You never like to see someone lose their job, but I’m glad the Knicks fired Derek Fisher. Not only was he a bad head coach, but his life off the field was also unbecoming of a head coach who is supposed to set an example for his players.

Kurt Rambis will be the interim head coach, but so far I’ve seen on twitter that the top long term candidates are Luke Walton, and Brian Shaw. I’d like Walton, but Shaw would be like staying in neutral to me. I actually hope Phil Jackson can get over himself and his system and consider guys like Thibs, and Jeff Van Gundy, who probably wouldn’t run the outdated triangle, but would probably get the most out of their players.

On another note I wonder if this means there are some roster moves, and trades coming. Obviously the biggest piece that could move would be Carmelo Anthony, who I would love to extract as much value out of as possible before his contract becomes a complete albatross in a few seasons. I would recoup as many long term assets (maybe a pick in this years draft and a young player with potential or two), and full out build around Kristaps Porzingis.

As a Lakers fan who really wanted Walton to be the next coach, this is saddening due to the fact that I am certain Walton will follow Phil to NY.

I bet Phil Jackson would never coach this roster he has assembled. Langston Galloway, Robin Lopez, Kyle Oquinn, Derrick Williams   What a Joke.. Phil has only and always coached rosters full of talent.  Firing and rehiring wont fix the Knicks issues.

I remember most Knicks fans posting how Fisher was going to take the Knicks to the promise land…..not even two full season…….GONE! Phil Jackson messed up allowing Kerr to follow his heart and coach the NBA Champs Dubs and not coach the below .500 again Knicks!

Bit of a shock this has happened although the Knicks have been on a skid recently. Kurt Rambis is in situ and will take up the reigns on a temporary basis. Fellow Jacksonite Brian Shaw will of course be mentioned as has been pointed out above.

Luke Walton I doubt would be allowed to leave GSW until after the season is over so could well be at the centre of a bidding war between Lakers and the Knicks. A lot would depend on how much each franchise could sell themselves to Luke and what sort of moves they would want to make. Money wouldn’t be an issue as both teams could pay virtually whatever they wanted too. It’s more the big picture of how each team sees themselves developing.

Also Luke would be in a very strong position to ask for imput on signings, trades, assurances on what style he could pay ( more in NY than LA).

The Knicks for a team their size have always been underachivers and many HOF coaches have failed there but it’s still a huge job for any coach wanting a challenge and the Knicks could match most salary demands so Phil can cast his net wide.

I feel legitimately bad for y’all Knicks fans if PJ seriously thinks that Rambis, who at the Wolves went 32-132, is a better option at this point than Derek Fisher. At this point, the PJ disciples (Shaw, Rambis, Fish)- with the exception of Luke Walton (who benefited from having one of the all time best NBA squads at this point) have been failing pretty spectacularly as HC’s. Y’all deserve better than this, Knicks fans

Derek fisher should’ve been fired earlier. He makes awful in game decisions, taking out the wrong guys at the wrong time and triangle offense will not work with this roster. Also the only person that can teach the triangle offense and do it the correct winning way is phil Jackson but he is not going to coach. I think we should get away from the whole triangle offense and play some fast ball with a lot of movement. I don’t think we should hire Luke Walton because to be honest he did not have a hard job coaching golden state team. They coach themselves and they are so in sync together and it’s all thanks to kerr and the players that are on the team. I think we should definitely consider hiring someone like jeff van gundy or Thibodeau. We need to get away from the west coast people. hopefully we can sign some good players this summer and win some games next year. Also I can see Phil leaving the knicks soon. it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Thibs was quoted saying he’d crawl to work to coach the Knicks.

For those? I understand his dad played and all and he was in the L but what has he done. I don’t see the GSW run as him being best candidate for those 2 positions.

is finally gone.   I swear this guy took the most shots with his foot on the 3pt line than anyone else in the history  (Don’t quote me on this, but I’m sure he’s at least Top 2).    Anyway, a bad teammate (say what you want, but dating an old teammate’s ex-wife is low).   Even worse coach, his line ups, him not calling plays…  The Knicks were really horrid at times and most of it was due to Fisher being incompetent, but with a world of confidence.   Let’s just hope he doesn’t get an analyst gig…
