Congrats to Kevin Durant
I don't know if I missed the topic already, but I just wanted to say that I'm really happy for KD. He was so humble and appreciative in his MVP acceptance speech. I'm a big LeBron fan, but to see KD win it is definitely alright by me. Here's the video. If you have ten minutes, it's worth the watch.
i honestly thought he'd have a higher avg since he scored40 points 14 times and went 41 consecutive 25pt games: somewhere like kobe or jordan in ther best scoring years... but whatever, scoring champ and MVP? that's a stud right there.
Also, anyone else think this is a good "rebound" for the team, after that blowout by the clips? with his speech alone you could sense the comraderie, trust and chemistry increasing with each sentence he said... i think this came a great time for the thunder as a team. maybe KD might come out guns blazin for the next game, feeling rejuvinated, you know?
I dont know about anyone else, but this level of candor, emotion, and appreciation for everyone that helped him get this far, and how he had to overcome lots of confidence problems (it wouldn't surprise me if he battled with depression), makes him my favorite athlete. For all the respect I have for him on the court, my compassion for his humanity is many times more.
Watching it again, I'm struck by how touched he is by his teammates belief in him. As unbelievably skilled as he is, he seems be most touched by his teammates words of encouragement at his worse. He seems prone to self doubt, and truly believes that its only by the belief of his teammates and family that he can be the player he is. For a player that's led the NBA in total points 5 straight years, hes remarkably unselfish as a person.
It's really cool how humble and appreciative he is. Great dude and great basketball player.
..but I really started tearing up when he started to talk about his mom. Just pure emotion coming out, saying his mom is the real MVP. Just awesome, he deserves the award and I respect this guy even more.
