I read nbadraft.net's scouting reports on Cody Zeller and Kevin Love. There have been multiple reports on Zeller becoming a 7-foot stretch four, though I think we all can agree the high post would be optimal for him. The point is that their scouting reports are extremely similar in their good but predictable post moves, ability to hit jumpers, their rebounding ability, and their basketball IQ. Do you all think he can reach K-Love status?
I guess I see the similarity aspects you just named. But honestly Zeller does not seem to have the drive or ambition to be great. Kevin Love might not always be the most athletic or skilled player on the court but he plays like he doesn't know that. This guy is relentless on the boards and his 3 point shot is pure. I highly doubt that Cody will be able to increase his range to the 3 point line and in college he was a decent rebounder so I really so not think he will be one of the better rebounders in the NBA. Love is the best overall power forward when he is healthy he can run the floor, spread the court, post up smaller players, really good pick and roll and pick and pop player so he pretty much does it all on the court.
Love didn't have three point range when he came into the league, plus he couldn't get his shot off without being blocked when he was on the doorstep. Love improved quite a bit from year one to year two by extending his range out to the three point line, and by figuring out ways to get his shot off down low. I think Zeller is similar in that Zeller has a pretty good shot, but doesn't have legitimate 3 point range......yet. Maybe he can develop that in time, like Love did. I think Zeller is also going to have to figure out ways to get shots off in the paint, without getting it blocked. So, on the offensive end, I see a lot of similarities between rookie Love and rookie Zeller.
The biggest difference is rebounding. Love was a beast coming in, and only got better. Zeller is a decent rebounder, but never will be in Love's class.
Zeller runs better than Love, and I think Zeller's ability to run will be what distinguishes Zeller from other PF's in the Association.
I might be mistaken, but I believe that in one of the workouts Zeller was at for a certain team (honestly don't remember which team), he shot 72% from NBA 3 or something crazy like that
....was the chair?
The point stands that he has room to become a good 3 point shooter, while also being 7 feet tall and having an above average post game. How many guys in the league have that combination of skills?
I am simply saying that hitting a bunch of threes when you are standing there shooting one after another is not the same as hitting threes in a game, when you are tired, with a hand in your face, and you haven't taken a shot in the past five minutes. Until Zeller shows me that he can do it in a game I will withhold judgment.
Like you, I like a lot of things Zeller brings to the table, and I think he will get drafted in the top 9 picks. He is one of my absolute favorite players in this draft.
He is going to get outmuscled until he puts on some weight. Mbakwe gave him fits last year.
i dont think zeller will ever be able to develop a deadly jumper like that of kevin love. thats just my opinion. Love has really nice smooth form and despite being so big he can still get shots off quick even though he can shoot over most people anyways. Love has a really high IQ ive heard many players/scouts say hes one of the best break starters in the league, even during his UCLA days i remember think wow hes such a beast on the boards and he would then make a beautiful fast-break starting pass, alot of time full court hitting a teamate for a layup. Kevin Love some would argue is the best rebounder in the game on the offensive and defensive end. I think Zeller is a really nice prospect and will have a solid career somewhere but i never see him being the All-star/borderline superstar that Love is. Love is a beast thats just been on some bad teams their finally showing promise w rubio and the new crew tho, but if this guy opts out he can go somewhere and be a game changer. Say he goes to Houston, i think they become serious contenders
