Cody Zeller to Sacramento
To make this short, Cody Zeller visited Sacramento today for an individual workout. One of my buddies was there for media stuff and said Zeller was for real. I think he has real stretch 4 potential. Not sure what protocol is, but he went out to lunch with the coaching staff if that is any indication. Heres a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abPOpSJ0ovQ
As a Kings fan, I'm looking at Trey Burke. I'm sorry, but this team is starving for a leader that will command respect from cousins and can score. At that point we can look to trading some of the other guards we have. We already tried to pair someone up with Cousins before in Thomas Robinson. Unless Zeller is undoubtley one of the better shot blockers in this draft, the Kings don't need him. That is unless they plan on slapping Big Cuz in the face after telling him they are invested in him. Zeller is cool and all that, but if we are trying to pair a big man with Cousins I'd rather go with Alex Len any day of the week in comparison.
I like Zeller to SAC. That front court will be a problem.
It is strange how it went from people questioning Zellers range to him being a stretch 4. The guy was 0-2 in two years at Indiana from behind the line. I don't doubt he can make some but I don't know if he will shoot a high enough percentage to be considered a stretch 4. He is one of the most intriguing big men prospects in this draft for sure though. I have a alot of questions about him concerning finishing at the rim and playing interior defense. A 7 footer with his athleticism should be blocking more than 45 shots a year in college in my opinion.
No doubt he is worth a top 10 pick this year and I would be pretty happy if he fell to the Sixers at 11 but as the days go on it doesn't look like that will happen with 7th and 9th being possible landing spots either in Sacramento or Minnesota.
A Zeller/Cousins frontcourt could be very scary.
I suspect he is a much better NBA scorer than what he is expected to be. With that said I stand by Zeller being the best player in this draft. I have the first pick I am taking Zeller. There are other good players available and sometimes you have team needs. But this is a no brainer to me, Zeller is young. Should be the #1 pick and there may be trades to grab him I suspect.
Zeller has always intrigued me as a prospect. As an Illinois fan, I have really enjoyed watching him play in the Big Ten, and watching him and Meyers Leonard face off against each other was truly fun to watch.
I love Zeller as a prospect, and I think he is a perfect fit for the Kings at power forward. Even though Zeller is showing the ability to his outside shots, I would still like to see him perform in the post with his crafty post moves.
Bottom line is: If Cody Zeller lands in Sacramento, he and DeMarcus Cousins will SCARE opposing frontcourts for many years to come.
I love Zeller as a prospect for the Kings if Oladipo, Burke, and Porter are off the board, which they all very well could be. I think the best case for the Kings would be if they could land Burke at seven to try and trade Minny Thornton and Jimmer for the 9th and grab Zeller. I would love that as a Kings fan, not sure how much the Wolves like their SG choices in this draft though.
That's where I have him going. I think he'd be a great fit with Cousins. I'm not sure if he'd be able to stretch the floor all the way out to the 3 pt line like a typical stretch right off the bat, but I think he'll be able to operate from the top of the key, elbows, FT line extended and baseline, giving Cousins the paint. There could be some overlap with what Patterson brings to the table, but I think Cody can be more versatile offensively because he can put the ball on the deck, passes and moves very well without the ball. I would be concerned a bit defensively since Cody is not a rim protector, but he does have good, quick feet so I think he can at least be a solid position defender and someone who can cut off angles as a help defender. In any case, the Kings would have one of the deeper front courts in the league with Zeller, Cuz, Patterson and Thompson.
I know its nearly impossible for players to look bad in edited workout tapes like that, but I think that could be eye opening for some since he hardly took any jumpers in college. Looks like he's sped up his release a bit. It looks very clean and natural. Love how he snaps off his follow through.
I think it's safe to say that he won't be playing the same role in the NBA that he played in college.
Will hurt his career. Cousins will be shopped if they grab Zeller. I disagree with people saying that's a good fit. Zeller fits better with a fast PG. I really question peoples knowledge seeing Cousins and him a good fit. Would they even get along? Cousins shoots low percentage for a big so let's add Zeller who is not a post banger too? Add Zeller and ship Cousins or just don't add Zeller. Bad fit. Sacremento will shop Cousins if the grab Zeller and they should shop the headcase.
The Wolves have a video interview with Zeller on their website. He said he fills like he's more of a PF shooter than a true low post center, but Zeller also said he can play both at the 4 or 5, Just needs more work on his low post skills. Imo he would fit good with the Kings & DMC.
