Austin Rivers to the Wizards for Marcin Gortat. Wow. Wizards got more guard depth and the Clippers removed their logjam at guards by bringing a possible starting C. Does this mean DJ is gone?

Rumours are that DeAndre Jordan may opt in so he can be traded. I don’t see Gortat and Jordan playing together so I’d figure he is likely moving on.

If Jordan does move on it gives the Clippers a nice bit of cap space too.

Rumours are that Dallas are after Jordan but after previous fiasco would they risk it.

One thought I’ve had if Houston offered Clippers a couple of future firsts would Clippers do Ryan Anderson for Jordan. This would only be if Capela signed a big offer sheet elsewhere and it reunites CP3 and Jordan.

I like this move a lot. Washington does not have anything from the bench to get it going in the backcourt.

Either Cousins is coming to DC. John Wall may have told them, or Oubre or Porter are getting traded.

Apparently Troy Brown who wore number 0 in college chose number 6 because Cousins may be coming. And Cousins followed Troy Brown on Instagram after the draft.

Enough is enough…the fact Ernie Grunfeld still has a job is unbelievable! Look at his draft history. Really, go look at it. Besides Wall (obvious, and there were rumors of them taking Evan Turner over Wall), Beal was a nice pick, but ill go on record to say I wanted Drummond that year (yes he ended up dropping), Oubres a decent prospect (who apparently just unfollowed us) and Porter is a nice piece but makes the max now.

You couldnt get rid of Gortats contract because you wouldnt attach the first round pick to make it happen, and then you pick Troy Brown.

Even though im not a Austin Rivers fan AT ALL, he is a decent backup for Wall and Beal. But all you did was shed 900k and now have Mahinmi at Center (oh, we just signed him for 17 mill a year recently).

Honestly if they dont get Cousins, just trade everyone for picks and money, fire Ernie. Makes me sick that the same ownership group who won the Stanley Cup, still cant figure this out for a basketball crazy city.

The trade he made to rent Bogdanovic for half a season for a first round pick was horrible! He also signed Ian Mahinmi for 64 million for 4 years. Yikes.

Id have to agree. I think a deal based around Oubre and either Beal or Porter are going to the Pels for Boogie in a sign & trade is happening. The Wiz have no big to replace Gortat.

I like this move for the Wizards. Rivers is going to give the Wizards that offensive boost off the bench that it’s needed for years. I won’t go as far as saying this salvages their draft, but it’s a step in the right direction. Gortat didn’t really want to be here, and his skills and production significantly declined over the past two years. That said, I do think he still has some valuable and would probably mesh better with the Clippers. He gives them a nice backup option if DJ leaves.

As for the speculation that this sets up a Wall/Cousins reunion, I can’t see that happening without giving up some combination of Beal, Oubre and Morris. That’s concerning, because if last year taught us anything, the Wizards play their best basketball with Beal as the lead guard/scorer. If they can manage to only give up Oubre and Morris, that would be better, but that would put a lot of pressure on Rivers and Troy Brown.

A lineup of Wall/Rivers/Porter/Cousins/Mahinmi looks nice on paper, but for a team that has struggled to stay healthy, find chemistry and remain positive in the face of adversity, I’m worried that Cousins’ attitude and injury history will excerbate’s those struggles. Let’s not forget, John Wall isn’t exactly the best at staying healthy either, and he was mostly at odds with his teammates all of last year.

I know trade ideas always get bashed, however I would rather see the Wizards get rid of Porter in a deal for Cousins over Beal. After this draft picking up another SF it only makes sense, seeing that they have Porter/Oubre/Brown at SF and only Beal/Rivers at SG unless I’m missing someone.

I could see a trade revolving around Porter, set to make $26 mil this year, and maybe Mahinmi for Cousins. Giving the Wizards a lineup of Wall, Beal, Oubre, Morris, and Cousins with Rivers, Brown, and Smith off the bench. That gives Wall more room to operate as everyone else is a respectable shooter.

This is all speculation at this point as Cousins may go to Dallas, LA or stay in New Orleans, but I think that’s a more beneficial trade for both teams as NO has been searching for a starting caliber SF for what seems like forever now.

Solid points brought up though especially since I did not see many Wizards games last season, and being a Bulls fan.

Having Porter as the centerpiece of a Cousins trade would be great for the Wizards, but I can’t imagine New Orleans would want to take on Porter’s $100+ million contract. Especially since they’ve already made the mistake on overpaying for a glue guy SF, Solomon Hill. Porter would be a massive upgrade over Hill, but is that worth $100 million when you could get a proven scorer in Beal?

Porter was top 15 in the league in RPM and would be the perfect versatile forward fit in New Orleans. He might be their best small forward since Jamal Mashburn. The Hornets always have an option at the 2 with Holiday on the roster, and depth is a lot easier to find cheap in the backcourt. Satoransky would be a good fit in New Orleans if he could be included as well. Hill will probably be playing mostly the 4 due to his shooting limitations.

Considering the Pelicans only traded Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, and what ended up being Justin Jackson for Cousins, a package centered around Porter, Oubre, and a couple first round picks is not that far off considering Cousins is coming off of major surgery.
