DukeDaSquadParticipantIf any of you watched the ESPN College basketball signing feature, then you seen Dennis Smith Jr’s decision to finish high school early and enroll next semester at NC State to be able to better rehab his torn acl. What do you guys think of this?
I think its a great decision

tuck243ParticipantAnd I wished we didn’t sign Thorton for this year. Knowing he will be near a 4 year player. Do you think that ultimately made Dennis’s decision for him?

ncballerThe shipped sailed as soon as Duke got involved with Thornton. K had previously told Smith he would not recruit any other PG from the class (which Thornton at the time was part of 2016). That did not sit well with him. Had heard he and K did not really get along. Not that it matters, Frank Jackson might turn into a better player if Smith’s ACL recovery does not run smoothly.

tuck243ParticipantI remember arguing with you over him going to Duke and UNC…. We were both wrong… I truly feel like he would’ve had a Kyrie Irving type year (How good he was in those 11 games, lol) if he played at Duke. Hope that ACL does heal, dude was explosive with that first step…

Andrew1984ParticipantThere are very few players I’ve ever seen whose style I would describe as "militant." So far, it’s Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose in his prime. Dennis Smith Jr. has it in high school and I’m very curious to see whether he can maintain it at the next two levels.

TarHeelRavenParticipantback to the original post. It’s a smart move for him to enroll at State early. I’m sure that NC State has better rehab equipment than anything he would have at his high school. I also think Duke saved their season by recruiting Thornton. Who would’ve ran the point for Duke without him? Luke Kennard? He’s their only true PG and while Dennis Smith chose State, Duke got another very good point in Frank Jackson so it seems like everything worked out fine for them.
