This offseason was overshadowed by the Kevin durant deal but the Celtics walked away with the biggest offseason pickup in franchise history. Al Horford is a 5 star player who is going to have his best year ever. They also picked up Jaylen Brown a guy who is truly a mystery. He has a true NBA body, he’s 19 and he can get to the basket. He’s instantly the most athletic guy on the team. Next year we have Max money and don’t see us signing 2 max players but do see Utah not making the playoffs and Heyward opting out to reunite with his coach. Both have talked publicly about reuniting in the past. They also have the Nets pick and let’s say it’s Giles just going by the draft board. The Celtics will have added Horford and Heyward true NBA talents and two very promising rookies in Brown and Giles. The Celtics will then have max money again in 2018 and most likely another top 5 pick. Is Danny Ainge building the next Spurs? Heyward and Brown give you stardom and younger talent at the 3 spot also makes crowder tradeable. Horford and Giles would do the same at the power forward spot is where horford played in college. They are also all low ego guys which is exactly like the Spurs model. Many compare Stevens to popovich and it looks like the dynasty could be coming to the east.

Dude, so many things wrong with this post

    1) The Utah Jazz w/ their new additions combined with their familiarity with their current players can definitely add to a 50-win type season. Can’t see Hayward going anywhere considering he’s under contract til 2018. If he wanted to reunite w/ Stevens, he already would have.

    2) Al Horford just turned 30. Despite him still being “in his prime”, he won’t blow anyone away with his stats this year. I mean the dude can probably put up 15 PPG, 8 RPG, and 4-5 APG, which would be exactly what this Celtics squad needs. But his best year so far was probably 2014-2015, where he led his team to a 60-22 record. I really need my Celtics fans to calm expectations. We are probably going to end up with 48-49 wins and a three seed in the east. Which is not bad, but we are not anywhere near Cavs level yet.

    3) Everyone is talking about DA and his masterful Brooklyn Nets trade, but in all honesty, he got lucky. Not many people expected the Nets to be this bad, this early, considering the Celtics at the time, got Gerald Wallace and Marshon Brooks for KG, Terry, and Paul Pierce. That Nets “dynasty” of D-Will, JJ, the Truth, KG, and Brook Lopez was supposed to compete with the Heat for at least 1-3 years. Never happened due to injuries and chemistry issues. So let’s get off this master plan Danny Ainge stuff…the dude hasn’t really created too much buzz until this past offseason since 2010 when they had Nate Robinson and Shaq or in some people’s eyes way back in 08′

    1. heyward has a players option so he can opt out after this season. He’s only making 16 million and with guys like mozgov signing 14 mil a year you can guarantee he is opting out. He’s going to want max money and Utah has too many players to pay.                                                                                                                    2. Horford was a third option on a Hawks team. He’s now moving into a friendly offense and a bigger role he will average 20 no issue. His defense will also make us a beast with smart ab and crowder on the wings.

Okay, you’re right about the Player Option after this season, so he will probably opt out. As of right now, Utah has so many CAP friendly contracts that Derrick Favors is the next highest paid player besides Hayward at $12 mill a year. They will be available to offer the max and considering I don’t see a drop off, but an improvement, my guess is Hayward is staying put(I do know that he tried to sign with the Hornets last time he was a FA, but that was when Utah was just trash).

The D is going to be great, but the C’s are like 8-9 deep…can’t see Horford averaging more than the 15-16 PPG

The Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in one offseason, but you think signing Al Horford is “the biggest offseason pickup in franchise history”?

    No. Just no.

Going a little further back, they brought in Parish and McHale in 1980. That seems better too.

Hard to be building the next Spurs when most of the additions you are talking about are via outside of the organization.

The Spurs drafted Duncan, Parker, Ginobili and Leonard and turned guys who were basically thrown out like Diaw, Green, Bowen and so many others. They didn’t really ever dip their toes into the big FA waters until last summer with Aldridge.

Celtics seem to be star hunting – nothing wrong with that, but it’s not Spurs-ian at all. I like the track Ainge is on and I think its smart of him not to panic and make a big trade just for the sake of making a big trade. But it’s not the next Spurs.

Danny Ainge let his title winning Coach leave in 2013 so it was a risk bringing Brad Stevens in even with his outstanding college record. It was assumed the Celtics would go into rebuild and possibly look to put key players around Rondo.

Don’t forget Ainge also took a big risk in trading PP who was a franchise legend and a Celtic all his career, the rebuild has gone perfectly for him. Already a top 4 side out East, good FAs added, young talent trafted, loads of trade ammo if needed.
