I May Be WrongParticipantD-wags = Dajuan Wagner for anyone who didn’t know lol
But I think he would have been a prolific scorer in the league. He averaged about 14 a game in his rookie season and unfortunately, he had all that bad luck so he didn’t pan out. If all things being equal and he wasn’t hurt/infected or whatever, I think he would have been a consistent 20 ppg scorer. Matter of fact, he would have been a Monta Ellis in my mind and maybe have some seasons where he would average 25 a game. He probably wouldn’t be a great PG and average a lot of assists or steals but he would provide that scoring punch coaches look for.

Memphis MadnessParticipantYou mean DaJuan Wagner? Pretty good if he was healthy but a volume scorer,
not a pure shooter. Wasn’t a pure shooter at Memphis but he might have been hurt/sick by then.
I think he would have been a great scorer off the bench like a faster, shorter OJ Mayo. Maybe like a poor
man’s Russell Westbrook. He was only about 6’0 but more of a shooting guard than a point guard. Ball dominant, and I am not sure how he would have fit in with LeBron even if he had been healthy. If he hadn’t have gotten hurt/sick he would still be in the league. Maybe not an all-star but a good 3rd/4th option or
a premier 6th man. His game was a little like Kemba Walker’s predicated on scoring ability and driving with a mixture of speed and strength. Kind of like Jimmer but without the great shot but faster and more athletic.0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/10/2011 - 12:13pm #567741

Memphis MadnessParticipantI can see the Monta Ellis comparison. Juanny was a big time scorer, trapped in a point guards body with an erratic shot although he
could really heat up. Great range, but streaky.0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/10/2011 - 12:37pm #567771

NJHooper95ParticipantWag was not a bad shooter. He wasnt pure but he was no where near bad.His shot selection could be bad because he would shoot from too deep sometimes. Wagner had tremendous range on his jumper similar to J.R Smith. He was a physical guard, very strong, quick, and a very good but not great athlete. He was a good one on one player and a underrated passer. Wag would not be consider a defensive-minded person. His offense was his defense. He was undersized for the two-guard
I think if the offense was geared towards him, he would have been an all-star caliber player. He was on pace at once point in his rookie season, to be the youngest player ever to average 20plus ppg. The Monta Ellis comparison is good. Monta was also a prolific scholastic scorer.I also see Iverson, bigger, better shooter, but not as fast.
I have met Wagner and I have seen him play in person at least 6-7 times and watched countless games on tv. Wagner is the leading scorer in New Jersey High School Basketball. The record was almost 40 years old held by John Somogyi. John is a legend and he saw wagner and his words were " I seen Magic in High School, I saw Kenny Anderson in High School, but this Kid is the best scorer of any player to ever play High School Ball.

llperezHe was on pace to average 20 a game his rookie year? He played in 47 games total and averaged 13 points. Was that pace for like the first 2 weeks of the season? He shot 37% from the field as a rookie and that was actually his highest shooting season in his very brief career . His 1 year at memphis he shot 41% from the field and 31 % from the college 3. ANd those are just stats, not that those are important. I watched him play and he was a sub par shooter period any way you want to dice it. If you could keep him out the paint he wasnt gonna dominate.

llperezdepends on how you defein sub par. ROndo is a terrible shooter. Wagner wasnt even close to rondo in that reagards. But he wasnt scaring anybody from the outside. %’s are not everything, but when you shoot poorly at every single level outside of highschool, its hard to justify its just a coincidence. And like i said, i watched him play, his shot needed work. He was sub par.

NJHooper95ParticipantHis numbers sunk after some nagging injuries which caused him to only play 47 games. So thats why he ended up with 13plus per game. He barley played after his rookie season so that means nothing. Shooting pct doesnt tell everything. Al Harrington shot 40% for 3pt land one season, is he a better 3pt shooter than Ray Allen who shot around 38pct that same season. Rose has a higher fg pct than kobe. Is Rose a better shooter than Kobe? Subpar shooter, no way. Like I said he wasnt pure, but he could shoot the ball. You make it sound like he had a jumper like Rondo.

NJHooper95ParticipantHe didnt play long enough in the pros for you to determined that he was a subpar shooter. Memphis he was the only scorer, he was forced to take difficult shots, yet he average over 21ppg and won the NIT that year when they should have made it to the NCAA. Im sorry man you dont average 42ppg as 6 foot 6/1 guard on the high school level by being a subpar shooter and playing quality competition. But hey this is something we can disagree and debate about so its all good.

llperezyour right you cant really gauge his shooting numbers in the nba, but 3 injury riddled years and he never shot well. I mean even injured, if you are healthy enough to get on the court, you should be able to shoot it. And its more silly to dismiss his 3 sesons in the nba and 1 season of college and instead go simply by highschool numbers. And there is a big difference between being able to shoot the ball in highschool vs against pro level comp. I mean i just looked up his shooting stats in europe, and his brief stint in poland in 2008 he shot 35% from the field. At some point in his life he needed to shoot well for me to think he was a good shooter, and highschool is not that point. I know guys who can light up open runs in gyms, but it doesnt men they are good shooters at the nba level.
