tuck243ParticipantThese are all highlight videos. No, way an accurate assesment can be done with him. I can tell 2 things though. One, he’s not as athletic as people claim he is, he has an incredible first step that’s about it. He reminds me of MCW, but I think his form on his shot is going to enable him to be a good shooter.
And the MJ comparison? LMAO!!!

ChrispyParticipantHe IS as athletic as people claim he is. At Adidas Nations 2 years ago he dominataed. People were watching for up and coming Soph (now Senior/Frosh toe be) Ben Simmons and Exum stole the show. I mean, STOLE THE SHOW. His first step is awesome, but his athletcisim is off the charts. Westbrook is really his best athletic comp. That said, he has a WAY better feel for the game from a lead guard spot than Russell did at the same age (and I saw Russ Westbrook th esame amount byu this age). I really see Exum as having a ceiling that we don’t quite understand yet… but one worth investing in at the least.

Kevin6CDParticipantweren’t my basis for evaluation, they were what I put in the post to back up what I found to be his strengths. The other option would have been to put Givony’s evaluation video in, but then what would be the point of the post? As for the MJ comparison, laugh at anybody who ever compares any prospect to MJ.

roni3ParticipantI have seen a couple people compare him MCW, which is flat out wrong. MCW is not as explosive nor does he have the speed or quickness of Exum. All they have in common is their similar build and the fact they are taller point guards. In terms of skill set, at this point MCW is a pass first point guard who is a solid shooter and decent defender. While Exum is more of a combo guard who evenly passes and scores. He is capable of beating anyone off the dribble do to his insane first step and also moves and slashes off ball really well. His shot mechanics are good but he definitely has to work on his outside shot. It would be more accurate to say he is a less-athletic Westbrook without the crazy shot selection.

Kevin6CDParticipantExum to Brandon Roy. Roy was never a knockdown shooter from deep, but decent enough to keep defenders honest. Mid-to-high 20s Assist Rate to go with good scoring efficiency numbers and a pretty good rebounder for the guard spot. I think Exum might develop into a better shooter with time, but I think it’s a fairly accurate comparison for now.

benny15Participantive thought of the exum to roy comparison before, but came to the conclusion that one of them has a great first step and explosiveness while the other has never displayed that ability when he was playing in the league. i honestly havent seen enough of exum to know if he’s nearly as crafty with the ball in his hands to think of him and roy as simillar type of players.

Kevin6CDParticipantis just one of those guys where there really isn’t a clear-cut comparison. Any player people compare him to (MCW, Roy, etc.) isn’t a clear match. I think that makes him a little bit harder to project too. I do know that I’m exctied to see what he can do.

SpartanGloryParticipantAnybody think the sixers take Exum if they somehow get the third pick or lower? I kinda of like the idea of MCW and Exum playing together, then go for a big with their next pick.

Kevin6CDParticipanta huge upgrade at SG for the Sixers. I think they need shooting, but there really isn’t a wing worth taking in the range they’d be picking if they’re lower than 3rd. Exum just might even be able to give them that shooting if he can develop quickly, which his form suggests could be possible. Taking Randle would also seem to be an option though.

justymlParticipantDude he’s not Westbrook athletic and you should slap yourself if you compare exum to MJ then ask yourself again..I don’t think ppl understand how athletic westbrook is dude is a freak exum is solid but not a freak…Exum has a great first step so he’s gonna be able to get to the rim but he’s not gonna be able to explode and throw people in the rim like westbrook, rose, lillard, teague who all have both first step and vertical explosiveness and yes I said teague he catches bodies too..and i’m not sold on exum’s jumper so believe he’ll have too prove NBA defenders that he can shoot before they start to play up..I really like him tho his burst off the dribble is special he gets his jumper together and learns to run a team potential all star..Let him play first tho the media gives these kids too much pre-league hype which can destroy their careers

PlatypusParticipantI feel like this comparisson hasn’t been thrown out there but i think he’ll be everything Shaun Livingston was suppose to be. Shaun Livingston was athletic and was coming into his own and becoming better on a bad Clippers team until his horrible knee injury

King CaluchaParticipantHe may be close to elite athetic-wise. He has an inconsistent jumper but it’s close to being respectable. Not the greatest playmaker in the world, but he blows defenders by with his 1st step and then dishes or kicks the ball.
A taller John Wall … anyone like this comparison?

Kevin6CDParticipant2013-14 John Wall, then I absolutely do. I’m still under the impression that this is just a fluke shooting season for Wall, but that’s just the pessimist in me. I think Exum’s further along than Wall as a scorer. The only thing that really kept Wall afloat in his first three seasons was his high Free Throw Rate. Aside from that, struggled on both two and three point attempts because he was easy to guard because you could give him space. I think Exum will probably have similar scoring problems on two-point attempts early in his career, but I think he’ll be a better three-point shooter than Wall was early on.

OhCanada-ParticipantSeems to me from what Ive read footage of full games and highlights Ive watched that his game is uncomparable at this time. A team drafting him is drafting a canvas and painting thier own picture. What he projects as is a combo gaurd with elite size and athletic abillity for the position. Whether a team wants to mold him into a Westbrook, Rose type gaurd that is a score first PG that looks to penetrate for layups and floaters and keeps teams respectable with range, or a Jamal Crawford picking up alot of perimeter baskets with off the ball speed and a killer crossover, or even Demar Derozan utilizing a solid mid range game, post game and using his big body to get to the line it is all up to that team.

Rip255Dante Exum is 18 and most of the footage you have seen is when he was 17 years old. He’s still so young, but those questioning his athleticism are half-right. He’s not Westbrook athletic, nor is he Gerald Green athletic. But that’s like saying someone isn’t Yao-Ming tall or can’t shoot like Steph. I would say Kobe Bryant athletic (I seen them both do that between the legs dunk and looked amazingly similar). He’ll still be a regular on sportscentre top 10.

theballerwayParticipantI look at him as a longer (young version)Tony Parker. Hard to keep out of the paint because of that burst of speed, good at changing pace and attacking/squeezing into gaps. Same sort of handle (effective opposed to flamboyant) not a passing pg but a scorer who will hit the open man in penetration or faciltate the play. Not much of a shooter (guys that can get by anybody often arent though). Parker is or was as elite athletically in a below the rim sense.

tuck243ParticipantDoesn’t have elite level athleticism… He has an elite first step tho… He has long arms which make it seem like he’s up there, but he barely get his head to the rim… Remind me of Shabazz Muhammad as far as "elite explosiveness" meaning it’s not really elite… If you think MCW doesn’t have elite speed and quickness, I have Idaho beach front property for sale… I’ll give it to you for $1,000… Great deal…
