2011 first round pick and Golden State's 2012 pick that Nets own, league source says."
"The Golden State pick is protected 1-7 in 2012."
So they'll get a top ten pick this year in a draft that has one good position. It just so happens that the Jazz are plenty full at power forward, so it doesn't really help them. I like Jimmer, I think he is another Mike Bibby, but going from Deron Williams to another Mike Bibby is not a lateral move. I don't think the Warriors are going to get much better than they are now unless they start playing defense, and they aren't going to get better defensively with the roster that they have. So basically, the Jazz will get their pick next year, and it will be that of a 30-40 win team. If that is between 10-15, I don't think what would likely amount to three good players (giving the Jazz the benefit of the doubt on drafting and development with Favors, a top ten this year, and another late lottery pick in 2012) adds up to one star.
"The West is getting weaker by the minute"
Did something happen to the Spurs, Mavericks, Lakers, Thunder, or Hornets? All the past couple of days has done is change it so instead of having eleven of the top sixteen teams in the league, the West will only have nine.
Typical of the Jazz organization; straight to the point. None of this bull$hit drawn out trade talks spanning over months with the media milking the story for all it's worth. The Jazz went out and pulled the trigger in a quiet, efficient manner without beating around the bush. Kudos to them.
I like them getting Brandon Knight with that pick this year....he's not ready yet but he can play behind Harris for a minute.....
That pick from the Warriors to the Nets, now to the Jazz, has had its protections edited about 2 or 3 times since that Marcus Williams deal back in the day went through.
So it is top 7 protected in 2012 and 2013, and top 6 protected in 2014.
He needs quality time to be able to develop as a PF. You can't keep him on the bench, i hope all of this trade rumors did'nt hurt his phsyche. You know to come into the L as a 18/19 yr old Raw Rookie & have your coach blast your play in the papers/then to be a trade assest before you can even look for an apartment is assinine, if Favors turns out to be a SuperStar, this will show why the Nets will always be the Ugly sisters to the Knicks. I know He was an upside pick but work on his game let him grow & make mistakes. Also how does DWill make NJ better?
Williams is a better player than Melo, and they gave up less to get him than they would have had to to get Melo. Excellent deal for both teams. The Jazz get a proven NBA talent, a 19 year old with high upside and two first rounders. The Nets get arguably the best pg in the league and a player with fewer flaws than Melo. I like the Nets' future better than the Knicks' right now.
