festar35ParticipantHow good can Lillard become? I cant think of a PG that has his shooting touch and athletic ability. I mean he isnt the shotter Curry is or the athlete Westbrook is but he is a good balance and could be very lethal in another year or two.
Can he reach the level of top 10 player in the NBA?

For_Never_EverParticipantI don’t think so.
He is very well balanced on offense being able to do everything well. Except he isn’t elite at any one thing though. A top 10 player in the league will cetainly have at least one thing they do or bring that is elite.
I’m not sure why he is bad as he is on defense, it seems every pg can blow by him easily. The other thing he isn’t a cerebral guard, watching him I don’t get any kind sense he makes the players around him better. He isn’t a dyamic play maker at the same time he isn’t a deadly offensive player too.

XYRYXParticipantI don’t agree with you here. He is an elite shooter in my opinion. He may not be a Russel Westbrook kind of athlete but he gets anywhere on the court he wants. His stepback jumper imo is a pure beauty and right with Hardens the most beautifull in the league, Currys is fine also but the stepback from Harden and Lillard truely is beatifull to watch.
On the other hand Lillard is very realiable and already pretty consistend if you think he is just playing his 2nd season. Finally I really don’t know whats his potential but I have no doubt he will be all right in the long run. The fact that he already came into the league with excelent long ball shooting opens the game for him and he has room to create. I agree that he might no be a true pass first point guard but to be honest most of this eras elite point guards aren’t that and most of them aren’t asked to be that. I followed Lillards stats over the season and his long ball isn’t falling right as he was 1 of 11 today from three but this doesn’t mean he can’t knock it down consistantly.
The Marbury comparison is not so far off but I think Lillards shot is already better and what I like most about his game is that he always seems to play in control and changing the game speed like he wants – just like Billups.

benny15Participanti read somewhere that he worked with gary payton in the offense to improve his defense. now i dont know if he can reach the glove’s level of defensive capabilities, but to me, if he wants to become a better defender, he should take mike conley’s route and become a game tape addict. conley doesnt really poses the physical attributes of russel westbrook or rajan rondo, but he can more than hold his own defensively because he’s very smart and studies his opponents and their tendencies. he looks for the lapses in the offense where he can exploit a mistake and stay within his team’s defensive system when theres none. his rebounding and steals number should have an upward spike as well. so if lilard can become a simillar type of defender, i think his status in the league could raise.
on offense though, he already posses a good shot, handles, speed and athletic abilities. he mixes them up which allows him to score in a variety of ways. for him to enter elite category though, he would have to continue to hone his streangths to the point that they enter automatic teritory. as mentioned earlier, most of the top players or even point guards are seen as having a craft that they master. wheather its tony parker’s floater, derrick rose’ finishing at the rim, chris paul’s free throw line jumper, etc. each of them has a bread and butter move that they would go to that has a high probability of dropping despite the defense knowing what they would want to do.
for damian lillard, id honestly feel that he should work on his one dribble mid range pull-up. i honestly feel that he can and should elevate it to sam cassel’s level when he was playing. if he can do that, then it would open up his slashing, outside shooting and passing even more. taking more mid-range shots would decerease his 3point attempts and should raise his FG% because it would mean that he would only take really great looks from deep.
his passing is something i would wish he would get better at but looking at him and the blazers play, he’s really more suited serving as a tony parker scoring point type player than he is a chris paul set up guy. its the dynamics of his team as well since they use batum as a point forward type player and his team feeds of damian better when he is scoring in bunches.

capshati23ParticipantHe reminds me of chauncey billups lead guard solid ball handling skills anod can shoot from deep i see that as being his potential which is pretty good considering the fact that billups is a nba champjion and finals mvp and a multiple year allstar

WITNESS2014ParticipantI don’t see him as a top 10 player, but an all star or borderline all star each year. He isn’t on Westbrook, Paul, or Parker’s level but in the same area as Curry.

jwall1ParticipantHe can get better, but I feel like his ceiling is limited due to his poor perimeter defense and his average passing ability. He is a great shooter, and a good offensive player in general, but I just feel his ceiling is not as high as Wall or even Irving. If he wants to get to the next level he needs to become a better passer and defender.

fito91ParticipantHe has all the physical tools and skill set to one day be considered in the elite category with guys such as Paul and Westbrook. Just needs to work on his defense and consistency. He’s a scoring point guard so he’ll never average 10 assists per game, but I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say he could be a 24-25 ppg player.
