    • Blake Ahearn set a record from the free throw line in a 116-104 loss by Reno to Rio Grande Valley.Ahearn went 5-for-5 from the free throw line to have made 99 consecutive free-throws, a mark better than the NBA record of 97, set by Michael Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1993

    • The Maine Red Claws announced that they have waived Ricky Davis. Davis averaged 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 11 games played for the Red Claws.

    • The comeback of Greg Ostertag has come to an end after 10 D-League games due to knee pain.

"I could barely move (after Reno)," Ostertag said "I felt good there and I played good. I get out there and sometimes I do get loose, but usually the ‘don’ts’ are longer than the ‘dos.’ It sucks, but I knew going into this what could happen."

Ostertag averaged 4.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 13.3 minutes in 10 games with Texas.

"I regret quitting when I did," he said about when he retired from the NBA in 2006.

Ostertag thought he played some good minutes with the Texas Legends.

"But I just can’t move the way I need to," he added. "These guys are young and fast. Some of them were just getting out of diapers when I came into the league."

    • The Fort Wayne Mad Ants announced today that they have hired Christian Laettner as their assistant coach pending a background check. He will be working full time with Mad Ants head coach, Steve Gansey, who was recently promoted to the position.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Mad Ants organization! I am very excited and looking forward to working with the players, staff and organization as an assistant coach,” said Laettner. “The opportunity to work closely with developing players to improve their game and make it to the next level has always been a goal of mine. Many thanks to Jeff Potter and the Mad Ants organization for giving me this opportunity — go Mad Ants!”

Devin Brown Is Latest NBA Vet To Sign With D-League

The NBA Development League had quite the week leading up to the annual D-League Showcase as players flocked to the NBA’s official minor league to get extra eyes on them as representatives from all 30 NBA teams flocked to lovely Reno, Nev., for the annual scouting event.

It’s been one week since the Showcase was completed, however, and the NBA veterans continue to sign with the D-League in hopes of showing talent evaluators that they’re in shape. The latest, according to league sources, is eight-year NBA veteran Devin Brown.

Brown is no stranger to the D-League as the 6-foot-5 swingman won the league’s MVP and Rookie of the Year awards in 2003 before embarking on a fairly successful trip to the NBA. The former Fayetteville Patriot has fallen on hard times as of late, however, as he was cut earlier this year in Poland after sitting out all of last season as a free agent.

Jeremy Lin messed around and gets a triple-double in the D-League for the Erie BayHawks on Friday night.

Jordan Williams Solid, Not Spectacular, As Nets Rookie Makes D-League Debut

Jordan Williams probably hasn’t had the start he planned on for his professional career, but the New Jersey Nets‘ second round pick seems to have the potential to be an NBA contributor sooner rather than later. For now, however, the 20-year-old power forward will have to settle on getting his feet under him while playing in the NBA Development League.

The Nets made a few moves earlier this week that affected the D-League as they called up Larry Owens, released former Springfield Armor standout Dennis Horner and assigned the aforementioned Williams to their D-League team. The Nets haven’t played since Owens was called up and Horner didn’t clear waivers in time to join the Armor on Thursday night (though he was in attendance), however, leaving Williams as the de facto prospect to watch.

It didn’t start out pretty for the 6-foot-9 power forward, but the former Maryland Terrapins big man eventually was able to find a groove as his Springfield Armor pulled out a 93-91 victory over their rival Maine Red Claws. Williams did his part in the win by scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while struggling through a 7-of-17 shooting effort.

I find it so hard to get excited about any of this lol.

A pity about Ricky Davis though, I wanted him to light up the d-league.

Happy Birthday to my good friend from high school TJ Campbell playing for the Canton Charge. Small guard with a big ups and a true floor general.
