ExumInfernoParticipantFor the first three years of their NBA careers, Miles and the Greek Freak have numbers that are nearly exact.
Around 47% from the floor and averages of around 10 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 block, 1 steal.
For points, Giannis is 10.8 to 9.4 to be exact but they are close in so many stats. Like Giannis, Miles was a long athlete that teams struggled to find a position for. Miles actually blocked more shots and fouled less, and Giannis isn’t a great free throw shooter but much better than Miles was at 57.7% early in his career. Giannis has averaged 29 minutes a game, for the same part of his career Miles was at 28.
Draft pick comparisons are difficult to make before one player plays in the NBA, but the stats show an interesting comparison based on the first three seasons they played in the NBA.

Memphis MadnessParticipantSo if the Bucks get the first pick then Ben Simmons is the next Lamar Odom with MCW being the next Shaun Livingston. Jabari Parker is the Duke one-and-done Corey Magette. Does that make Greg Monroe the Kandi Man?

For_Never_EverParticipantThe Greek Freak is more talented and skilled also better on the defensive end. He just completely can’t shoot making him less a threat from the field so players can play off him more.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantIf you look at the career stats yeah their first 3 years combined are similar- but Darius was pretty stagnate, averaging 9 points and 5 boards every year his first 3, whereas Giannis doubled his production from 6.8 to 12.7 between his first and second years, and has bumped his scoring up to 15.3 this year.
Not to mention their field goal %’s over their first 3 years are practically inverse, Giannis starting off at 40, climbing to 49 last year, and is sitting at 50 this year, whereas Darius started off shooting 50, went down to 48 in the second year and all the way down to 41 in his third year- all while scoring the same amount of points, indicating he couldn’t handle being leaned upon to score more points despite having an uptick in shot attempts, he couldn’t stay efficient.
Giannis is very much on an upward trajectory whereas Darius even before his injuries had stagnated as a good but not great player.

holefillers1ParticipantThats the problem with numbers. You can make them say whatever. When you are irresponsible you get comparisons like these.

HitsterParticipantGiannis is already averaging more PPG this season than Darius ever achieved in the best season across his whole career.
Darius sadly seemed to be a guy who was perhaps drafted too early and never really built on his early potential. We don’t know what he may have done if he hadn’t injured his his knee in 2005/06. He was associated as being part of the Jailblazers era in Portland and seen as not being a good guy to have around the locker room.
Z-Bo who was part of the same clique as Darius, successfully rebuilt his reputation to such and extent he made All Star games and is still going strong in the NBA at 34 years old, the same age as Darius is now.
I know we give the Greek Freak a lot of hype on here and he has a load of fans, myself being one of the biggest and some people may not see what all the fuss is about. But Giannis has only just turned 21 and is already in his 3rd NBA season, he looks like a draft steal and a lot of the fun is about him still growing and just how big he might end up.
Giannis still has a long way to go but he has the potential to have a long and successful career, he may not be the next European superstar but he can at the least be a rock solid starter and a defensive lock down with the upside to become a true star.

D7H7NParticipantYeah I’d like to see Miles cover half the court in two strides.
