I just randomly wanted to know everybody’s take on Daniel Gibson, I’ve always liked him as a player. He hasn’t been playing much cause of injury. But I think if he can get into a good situation he can produce. I remember him being productive in his rookie year in the playoffs then he just kinda died out after his 3rd season. Does anybody think he can be a starter in this league?

never a starter but the off the bench bomber role suits him perfectly if they get him next to a big star again who causes consitent double teams. If Boobie gets back on a team with that kind of personnel and he’s right back where he started in Cleveland his rookie year playing next to Lebron.

He still mad Lebron left Cleveland and is jealous of Chalmers.

If you wanted a Hollinger, just ask.

+ A 2 in a 1’s body. Fairly quick and an excellent outside shooter.

+ Improved distributor and penetrator. Horrid finisher at basket. Poor rebounder.

+ Size a negative on defense, especially as a 2. Tough and competes.

While Rome burned around him, Gibson had his best pro season, boosting his scoring to 16.7 points per 40 minutes and also setting career highs in assist ratio and rebound rate. Gibson was much more aggressive rather than just relying on spot-up 3s, boosting his free-throw rate and taking a lot more 2s. While the scoring jump is the headliner, his improvement as a distributor shouldn’t be overlooked; long viewed as inadequate in this area, Gibson was fourth among shooting guards in pure point rating.

The one disappointment was his inability to convert shots at the basket. Gibson shot a pitiful 39.6 percent at the rim; to understand how awful this is, every other player with at least a hundred attempts shot 50 percent or better except one, and that guy shot 49.6 percent. Gibson was a full 10 points worse. Amazingly he shot better on 3s (40.4 percent) than at the basket.

Defensively, Gibson fights, but toughness doesn’t make up for being a 6-foot-2 shooting guard. He needs to be in situations where he can switch men with the point guard; Baron Davis and Kyrie Irving may be big enough to allow that to happen. You can see the results on 82games.com — Gibson surrendered an 18.3 PER to opposing shooting guards, but only 14.8 to point guards.

TomShoe’s Take: Another undersized 2 guard. Yawn. I hate to be such a downer, but undersized 1.5s are a dime-a-dozen in this league. You’d have to be someone like Lou Williams, who can really fill it up, in order to stick for a long time. While I like Boobie’s ability to assist, his inability to finish at the rim a la Kyrie Irving really holds him back.

I don’t know what seperates Gibson from Jimmer besides experience and opprotunity.
