Dante Exum

For those interested in judging how Dante Exum is faring - he's playing Australian Schools Championship, which starts today. It goes for 4 or 5 days and Exum is expected to make a much-awaited decision on his future shortly after it is completed.

The competition isn't at the same level that you've seen him play against on youtube, however I'll post links to the box scores for each game.

As Australia’s strategic high

As Australia’s strategic high performance sport agency, the AIS is responsible and accountable for leading the delivery of Australia’s international sporting success.

Since 1981, the AIS has been the cradle of Australia’s national sports system — one that is recognised the world over for its ability to identify, develop and produce world, Olympic and Paralympic champions.

It's basically like a big

It's basically like a big campus, funded by the Government, with all kinds of sporting facilities, where athletes can train/live/study... The public can tour it, pretty fun to go there if you're into that sort of thing...

Australian Schools/Colleges don't have anywhere near the sports facilities/competition of those in the US, so it's up more left up to the Government to nuture the elite athletes...

Ah, so it's basically a college specifically for sports?

Who do they play? Other colleges and/or sporting institutes?

Not really

The problem is, the college sports scene (we call university here) is poor to non existent. There are no other institutes. For someone like Exum, being in the AIS would get him access to top coaches and training with the national team/program. That's about all we can do except for junior international competitions. Also, if they're good enough, they're often playing on the national team.

AIS

The AIS is a high performance unit for young people. Talented kids are targeted for their specific athletic abilities and they get customised coaching to help them maximise their abilities. It's run by the government and is geared more towards sports with an international profile (swimming, Olympic events etc).

The AIS is the reason that Australia has produced so many swimmers at the Olympic level for such a comparatively lower populated country (Ian Thorpe for example). It's the reason why Exum is being touted as a high draft pick from a country where basketball is mainly an afterthought.

Hope that helped.

Question to you rip255: Have

Question to you rip255: Have you seen Exum play a lot? What makes him so special in your eyes?Ive only seen him from the hoop summit, and while he looked good, its hard to say he looked like a future allstar.Plus i remember a time when the experts thought Andrew Harrison had a shot at being in the top 5...Heres an example:http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1762537-why-the-2014-nba-draft-is-so-much-bigger-than-andrew-wiggins-and-jabari-parker

Obviously after seeing him again college competition, the scouts have changed their tunes...

He stated after the game that he would make up his mind about his future in February.

Another 32 points

Exum scored 32 pts for the second day in a row, to go along with 7 rebs and 8 assists. He was 7/14 from 3pt range.

He is among the league leaders in pts and assists after 3 games. His team is presently undefeated and would be considered favourites to win the National Championship at this stage.

Hard to guage whether these performances have any bearing on his draft position though.
