current nba players who will have their numbers retired by a team
i was reading the topic about steve nash and that got me to thinking how the suns will surely retire his number one day. So who else out there is going to have their jerseys retired and by who? Obviously its hard to specualte on guys who have less then 8-9 years in the league so lets leave the kevin loves, blake griffins etc out of this for now.
also, does billups get retired in detroit? Kidd in new jersey? KG/allen in boston? Shaq in miami?
Feel free to add whatever questions about potnetial retired numbers you might have as well.
Kidd's will get retired in Jersey for sure IMO; back-to-back Finals appearances gotta count for something.
Shaq in Miami won't happen, he won a ring there but his stint was just too short.
If the Celtics can win a ring this year (I know I'm dreaming) then KG/Allen get retired in Boston, and obviously KG will get retired in Minnesota. If KG returns to Boston for a small deal and finishes his career there then his chances of being retired increase.
As an aside, does anyone else think it's possible that KG signs in Minnesota for the vets minimum and finishes his career there? Add KG to that mix, find a decent SG through FA/trade and give Williams more minutes at the SF and you'd have a team capable of cracking the top 4 in the West next season IMO.
pp, nowitzki, wade, nash, dwight howard, duncan, parker (maybe), ginobli (maybe)
pistons - ben wallace, billups and hamilton will all have their numbers retired...
If the pistons have Vinnie Johnson's jersey hanging from the rafters I am sure Ginboli and Parker will be retired in San Antonio also...
Also not sure where Melo and Amare will get their jerseys retired...
The Lakers organization already stated they were going to retire Shaq's jersey. Not sure when exactly.
I bet he perfers it that way too. Ray Allen too.
I know it hasn't been 8 or 9 years yet, but I guarantee no one will ever wear number 1 for the Bulls again. The MVP award all but assured that. Plus, you know he is never leaving here.
Mavs will retire Dir;'s Jersey for sure ,Jet probably (and I hope so) and may be Kidd (but I don't think he deserve that although I haven't watched him in his early years
There is some obvious names,Manu ,TD&TP in SAS
Kobe in LALA and may be Pau too
@ omphalos ,I was thinking about KG signing back for Minnesota ,ends his career with the team he started his career with and probably making a last play off appearance is an good ending for him
For sure Jason Kidd's jersey will be retired at New Jersey... No one has made the Nets relevant other than him...
Kobe for obvious reasons..lol
Yao Ming with the Rockets...
Do the Lakers retire 24 and 8 or just 24 even tho he won more rings wearing 8....
Paul Pierce- Boston
Dwayne Wade in Miami IF he stays there until he retires. Remember he's 30 years old now, he'll be retiring soon lol
Kobe will be the first player in history two have two jerseys retired... TRUST ME... 8 and 24
T-Mac should get the Houston Rockets #1 jersey in the rafters. This would be a better tribute, than what he is seeking in a HOF ballet, because of his injury history.
Nash(PHX), KG(MIN), Kobe, Pierce, Dirk, Kidd( NJ & Dallas), Wade, Chauncey(Detroit), Lakers already announced Shaq is getting his retired next season. Even though Rose is young if his career ended today I'm sure his number would be retired. Youngest MVP, won ROTY, All-NBA, and All-Star appearances. Hometown kid on top of that.
Kobe- Lakers #8 and #24
LeBron- Cavaliers #23 and Heat #6
Tim Duncan- Spurs #21
Paul Pierce- Celtics #34
Derrick Rose- Bulls #1
Steve Nash- Suns #13
Dirk Nowitzki Mavs #41
Kevin Durant Thunder #35
Ben Wallace Pistons #3
Dwayne Wade Heat #3
Carmelo Anthony #15 Nuggets and #7 Knicks if he ends up being successful there
IDK if Denver likes Melo enough to retire his #, he didn't reach the finals, The team is arguably better w/o him ,and he went out on bad terms. He was a perennial star while there but thats like saying houston retires TMAC and as good as he was I can't see it.
Dont forget Iverson with the sixers.
I think if KG and Allen deserve to have their jersey retired with the Celtics than surely Ginobli and Parker should have their's retired with the Spurs.
Ill throw some possble ones that are yet to be determined
Luol Deng has an outside shot if the Bulls get a title or more and he stays a Bull for the whole Rose era
Chris Bosh will have his retired with Miami if they win a few titles
If Lamarcus Aldridge is a lifetime Trailblazer I could see his getting retired.
Does Pau Gasol get his retired if he remains a Laker?
If Yao Ming deserves his retired, than I would think T-Mac deserves so also
Blake Griffin and Durant will most likely stay put for a long time and will be in the banners
what about KG as a timberwolf?
What do you think are Kidd's chances of getting retired as a Mav as well. We seem to all think NJ but he was pretty good in the Mavs title run.
What do you guys think?
Does the Hornets owe it to CP3 to retire his #? He was a major contributor to the franchise turning around during a tough time in New Orleans.
If we are talking recently retired players then I'll throw in Big Z at Cleveland, he played there for 14 years and was an All Star plus he has just returned to the Front Office so he must be well liked there and they could see fit to reward him.
Also if we are mentioning Detroit players then Prince could be a wildcard as he has spent his entire career there and was part of all their uns to the Conference Finals and beyond between 2004-08.
I feel that the Spurs will certainly do Parker and would hope they do Manu.
Would Philly consider Iggy in due course if he remains there I wonder, the Pacers could they do JO?
Looking on the net, the following teams have never retired a number -
Charlotte Bobcats, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors.
I think The Raptors have to retire Vince Carter's # 15 and The Magic should retire Penny's # 1 and Shaq's # 32, along with Howard's # 12 ...The Clippers should retire Brand's # 42 and The Bobcats should retire Micheal Jordan's jersey just for kicks...
The question regarding Kobe's number 8 and 24 has been asked several timees. From what I gather, it's a strong possibility that they hang 24 and simply don't allow anyone else to wear 8, but not hang it. Kobe has stated several times that for someone to wear 8 in LA, they will have to pry it away from his lifeless fingers. But that if they could earn it by outdoing or AT LEAST matching what he did as 8, then he'd be able to accet it.
everyone is saying Boston is going to retire Ray Allen's number, but wouldn't the Bucks retire it first?
i think a few too many names are being thrown out there. I think retiring a jersey should be something significant and should only happen for guys who had a true impact on a team and were star players who did a lot for a franchise.
Some names i've read on here i disagree with:
hamilton, prince, wallace for detroit(billups could get it since he was probably the teams most important piece on those title runs. ALthough detroit is the franchise that retired vinnie johnson's number so maybe they dont hold quite as high a standard.
tmac houston. I just dont think he was there long enough or won enough. Hes a phenomanal talent, but he split his prime with orlando and houston and might not have done enough for either franchise to warrant being retired for either.
ray allen for the bucks. DOnt see it happening. Add big Z for the cavs, brand for the clippers for the same reasons. I also doubt carter gets retired by the raptors. He left on bad terms and i doubt the franchise wants his jersey reminding them every day about how he quit on them.
some guys im really not sure about: penny(orlando), cp3(hornets), melo(nuggets), Kidd(mavs).

L0VE this idea. KG c0uld play C/PF and pr0vide interi0r D, vet presence, and leadership...all things Minny needs.
I really dont know why people complain about the twolves Lack of a SG. I mean how many GOOD SG's are there in the NBA? If i'm the wolves w/ all that talent, you don't need a stud (monta, harden) you just need a specialist like Chi or Memp (Brewer,Allen). Keith Bogans is still out there isn't he? Bulls had a great run w/ him in the lineup. He brought toughness,D, and knocked down the open 3. SMH he should still have a job in the L.
and Deng retired? haha no way! he was lucky he got an AS bid. San Antonio F'd up by retiring Bruce Bowen now every1 thinks they have a chance at the rafters.
I find the fact that no one has mentioned Brian Scalabrine a huge offense.
