Dellavedova has been a very valuable player for thr Cavs this season. Undrafted and on minimum salary, he represents some savvy off-court scouting. Do you think he will get paid in the off season?

if only he could hit open 3’s more consisently.  Hard working guy…didn’t look like he had the mental toughness early on in the season to be a contributor on a Lebron team.  (and yeah…a lil dirty doesn’t hurt) lol

Championship teams need players like Delly…average roleplayers who think they are better than they are, and have the mentality of an all-timer. They play with heart.

Eddie House, Chris Anderson, Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, and JJ Barea are all some recent examples of this type of player.

Dellavadova is one of the grimiest, dirtiest players ive ever seen in basketball. He also does a really good job of making himself look like the victim, and the refs fall for it every time. I really hope he tries his antics against the Warriors, they are going to eat him alive, I’ve seen dude intentionally try to injure players, pretty obvious actually. Someone is going to hurt little Dellavadova in the Finals and it’s going to be sweet to watch. Warriors in 6

Wish I could neg you twice. Since when is playing hard dirty? Delly isn’t the most talented player but he’s certainly not dirty. Just because he does the dirty work doesn’t mean he’s dirty. Neg me back if you want…

I disagree, if you watch the vid replays, you can twist it into dirty intentional etc…Just regarding recent attn in the playoffs that was debateable as intentional was the injury to korver who himself intentionaly dove for the ball and delly getting the ball and spinning out to pass it,instead of having to burn a time out;smart basketball on delly part, careless, wreckless…not really, just aggresive. The entire atl roster is soft.

in the chicago series delly did lock up tgibb leg intentionaly imo but that was not with intent to injure, there is a huge difference. taj reaction was obviously with intent to harm…kicking is for the mma.

the horford incident would not have happenned had horford not pulled delly down. And so the over reaction by horford and the rule was broken regarding what happenned. Is the rule flawed, maybe…i think Horford assumes delly is dirty and carelass like most people who immediately want to blame the scrappy unknown who didnt get drafted but is making an impact for his team instead of focusing on the real issue that atl is frustrated they are getting elimintated on tuesday.

oh and i agree gsw will go home with their tail between their legs in 6.

I don’t see his play at "dirty" though when I think dirty I think guys intentionally trying to cause harm out there. I think Dellavedova is simply reckless. Not much better when it comes to health of opposing players but his intentions dont seem to be to injure guys. Maybe I’m the idiot.

I get that the dude has to play a certain way because he won’t be in the league if he doesn’t go balls to the wall, but he also isnt sooo good that if hes in the middle of many more of these scrums he can’t be replaced.

I hate that Horford got ejected tonight. That’s a danm joke. The league makes a habit of treating different players more favorable and if that notion is true, Horford should’ve stayed in. No doubt in my mind if LeBron is that guy he’s not getting kicked out. No doubt in my mind if DeAndre Jordan is that guy he’s not getting tossed. Horford isn’t some random role player, he’s the Hawks best player. If the league is going to do that, why did they rescind Russell Westbrooks 16th Tech?

I don’t think he is dirty I think he just goes hard and is happy to throw his body around. He grew up playing Aussie rules football and this is basically the mentality of all these guys.

I used to play in an amature league for a few years and they drill into your head that if you go in soft you’re more likely to get hurt than if you go in hard and for the most part that is true. On all these so call dirty plays he is simply going for the ball and doing whatever it takes and I doubt he would be in the league if he didn’t play like this.

I believe that you are correct in your assumption he would not be in the league much longer if he wasn’t high motor like he is…his hustle is what cannot be ignored, its why the cavs love him and everyone else hates him.

It is obvious he is not very athletic, and he needs about 6′ to make a clean shot from beyond the arc…but i have to admit i was surprised at how high his iq is and even more so how he sees the floor,in respect to not getting fradted anyway.

I applaud the cavs coach for sticking with him throughout the season, he could have been and probably would have been in the d league on most rosters before he ever had a chance to prove himself…

That brings me to my next point that there are always a couple of really solid role players that don’t get drafted but make an impact in the right situation, but most that do are still out of the league in a very short time because the most they can get is ten day c’s.

i will take a gamble and say that from this years undrafteds (yet to be determined) a couple of players come to mind as being underated: Ladontae Henton of Providence and the long shot like Delly; Tyler Kalinoski out of Davidson.

When you are in the NBA, and you are white and generally unathletic "dirty play" helps keep you in the league, and gives you an edge over bigger more athletic competition. Two examples are John Stockton and Mike dunleavy. Stockton was notorious as the most dirty player in the league in his day, and although he had a hall of fame skill set without it, it was that gritty do anything to win moxy that made him truly great. And MD JR. Is one of the dirtiest players in the league today, just ask the Bucks. The only other thing he brings to the table is that he can knock down an open shot, and he’s starting for the 3rd best team in the east, coincidence… I think not. Delli is the same kind of player. The opponent will always hate him, and his teammates will always love him. HE IS DIRTY! And that’s ok.

OP here…It looked like he was Lebron’s best friend at the media conference today.

There could be worse guys to be buddies with from a business point of view. I like his hustle, and he’s just doing whatever it takes to win. He sure could use a shave though.

Delly ain’t dirty, people always cry about these type of players who play hard who give 110% every game. Yes the guy is un athletic, yes the guy doesn’t have a reliable shot. But he’s the type of player you’d rather play with then play against because of his intensity. Nothing worse than players taking shots at delly instead of focusing on the game. Hopes he keeps improving and proves all his haters wrong.

    Sincerely Warriors fan

if he would fall into currys leg and take him out of the playoffs you would be saying hes dirty! im not a fan of any of the teams left. I think the guy tries so hard it puts him and other players in bad situations. I don’t think he tries to hurt them but I think he tries to slow down a play. I want to watch him another year before I decide if hes dirty or not.

I think he could start at PG for some teams. He’s shown all year that he’s not a huge step down from Kyrie.

76ers and Knicks should go after him and draft some size instead of combo guards.

Have you seen the Sixers roster?  Im all for drafting the best available at 3, but Nerlens, Joel and Saric are pretty big. If they were to take a big, assumes KAT and Okafor go 1-2, wouldnt they do better trading down and picking up another?

I think Porzingis and his floor stretching ability would be a great fit. Noel could play SF on defense and PF on offense. Saric can also play lots of SF, whenever he comes over. Even Porzingis might be able to defend some/lots of small forwards with his length and mobility and bbiq.

But Winslow would be another bigger option than the combo guards.

But trading down also makes a lot of sense. Myles Turner, or Kelly Oubre, or one of the real point guards.

As Chris Webber said – he surely is an irritant though, he always to tries to instigate something. The play when he grabbed Taj Gibsons leg with his leg wasn’t dirty, he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, he just wanted to irritate Gibson and succeeded. That’s the kind of stuff Dennis Rodman and Gary Payton did – make the opposing players absolutely hate you.

These are moves that are just like flopping – they don’t harm anyone, but they can really help your team. And they should probably be fined.

To me a "dirty" player is someone who purposefully tries to hurt other players.

All this coming from a Cleveland fan. So I may be biased. That Korver play does look dirty though, but it’s extremely hard to tell.

It wasn’t dirty, he was just going for the ball. Look at the play again. Delly dives at the ball, the one thing coaches always say they love as a hustle play. Korver went in soft, he didn’t want to leave his feet. Delly wanted it more and got the ball. Korvers foot unfortunately got caught up and he was injured. I’m a big fan of Korver – love his shooting and constant movement on the court. But it wasn’t a dirty play that took him out.

i find it so funny that NBA fans say the game has gotten too soft but then when someone is a gritty player and plays hard they are called dirty. 10-15 years ago this sort of play was the norm but now everyone seems to frown uppon this hard style of play. its not that dellevodova is dirty its just that most of the others within the league are so soft.

he’s certainingly has made a name for himself this post season..his play has been vital to the team’s success….

as others have mentioned he’s not a dirty player..bill laimbeer and bruce bowen were dirty players….he’s an overly aggressive player that goes hard all the time….that style is what earned him a roster spot with the cavs…and what’ll earn him a contract this summer…

kyrie even admitted that he gets under his skin in practice..and they’ve almost fought….but he says that has made him a better player…

the cavs are leading 3-0 and could clinch the east title..thats amzaing considering they were underdogs going into this series..

as others have mentioned he’s not a dirty player..bill laimbeer and bruce bowen were dirty players….he’s an overly aggressive player that goes hard all the time….that style is what earned him a roster spot with the cavs…and what’ll earn him a contract this summer…

kyrie even admitted that he gets under his skin in practice..and they’ve almost fought….but he says that has made him a better player…

the cavs are leading 3-0 and could clinch the east title..thats amzaing considering they were underdogs going into this series..

He has heart. He does those pest moves as we have seen with Gibson last round. Far from a dirty player. Borderline dickhead but if that is what is gonna keep him in the league and get paid do it. And if you haven’t seen the Pistons with laimbeer then you don’t know playoff basketball.  They was dirty as hell.

      Absolutely.

He defends with his chest and chin, in game 3 after the horford incident, he took a pretty solid elbow to the chin from teague, play on, a knee to the face from bazemore, play on.

He bumps people, get bumped, he likes it…they don’t.

He don’t give of a shit of the bigs, he boxes them out like my marcus smart, except he’s no 225 pounder, he fights screens like fisher did for 15 years, a lot of shoulders involved in the process….

Chalmers comes to mind too, it seems you need those scrappy off guards, to be successful…

      Bowen was dirty…

I don’t think he’s dirty, but he’s reckless. There’s a way to hustle and play hard without being reckless. I’m trying to teach my seven year old this right now lol. Basketball players are sensitive when it comes to their knees, ankles, etc.

That’s three plays now that he has be involved in during the playoffs where he’s either leg locked, dove into/towards or fallen into someone’s legs.

He’s been huge for the Cavs though. You need players like him on your team. I think he and Thompson have been HUGE. They just outwork guys and always seem to want it more.
