IknoBall12ParticipantI want to start by saying this isn’t just some pissed off duke fan who’s reacting because we lost to mercer. I’ve had time to reflect on the loss. I’ve been saying that I haven’t been seeing coach k coach with the passion and fervor I’m used to seeing. Now I’m human and understand that he lost his brother not too long ago and I’m more than positive that has affected him this year. But as far as the acc tournament and the NCAA tournament I rarely saw coach k get into any of his guys faces and demand they play better. What happened to the coach k of last year who was hitting plumlee in his chest 1 game demanding more and the. Jumping into plumlees arms the next game? He doesn’t even work the referees like I’m used to seeing. I know here was critical of Jabari but I don’t feel Jabari had as nearly as bad a game as say Rodney hood. Coach k made no adjustments and could have put Bari and Rodney in better positions to score since they were just jump shooting the entire game. Smh

IhateusernamesParticipantI said the same thing in a different thread. Im glad someone understands. That was one of the worst coaching displays Ive ever seen. People need to get over the Awe of Coach K and realize he just flat out sucked the other day, and has really not been any good at x’s and o’s for sometime now.

Ghost01ParticipantYou are completely on point to bring up Coach K to blame.
The first time I really thought Coach K had a team underachieve, it was the year they had Kyrie. But with his injury, and him awkwardly coming back for the NCAA tournament, there was a legitimate excuse.
But this year, from start to finish Duke underachieved. They lost winnable games, played close games when they should have won easily, and ultimately couldn’t beat a vastly inferior team in the tournament.
His system favors guard play. I know Parker and Hood took a ton of shots, but his offense didn’t lend them any favors. They weren’t given the ball in situations that favored them. There was a lot of guard dribbling, with Hood having to catch and shoot, and Parker having to post up.
I know Duke’s team had a huge flaw down low this year, but I just thought K could have done a better job.
There’s no question he’s a great coach and has a proven winner. But this year wasn’t his finest.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI got tore up by criticizing K, but I’m glad other people agree with me on his coaching this year. With the amount of talent he had, 2 talented wings in Parker and Hood, Sulaimon, Cook, Dawkins, Jefferson. No ACC regular season title, no ACC tournament title, loss to Mercer in the NCAA tournament. Of course they had no inside presence but where’s Plumlee? The guy is not a Division 1 player. People say Duke can’t coach big men, and it’s hard to argue with that with Plumlee being non-existent all year on a team DESPERATELY needing size. K is a hall of famer, and multiple national champion, but dropped the ball with this team big time.
