Jr. ROXASParticipantOkay I don’t know why this hasn’t been posted yet but Deandre Jordan is a BEAST. He just posted his second straight monster 20-20 game in wins against 2 top Western Conference teams. This guy is underrated as hell. Even before these monster games, he’s been playing awesome the whole season. He knows his role in the team, which is to defend and rebound, and he does at an elite level. Right now, he’s like a rich man’s Tyson Chandler.
I’ve been rooting for him for 2 years now to be defensive player of the year because he’s such an integral part of a Clipper defense that has 2 awful defenders and one subpar one in the lineup. No one is really talking about this guy winning DPOY which I think partly is because he’s been underperforming this season. But other than Davis, who really deserves the crown. I think by default it should go to Jordan if the Pelicans don’t make the playoffs because of the sheer impact he has on the boards and on intimidating other players. He even averages about a steal a game.
On a sidenote, why isn’t this guy voted to the slam duk contest? I honestly think he and Zach Lavine could on their own revive the contest. No one in the NBA is ore athletic than Jordan IMO aside from Lebron. It’s crazy just seeing Deandre dunk highlights wherein he jumps so effortlessly but explosively and also runs the floor like a freaking deer. That while being 260 pounds.

BiggysmallsParticipantWait underrated? I think he gets plenty of credit and hype for what he does. He’s a terrific rebounder and does a nice job creating extra possessions but he’s not as amazing a defender as people seem to think. He’s big and athletic…that doesnt automaically equate to elite defender. He’s good but lets be real; if he played in Milwaukee, he wouldn’t get nearly as much hype as he does.
He’ll probably win DPOY because that is essentially an award reserved for big men in the NBA now and Howard/Noah have been hurt and Gasol just won it two years ago (I can’t believe I believe in voters fatigue for DPOY)

tblazer_NZParticipantNot trying to take away from this performances but the two teams he faced were missing their centres (Tyson Chandler was injured 1 minute into the game). Dallas had no one with any size guarding him. Al-Farouk Amin was guarding him for a long stretch for the game. Tyson Chandler wouldn’t have let him get 11 offensive rebounds. He also went against the undersized Houston front court due to Howard injury, they gave up 8 offensive rebounds and sent him to the line (26fta).
All that said he is more deserving as Davis’ place on the All Star team. He is playing great for the Clippers and they have needed him to.
DeAndre said himself that he would only be apart of the dunk contest if he made the All Start team.

tuck243Participanthe hasn’t improved his free throw shooting. Those are is only weaknesses on the court.
Let me be the first person to say that DJ is better offensively than people think. I vividly remember a couple of guys on this site (myself included) talking about how much DJ has improved posting up. When Doc Rivers arrived DJ was actually doing very well in the low post during the pre-season. He showed a nice hook shot over both shoulders. You could tell that he was working on his game. THEN Doc told him that they weren’t going to him offensively and he need to focus on defense. He actually agreed and now mostly get his points on lobs and put backs. I think someone need to take a chance on DJ and offer him a max contract. He might be a Carlos Boozer…Cavs to Utah…type of surprise.

King CaluchaParticipantI disagree. I recall him having a hook with a nice touch here and there, but he’s still way below average in low post moves. And believe me, nowadays that average bar is set really low.

sitlbitoParticipantNooooo way he’s underrated! He’s a bit overrated,he’s not that good on defense, fouls too much, players can finish with him at the rim. Terrific rebounder but a liability at the FT line(you’re underrating that):being good at the free throw line is a big part of Chandler,Gobert,Lopez,Noah and Hibbert’s game. He’s just not good there. ARICH MAN’S TYSON CHANDLER???? WHAAAAT??? A very poor man’s Tyson Chandler!
