The8thDeadlySinParticipantI know, I know, another CP3 trade rumor but this one really caught my eye because I have always wanted to see Paul with Howard…
Supposedly:
Magic get:
Paul
PoseyHornets get:
Nelson
CarterIDK if that is a good trade or anything but it was rumored.. Carter has a 17.7 million dollar contract coming off the books next summer and Nelson makes around half what Paul makes a year.. That would help the Hornets get under the cap like they have been trying to do.. Also, Posey gives the Magic a SF to replace Barnes and gives them Paul, who is the ultimate mate for Howard..
Anyone think this could come true?? Also, if it did, who wouldnt want to watch the Magic??

knicksfan7ParticipantOn paper it makes a lot of sense, and they would be a fun team to watch, the magic. Though, draft picks must be added, and maybe some more players. Chris Paul is a franchise player a 2 for 2 deal isn’t happening. I am not putting down the trade, but the Hornets have to get more.

SteroidParticipantAlthough looking at the underlying benefits the Hornets would get with freeing cap space, they are going to want draft picks in that trade also. I think the team that wins in this trade is the Magic regardless of the draft picks they might have to give up.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe Hornets aren’t going to trade Chris Paul for cap relief.
Nelson isn’t 10% of the point guard Paul is and VC is no longer an elite player. This would be a terrible trade for the Hornets.

PlatypusParticipantthe offer the nets made earlier was better,
they offered
3rd pick
Harris

PlatypusParticipantthey have to throw gortat for them to take that

IndianaBasketballParticipantEven with VC, Nelson and Gortat… Trade would STILL be awful. Other than Dwight Howard, the Magic don’t have anybody worthy enough to be traded for Chris Paul.

d-grizzlyParticipantThis would be cap relief for the Hornets if it happend. I do not believe the trade will happen.
Also, I wouldn’t say nelson’s an elite point guard, but i wouldn’t say he’s not 10% the point guard paul is either.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantPaul,Peja and Posey…For…Carter,Nelson,Pietrus and Gortat…
Hornets clear tons of cap and get a Starting 5…Nelson,Carter,Peitrus,West and Gortat…Okefor on the bench…pick a guy like Henry at 11 to replace Vince in a year…the Magic pair Cp3 and Sups’..still have Lewis and Shooters in Peja and Barnes…Posey for D…Bass for Boards…they’ll have to get a young off guard to run with the team but I’ feel like they could trade Ryan anderson for a Lance or Jordan Crawford

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’m just being honest… Nelson can’t do anything better than or probably even equal to Chris Paul.

d-grizzlyParticipanti’ll agree with that bbd

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantNot sure why the Hornets would want Nelson if they’re going to give over the keys to their offence to Collison. Players like Ryan Anderson and Mickael Pietrus would make more sense from a needs perpective.
A quick perusal of the ESPN trade machine let me know that this would work salary wise:
Magic get:
Chris Paul
James Posey
Morris Peterson
Julian WrightHornets get:
Vince Carter
Mikael Pietrus
Ryan AndersonObviously a bunch of picks would have to be thrown in for this to work, but the salaries do make sense. Obviously the odds of the Magic getting CP3 are close to zero but as a Magic fan this sort of talk excites me. Its good to know that our front office is willing to look at anything in order to upgrade this team.

mauistyle01ParticipantEveryone keeps talking about cap space, but guess what, everyone wanted cap space for this year so they could go after this once in a generation free agent crop. A team like the Hornets, that is already under the cap or right next to it, doesn’t need to open up 20 million for next year when, a decidedly less-important group of players will be the ones signing new deals.
I know cap space became the biggest issue these past few years, but that was all leading up to this point. And, yeah, there are still teams that will trade for cap space, but not by giving up a player as good as Paul.

ZeroParticipantIf this trade were to happen, the Magic would have to take one of the Hornets’ bad contracts.
