Meditated StatesParticipantWho is the best defender of their position in the NBA?
PG Rondo
SG Wade
SF Artest
PF Garnett
C Dwight is the best shot blocker. Perkins covers the pick and roll better than him. Give it to Dwight but its closer than people think.Who is the best at each position to you?

Michael.S.Participantgood list, although i don’t think Wade is quite there YET, and I would say Duncan is the best on D at C

From_Downtown_33ParticipantShane Battier is a better defender than Artest. And Mickael Pietrus is a really good defender..

Meditated StatesParticipantI put a lot of Celtics on there, but them boys play D. My bad. Battier is serious too he drives Kobe crazy 4 sure I don’t know if he is better than Ron though. They are close.

zhgzsteinParticipantpg: Chris Paul, amazing defender, just a tiny bit better than Rondo
sg: Kobe, def. at sg, he can lock down anyone in the game, did you see when he played lebron in the reg. season?
sf: Artest, or Lebron when he wants to work hard
pf: Garnett: A beast, easily the best
c: Duncan if he qualifies at Center, if not, then Camby.1 thing about dwight howard, he is the defensive player of the year, and a presence. if defense was stats there would be none better, he dominates blocks and rebounds, but any true fan of the game, if you watch him play, realizes that he is really weak when it comes to help defense. He is also out of position a lot, and those two things greatly diminish his value. When it comes to potential defense he is number one, but he has a lot to learn about the game before he truly realizes his defensive potential

Meditated StatesParticipantDuncan was in the PF slot. I would go with him for center too. I just feel he normally plays the 4.

R-Dot-13ParticipantPG: Rondo
SG: Wade
SF: Iguodala
PF: Garnett
C: Howard0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/11/2009 - 5:07pm #199529
billykParticipantPG- Rondo (uses his long arms to harrass other PGs, picks up lots of steals, and he has the ability to play lockdown defense)
SG- Kobe (at the end of the game he picks up his intensity big time and he seems to enjoy going up aganist the top SG’s in the league)
SF- Battier (i like his hand in the face technique, he plays sticky man to man defense, and he is a great help defender)
PF- Duncan (has been anchoring SA defense for more than a decade, he is the reason the Spurs are always one fo the best defenses in the league)
C- Perkins (physical man to man defender and a true enforcer, plays with a nasty demeanor)0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/11/2009 - 5:41pm #199541
HaleParticipantI think Iggy plays the 2 (not sure) but he is a better defender then Wade and Kobe.

NYK2010ParticipantCan’t argue with this list
PG: Rondo
SG: Wade
SF: Battier
PF: Garnett
C: DuncanHoward is a better shot blocker than Duncan but one on one defense I’d take Duncan.
Kobe isn’t a great defender you see J.R. Smith and Carmello score on him in the playoffs. You can go back to the Celtics series when Pierce clearly outplayed him and Ray Allen scored on him frequently as well. Shutting down Kyle Korver, Lee, Alston and Bruce Bowen doesn’t make you great. He almost got hit for the game winning lay up by Courtney Lee end of Game 2 too.

Lemons4LifeParticipantHow is Kobe great!see Wade better because Wade always comes up with steals it seems like and no doubt probably the best blocking guard in the NBA.

Tobe BryantParticipantYALL HOLD UP PLEASE!!! I PROMISE YOU, IF YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING KOBE HIS WHOLE CAREER AND FOLLOWING HIS STATS THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT HE IS A GREAT DEFENDER WHEN HE CAN AFFORD IT. LATELY, WHEN HE HAS BEEN CARRYING THE LAKERS, HIS DEFENSE SUFFERED BECAUSE HE TOOK UP ALOT OF THE OFFENSIVE LOAD. KOBE WILL GET AFTER IT WHEN HE CAN. ASK ANYONE IN THE LEAGUE. ACTUALLY, LET ME SHOW YOU SOMETHING:

xbadgerhustlerParticipantTo me, Battier is flat-out the premier perimeter defender in the game… he, bowen, and KG play the mental game better than any others in the league

xbadgerhustlerParticipantsinkn3s… Kobe is definitely a solid defender, but not the best, IMO. you should watch Gilbert torch the lakers for- I think it was- 60… at first it’s smush guarding him, but then Kobe tries to take over but the onslaught continues… just makin sure ppl are seein him fail too. He takes a turn at about 57 secs, but then the real damage is done starting at about 1:25…

Kobe tries denying…Kobe gets a couple pull-up 3s in his grill… but my favorite was the catch-and-shoot and-1

billykParticipantI dont think ANYBODY wolud have stopped him that night, he was in the zone… As far was as Kobe as a defender I think he is a better on ball defender than Wade (Wade may be better off the ball)…. Carmelo scored on Kobe in the playoffs but alot of his shots were tough shots… In basketball a good offensive player can beat an equally good defensive player MOST OF THE TIME….
0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/12/2009 - 6:52am #199713
xbadgerhustlerParticipantkobe wasn’t even in his face for most of those shots… yes he was in the zone, but how many open shots can you give up before you’re not really playing that good of defense?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/12/2009 - 6:56am #199718
ckowalskiParticipantI think Kobe is better at playing the passing lanes than pressuring a shooter in man to man defense. He rarely guards the best player on the other team, they are usually putting a defensive stopper on him who has limited offensive skills so he has the luxury of playing off his man.

jordanrose13ParticipantWhy is Rondo being mentioned as best defensive PG by almost everyone? He got beat like a drum by Rose in the first round. I’d definitely go with CP3 over Rondo.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/12/2009 - 7:06am #199727
McWinningParticipantCp3 got shlaghtered even worse by Billups.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/12/2009 - 7:56am #199789
jordanrose13ParticipantYa, i guess your right. It’s really tough to find a PG who can guard every PG in the NBA now, because they’re all so diverse, you have the really small quick guys, big strong guys, and everyone in between. To throw out a name that hasn’t been mentioned, I think Westbrook has all the physical tools to be able to become a dominant defender, but I don’t think he’s tops in the league as a PG yet.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 08/12/2009 - 8:13am #199798
xbadgerhustlerParticipantI think Chauncey is WAY underrated for his d.
