I’m very confused as to why Fox is being considered a better player and prospect than Smith. What does he do better than Smith as a player and does he have more potential than Dennis Smith? Why doesn’t Dennis Smith get credit for how well he played in a dysfunctional situation and the fact that he was coming off of a major injury? If the kid went to Duke how he was supposed to we would be calling him the #1 pick this year. I’m really not that high on Fox and would love some feedback on what I’m missing

I like Smith a lot myself, and I do think him and Fox are a lot closer than most are projecting right now. Smith was part of a bad situation at NC State last year, but he didn’t come close to making the best of it, and his questionable attitude problem from his HS days were made even more apparent. He also had an ACL tear within the last 2 years which is a big deal, although he still showed the same elite athleticsm he always had last year. I was shocked that Smith skipped the combine because I think he would have tested off the charts and thought he missed a real oppertunity to increase his stock. He will work out for teams though, and I think his stock will go up after that process.

Fox had a brilliant run in the NCAA tournament last year which really raised his stock immensley, although I’m still a bit worried about his jump shot. Ultimately I think Fox will go ahead of Smith in the draft, but if Smith can harness all his potential it should be very fun going forward to track them both and see who becomes the better player. Personally I like Smith better going forward too, but it’s a toss up in my opinion.

Smith is not a top two lock is because of the knee injury, period! Remove the knee injury and he had the same type of year markelle had at a bad program. Elite speed, athleticism, handle, and an improved shot. The only reason i’m hesitant on my sixers taking him is because our young draftees injury history, but then again you can take a guy who was never hurt and they could get hurt at any time, injuries are apart of the game.

It was a combination of Smith not being in the tournement, Kentucky being on tv all the time and being sucessful in terms of W/L  and nat;l ranking. Fox being a defensive standout and that UCLA. Nobody even noticed fox was poor against UNC the game after. It was that big of a statement.  I think scouts are more in tune with how they really match up and not so caught in the moment.

If fox stars shooting bricks in his workouts he could drop I guess but eitherway I  cant imagine either of them being avilaable past 8/9

The reason everyone so high on Fox over Smith is that they both 6’3 but Fox has a 6’9 wingspan and Smith has a 6’4 wingspan. If you look at Fox when he on the court he looks 6’5ish. Now you add his blazing speed  is scary. His form on his jumpshot isn’t bad so many think he can get a decent jumpshot ala John Wall or Jason Kidd. Then he is the best defender out of all the guards.

I personally like Smith because I remember in high school he was outright better than Ball/Fox and Fultz then tore his ACL.

Most teams are going off who they think has the higher ceiling. Either 2 teams are getting a gem

Freaking Frank Jackson garbage behind!!!!!!!  SMH.   Anyway, yea I agree.   I think D. Fox is overrated TBH.   I think he has the head on his shoulders to be one of the best players in this draft, BUT his current ratings are overrated.   He’s not as fast as they say.  His defense isn’t that great.   He’s not that great of a passer.  Fultz is probably the best overrall player at the PG position.   Zo is the best PG at that position.  D. Smith is the best scorer and has the best athleticism.   Fox?  Pretty good all-around, but nothing to me that’s really elite.

The problem with smith is sometimes his too concerned with his scoring and his motor on defense is bad, he’s a liability in D, he’ll throw wild jumpshots, and force the issue sometimes, that’s why scouts are concerned, and with the ACL tear, he’s play style could get him injured since his a bit uncontrollable, he tend to iso too much and pull up ala Dame lillard but without having lillard’s consistent jump shot. Will he be efficient enough?, will his jumpshot be consistent? or will he learn how to pass and shoot and not turn the ball over? he has short wingspan than fox.

Fox too me is a bit wierd when analyzing him, he has no jump shot, although he’s the quickest of all the lotto pg, he has a good height, above average wingspan, and he’s a pg who makes players around him better, he’ll look to pass more than smith, the question is, will the team that draft him fix his jumpshot? but running a team, I think fox is better.

The questions sorrounds this two who’s better, who’s this, who’s that, But to me, you have to look at the situation, fox played with better teammates and coach with Kentucky, he played on a better system, while Smith like Fultz played on a bad team, you have to have the idea of trying to switch them. will smith be better or scouts will drool more if smith played in kentucky? or fox dropping if he played on NC state?

I think Smith is misunderstood. One thing people really need to understand is just how tough ACC basketball was this year. For intance where Fultz and Ball played in the Pac 12 was my favourite conference to watch because of the free flowing open game but the amount of competitiveness was incomparable to the ACC. There were rarely any easy games for any teams. Ask fan with an ACC based team how crazy that conference was this year teams were scrambling 3 games into conference play.

The ACC ended up having 9 tournament teams (should have been 10 with Syracuse being snubbed), and the eventual Champions UNC. Even the lower ranked teams like Pittsbugh a very proud program with two accomplished seniors Artis and Young only won 4 games but they could beat you on any night. Clemson with Blossomgame only won 6 games. NC State was ridiculously dysfuntional and lacked talent/players to compliment Smiths game.

There were rarely easy buckets or casual assignments pretty much every possession was a pressure moment and even with his inconsistencies he was amongst the best if not the best point gaurd in the conference with Berry and Perrantes. The only players I would say defenitely outperformed him from beginning of the season to the end were Jackson and Kennard.

Smiths gonna be a stud in the league and I actually like the fact that people are doubting him, Im sure he limes it too.

     Dennis smith: Ceiling: D-rose/Cp3/I.T floor D.J augustine/Randy foye/Steve francis

    Vs

Fox : Ceiling Wall/Eric Bledsoe/Patrick beverly floor: MCW or Elfrid Payton

However what really separates the two is  two factors:Fox hasn’t had any major injuries+ Physical tools which makes the argument for Fox a lot easier to sell people on. The second is Fox’s team made the Tournament vs Smith’s  not making it..

IMO you go with the best fit of your teams playstyle: Which is why I can see Fox going either 4th or 5th or 8th at worst and Smith going anywhere  from 5-12.

Aside from Fultz Smith is my number 1 PG. I actually am starting to think Ntilikina is higher than Fox on most boards.

Orlando would probally pick Ntilikina because while Fox and Payton have different approaches and pace they have very similar skillsets strengths and weaknesses. Ntilikinas style contrasts Paytons and John Hammond is never scared to draft based on potential rather than the popular fan pleasing choice.

The Knicks would probally pick Ntilikina as well. Phil Jackson drafts well coached players and likes bringing in players from European systems. Always has.

All that straight line drive to the rim stuff wont work in the NBA when youve got a 7 foot mobile defender with 7’5 wingspan switching on the pick and leaving you space to shoot. You gotta knock down those jimmys and learn to feel out the defence play with some craftiness.

    Fultz

    Smith

    Ball

    Ntilikina

    Fox
