Roland209ParticipantHey guys. Long time reader and first time poster. I’m a huge Kings fan and saw this story. DMC wants a max contract extension or else he’ll demand a trade. What do you guys think of this? Personally I say trade him if he wants the max. I don’t think his antics are worth the max. What do you guys think?

KHAM83ParticipantAt work, did not read the whole article, but did he really say “or else he’ll demand a trade”???
He is a big, which is a premium, with a lot of potential. Sales pitch, youll understand why he thinks he should get a max, regardless if he has shown whether or not he deserves it. But if he did say he’ll demand a trade, I think you move him this Summer. Saying something like that shows that he will not change his attitude.0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/20/2013 - 10:04am #801428

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantRidiculous. Here’s a big man that has never shot over 50% from the field, is in constant foul trouble and has a child’s mentality.

KayjayParticipantNEGRO PLEASE, TAKE THAT SHIT ELSE WHERE.
I love Cousins, believe me I really do. But for someone who has yet to prove he can shoot a decent percentage or play as a team player can suck a fat one. LOL are you kidding me? The headache that we Kings fan put up with every time he hits the floor?!
I’ll tell you what, I was against drafting Zeller, NOT ANYMORE LOL. I say we trade him and see what we get. I want a player though, not draft pick’s. I don’t know who, but I’ll be damned if we are going to be held hostage by some hot head. Great player, but not worth that kind of investment rofl. Sorry.

DolanCareParticipantDon’t mean to call you out…. but I’m gonna call you out.
You’ve criticized me and everyone who recommended that the Kings trade Cousins. Even when proposals including requiring quality prospects while shedding Salmons and/or Hayes contracts.
Now you’re want to trade him?
I guess the main question is: are you Kings fans actually that surprised that he’s demanding a max deal? Really guys? He’s immature and selfish, so you’re shocked that he wants lots of money? Seems painfully predictable.
Now with this statement, he’ll be harder to move since another teams knows what he’s expecting.

KayjayParticipantI don’t want him. Simple as that, and that wouldn’t be calling me out. You are simply asking a question. I didn’t want to trade him because I’d thought he would go out and work hard and prove people like you wrong. But its clear the guy wants to get paid like a superstar yet not play like one. Who would want a guy like that on their team? not me.

DolanCareParticipantI just dont see how thats a game changer. Centers with his talent are incredibly rare. Plus, he’s a selfish guy. Did you actually think he would just lace up, work hard and think team first? Cmon man.

OhCanada-ParticipantBest thing for both parties is a trade. Sacramento trades him for a Top 5 pick this year then aim for Wiggins, Parker, or Randle. Draft Zeller and Len or Zeller and Burke/Mcollum/Oladipo and rebuild with good character and good mentality.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDeAndre Jordan got 4 years over $43 million. JaVale McGee got 4 years $44 million. Marc Gasol got 4 years over $57 million. Roy Hibbert got the max at 4 years $58 million. Brooke Lopez got the max at 4 years over $60 million.
Now, I’m not a big DeMarcus Cousins supporter, but big man are getting paid in the NBA. SOME team will pay him the max or pretty damn close to it.

DolanCareParticipantThat sounds about right. I still think the Kings should move him and get another team to pay him. The Cousins-Kings marriage has been too dysfunctional to salvage IMO. I doubt Cousins has any respect for the organization.

Ghost01ParticipantIndiana is the only one here that is spot on…
We know Cousins hasn’t exactly had the best attitude. But look at the lack of leadership both in his teammates and his coaching staff he’s had so far. He is phenomenal talent, and could very well be an all-star someday if he got traded to the right team. If Jordan and McGee are going to be in the 40s, and Hibbert and Gasol were max guys, then Cousins is right in the wheel house of a max guy.
He probably should be traded, it probably would be in the best interest of the Kings and the future of Cousins. But don’t act like this is so crazy from a talent standpoint.
I know the FG% thing is a worry…but DeAndre Jordan leads the league in FG% and he is beyond terrible offensively.

kazamParticipantI have no idea what the Kings want in return if they do indeed not offer him the max but if I am the Ujiri and the Raps organization it is definitely hard to not inquire. Assuming they do not demand JV back I am more than willing to take a chance on him.

KayjayParticipantSwag and Indiana, the problem is he hasn’t even proven he can be the franchise player us Kings fans want him to be. But now seeing how many big men have already gotten paid, it might not be to far off from happening. If we do end up paying him, like its been said we should add some incentives. One of them pertaining to him getting anger management. js.

HitsterParticipantCousins has all the talent but he carries so much baggage and has disciplinary problems so no way is he worth a max deal. I’d say $50 million over 4 years as a ballpark figure perhaps, the one thing that could appeal to the Kings to give him an extension is that if he is then tied down for 4 or 5 years, he has increased trade value.
You could almost see the Kings giving him an extension and then ship him out.

HotSnotParticipantCould you imagine Cousins somehow playing in these NBA Finals? Could you imagine him making the right basketball play at exactly the right moment with under 2 minutes left in the 4th? Those are the moments that define an NBA career. They are the moments that everything in an NBA season is geared towards. That potential is what makes you deserving of a MAX contract.
I’m POSITIVE Cousins will never have the focus, will, discipline or temperment to succeed under such stressful conditions.
Any GM who gives him a MAX contract or anything close to it is a F@%KING MORON and deserves to be fired. Guys like Cousins will never change and never mature to a “normal level”. The trade demand further proves how small a man he actually is. Why not just stomp your feet and go cry in the corner? There’s a certain level of tact that goes into anything you say or do and Cousins has no concept of it.
With that said… I MIGHT consider 4yrs at between 10-11 per. That would be my max for such a headcase… and even then, its such a huge risk for my team to take. Cousins is a locker room cancer that drags down the moral and collective energy of the enitre team. I used to believe that having the right veterans around might help him like it does for so many other players… but Cousins is one of those people who is beyond help. He simply does not think before he acts and he has remarkably little self control. No matter what you teach him, its like his brain shuts down when he’s not calm and he becomes stressed. He operates on instinct and let’s face it… his natural instincts SUCK.
These are the reasons why he will NEVER be a key component on a championship team… so why pay him like one?

rjb241Participanti think Cousins has the potential to be the best big in the NBA, but do i think he’ll ever reach it???? Prob. not but the potential is def. there and that’s why he’s gonna get paid. One of these teams that has money will take a chance on him if the kings don’t pay up. I know alot of ppl hate how it works, but he is going to have alot of leverage against the kings because there are plenty of teams atleast 5 that will give him a huge pay day. i honestly would not be shocked if he got a max deal, some of these teams gotta spend their money on something. I’m not saying i’d give him the max, while the best case scenario for cousins is the best big in the league and a game changer, the Worst case could be bad, real bad, like getting coaches fired every year, fighting w teammates, throwing a punch in a game and getting suspended for weeks, just anything, you never know whats going on in his head.

HitsterParticipantThat’s the frustrating thing about DMC he can put up 17/10 when he almost appears to be going through the motions and is shooting less than 50% from the field. It makes you wonder what an elite coach and the right sort of mentors could get out of him.
