How bad does he look tonite?
Don't wanna react too much to 1 game but he's developing a trend of looking very mediocre against top tier competition...
He's been blocked 5 times so far on weak looking post shot or lay in attempts...Wondering what his stock is going to look like if they lose this game..
Apologies to @beard20. Just realized we posted a nearly identical thread but I was a split second late.. Damn it!..lol
He's not as athletic as advertised. Not as skilled as advertised.
Big with no bust potential. Limited ceiling.
lols i like your scouting report
absolutely zero ups and very overrated footwork.
We'll consider Tyler Zeller and average player so we'll give him a "5", using a scale of 1-10 how much better is Cody?
(1-4 would be worse, 5 would be same, 6-10 would be better)
I give Cody a 7 as I feel hes better, but it's not dramatic.
It is a bad game, but not a death sentence for his top 5 prospects. Thomas Robinson got blocked just as often in the national championship game last year and he still went high.
That said, since so much of Zeller's game centers around his ability to score down low, this game was a bad sign. He does some things really well, such as run the floor and present angles for passers, but his inability to finish over/around length is a big problem. Working on his jump shot and his post moves could really help him.
I was going to write a little post about how ineffective he has been tonight, and when I returned to my laptop others are thinking the same.
He really has been underwhelming against people his size with equal or greater athleticism in his college career. The main thing that has made him look like a scrub tonight was Syracuse' zone/team defense that swarmed and smothered the undersized Indiana team. Zeller was definitely not used to anything like the defense tonight and he won't face any zone in the NBA.
I think that Zeller's natural position is at the 4/PF, especially on the next level. He will need to take advantage of his speed and put on some muscle to compete with the big boys.
His draft stock could drop a little, but I still have faith in his ability to get better in every facet of his game especially with a better surrounding squad.
He will learn to not be timid and go hard in the paint (in time).
I believe that he is a capable mid-range jump shooter who could be effective hitting the 'Timmy D' bank shot. He has not been able to really show his mid-range game in college because his WHOLE team is about jump shooting so they relied on him to be there sole post presence.
As he builds his confidence and gains strength, his whole arsenal will begin to blossom a few years into his NBA career.
I wouldn't mind drafting the next Nick Collison for the right price.
Yup I think his ceiling is Nick Collison. The funny thing is this site has Zeller compared to LaMarcus Aldridge lol
how bad? i think the potential top five teams in this years draft lottery just ran away from him. i see him being like his bro. a solid role guy at the 4 spot who can give you some scoring and quicker feet on defense. i feel like his game is built for the college game but just not the pro's. i would actually take mcdermott over him.
That's actually 2 straight games like that as he looked awful against Temple. He struggles against big guys. He needs to learn to face up and knock down shots from 18-20 ft (when he's out there he just looks to screen and pass) and would help if he could put the ball down and drive. That 1/2 hook is predictable. As a team IU has nobody who can score 1-1 or create in the 1/2 court
