Personally, I’m really sick of many teams changing their jerseys every few years nowadays.  I understand it from a marketing and sales standpoint or the whole entering a new eara idea, but I think the vivid memories of the NBA as I was growing up have attached certain teams to particular jerseys.  I loved the whole early 90’s cartoon graphic type jerseys like…

The Raptors with the raptor image on the front, the Vince Carter days.

The Pistons with that teal, orange, and black and the horse with the pistons, the Grant Hill days.

The Bucks with that purple jersey with the buck on the front (one of my fav of all time), the Ray Allen days.

The Jazz with the mountains in the back, the Stockton/Malone days.

The rockets one, the Steve Francis days…you get my point.

Or even back in the day when the NBA was in the golden days with the Hawks iconic jersey that Wilkin was rockin in the dunk contest.

Many props to teams like the Bulls, Celtics, Spurs, Knicks, and Lakers for never going to far away from the original concepts.  I don’t hate all the new jerseys, I would just like to see teams give time for some history to be associated with a certain jersey.

See, I disagree.  I’m much more of a fan of teams reverting back to modern versions of a more classic style.  I was not a fan of all the cartoon style or pinstripe happy late 90’s jerseys where teams altered their colors and came up with cartoon mascots to put on their jerseys (I especially hated the horse on the late 90’s teal Pistons jerseys) and I love that the Jazz, Rockets, Pistons, Warriors, Rockets and others went back to the more classic look and original team colors.

Well as much as I do like the 90s cartoon style, I also like the older jerseys.  I’m just not a fan of chaning them up constantly.  Stick with something for a minute and let history build around it.

I loved the classic jerseys as well, but I’d just like to see teams stick with a concept for longer than 3 seasons.

I respect ur opinion tho Joe.  Do you like the teams changing uni’s every few season though.  Logos as well?  That’s my main problem.

My favourite jerseys are the Bulls and Celtics. They are a classic, iconic design without looking out-dated which just has more character than say, the Orlando Magic jersey.

I agree with you on the constant change part M-DYMES, that does get old and it’s kinda hard to keep up with. I also agree with what you said about the Bulls, Spurs, Knicks, Celts, and Lakers.  That is team identity right there.

I was also not a fan of the Spanish jerseys this year.  I just didn’t get it, especially since they didn’t even use proper Spanish in favor of some weird Spanglish team names.  If your gonna try to appeal to a Latin American crowd, great, thats fine, but Los Bulls and El Heat??? Just put Los Torros or El Calor, I doubt that ploy actually appealed to anyone fluent in Spanish.  I’ve only taken a few years and i thought it was awful.

It’s an interesting balance from a marketing perspective.

A team that changes jersey every 2 years might get a boost to jersey sales at first, but as they establish that pattern they lose the trust of the fans. People aren’t going to buy a jersey if it’s only good for 2 years.

Likewise, look at the older teams… Knicks, Celtics, etc. have an established brand and it would be stupid to change too much. Paying full price for a Pierce Celtics jersey really isn’t that bad an investment, is it?

Changing jersey every 2 years will backfire.

I wish Orlando would go back to the old schools, those were just so sick. Also Houston, like the original Hakeem days. and the best of all, the old school nuggets, doesn’t get any better

it seems like some of these teams don’t want to build there own identities,

some of my favorite jerseys are the new look ones that don’t stray to far from the classics Ex: the Lakers,

but there are times when a team just needs a fresh start!

I’d like to add that the new Timberwolves black jersey’s are definitely a step up from what they’ve had before in my opinion, at least one case where an update was for the best.

Now the old Denver jersey is just ugly, but anyways, I loved the old sixers logo. I dont know why they changed it. Also as a Warriors fan, i liked the old jerseys, but the new ones are even better. I liked the blue cleveland ones during the Lebron era, and to go of topic, the alternative blue and white dallas cowboy uniforms.
