    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10204879/andrew-bynum-cleveland-cavaliers-suspended-trade-block

The Cleveland Cavaliers suspended center Andrew Bynum indefinitely Saturday for conduct detrimental to the team.

    Bynum

In addition, the Cavs will begin aggressively looking to trade Bynum, sources told ESPN.com.

The team has until Jan. 7 to decide if it will guarantee his contract for the rest of the season. Bynum signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Cavs last summer but the team-friendly contract was only $6 million guaranteed.

Bynum did not travel with the team to Boston for Saturday’s game. The decision to suspend Bynum was made Friday, sources said. It was unclear what led to the suspension.

After missing all of last season with knee injuries, Bynum has returned to play in 24 games (19 starts) and average 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. He’s shooting just 42 percent from the floor.

Bynum has admitted on several occasions that he’s struggled mentally with learning to play with less mobility and in pain with his knees.

Because of his flexible contract and that he’s proven he can play again, Bynum could have some suitors in the trade market.

I can understand Bynum’s struggles since he was out all of last year with knee issues and he wasn’t just going to come back after a year off and peform at an all-star level right away.  There is absolutely ZERO excuse for being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.  We obviously don’t know what he did, but the lack of humility with Bynum seems startling.  You would think that after a year off he would be humbled, come in as a good teammate, work his butt off and try to get better every day.  That obviously hasn’t happened with him.  I don’t think any team should pick him up, but someone will obviously give him another shot since he is so young and still has a lot of potential.  He has some SERIOUS red flags with attitude and leadership and those should be taken into account before someone else picks him up.

He never had the drive to become a consistent superstar when it seemed inevitable. I’m not at all surprised that he seems to lack the drive to make a legitimate comeback now. It’s a real shame, but not all that surprising.

Welp…Safe to say Varejao’s staying put for a while. Now the Cavs can move on and focus on upgrading their wing players and getting another big man. Doubt they make the playoffs this year anyway.

I don’t know what he did but I hardly think anything he might have done off the court coud be more detrimental to his team than what he’s doing on the court.

Wow! I always knew that Bynum was really immature, but to turn down an NBA career? I heard on Twitter from Adrian Wojnarowski that his career is most likely done because a lot of teams this off season knew he lost that passion he had for basketball. I guess that injury really has set him back physically and mentally… Once this happened in the summer, I thought he could be a 12 and 8 player and it looks like he won’t even become like that either.

What do the Cavs do now? Buy him out or trade him?

They could trade or cut him and win. If he is cut then the Cabs will be 6 million below the 60 million dollar soft cap, if they trade him he is an even bigger asset because they can go over the soft cap in returning contracts. I would send him to Houston with Zeller and a late first rounder for Asik and D Moe in a heartbeat. I think a complicated multi team deal will be the real result though probably coming right after New Years.

Boston is kicking the Cavs a$$ right now as we type and maybe they are just a bottom 5 NBA team and are destined for a top 6 pick. IDK but dumping Bynum for professional level NBA players is the only hope to make the playoffs or even remain watchable.

When he was first traded to Philly didn’t they offer him an extension and he turned it down? Does anyone know exactly what happened and what was offered before he injured himself?

As a Cavs fan I am really happy about this development. I have been saying for a while that Bynum is the biggest liability and only trade asset that is not a member of the young core. He makes 12 million and can be traded for a guy that makes more but could be cut and create 6 million in space for a team. That’s something teams want and need and imo makes Bynum a huge trade asset. Hopefully Adik is the target and I know Morey could work magic with a "in season expiring contract". Teams like the Nets could use that to save 20 million dollars, not that they want to but Bynum for Pierce would make the Cavs a playoff team. He is from New Jersey. Maybe Bynum for Pau, that would save the Lakers at least 15 million.

Chris Grant’s record as a drafter is up for questioning and even though I like the drafts personally they have been suspect at best. He is undoubtably a better trader than drafter and hopefully he will be able to turn this Bynum thing into gold. I wish PHX was struggling then Sarver would be the perfect cheap bastard to trade with. Maybe Chicago.

I seen this coming from a since the summer. Even if bynum overcame his issues with his knees, he still a cancer in the lockeroom..dating all the way back to his rookie laker days, which carried on to 76ers and now the cavs. No remorse for the cavs the should’ve did a better background check with bynum.

Why would anyone trade for Andrew now Knowing the Cavs don’t want him and can get out of the balance of his contract by waiving him by Jan 7.  If I were a team interested I would just wait for him tp clear waivers

I’m not giving the Cavs anything as they are going to dump him anyway

A team would trade for him because they want to free up money. For instance if a team had a expiring contract for 12 million and they don’t want him they could trade for Bynum and then cut Bynum and instead of having to pay the other guy 6 million more for the rest of the season they could free up6 million dollars and pay less payroll or taxes.

If Utah wants to move Richard Jefferson, a vet wing, then they could cut their payroll by 5 million trading Bynum for Jefferson. The Bucks could send Butler or a team like PHX could let the Cavs pay Okafors 14 million dollar deal and tey could cut Byum and literally save 8 million US dollars. Insurance is probably paying most of that contract but its still and option. Or Bynum and Earl Clark could get u Granger who doesn’t even play for the Pacers. Clark can defend elite large 3s and quick 4s while they could have Bynum back up Hibbert. We saw what they looked like with Hibbert out the lineup in stretches of minutes in the playoffs. Or the Pacers cut Bynum and save 6 million and use it next year to go into the cap to pay Lance.

"I never thought he took the game seriously or truly loved it. He’s just lazy and doesn’t want to put the work in to get better."

Everyone disagreed with me but living in southern Cali, everyone here knew how lazy and unpassionate he was.  He’s a headcase that had so much potential and doesn’t want to get better.

Honestly, I don’t understand why the Cavs organization brought this guy in anyway, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Bynum was one of the reasons the Cavs have had so much issues. Many people had them as a sure-fire playoff team, but the focus just hasen’t been there.

I wonder how having an uncommitted player like Bynum around affected Waiters and Kyrie. I know that players only meeting was mainly between the young guys, but it probably doesn’t help when the only guy on your team with a ring is Bynum. I don’t know what he did yet, so I’m expecting the worst, but he’s always been a little childish.

I also don’t like the idea of a player playing through pain like Bynum was. Not only is it a matter of time before he got injured again, but it truely tests why that player is playing the game. Was Bynum playing because he wanted to be part of a team, or was he playing because he wanted to collect another paycheck?

Anyway, good riddence; There are millions of other players out there who would do anything to be in his position, and now one of those guys might get a shot in his place.

If Bynum’s knees are as bad as people indicate then he maybe he should consider retiring, he’s had this extra payday from Cleveland now. He does not want to end up walking with a stick in a few years time. I also wonder whether a total break from the NBA for a bit might help him as it would give him time to adjust mentally to his limitations and a total rest could allow his knees to settle a bit perhaps. He is still only 26 so has time on his side.

The one thing that always struck me about Bynum was did the Lakers situation ever really help him, it seemed that he was always on the trading block regardless of what he did and so did he just sometimes go into cruise mode Did he think why should I bust a gut for Kobe and co as they cold ship me out at anytime.

Even if he is waived then he could be a nice short term pick up for a contender. I doubt he’d sign long term as both parties would want to keep options open.

He signed to an extremely team friendly contract so besides the rub off effect it could have on the youngins his deal is an asset. In the new CBA NBA an expiring contract is like a first round pick, its priceless even to GMs because they choose to overvalue its value. The bad news is that teams just don’t have albatross contracts growing on trees like they used to.

Oh man… I bet teams are waiting like sharks to pounce on Bynum if no one trades for him and the Cavs waive him!

If he knows what’s good for him, he’ll take a vet minimum and I know a lot the contenders would take the gamble on him. A big with his body and his ability to score in the post? Fuhgetaboutit… It may take some convincing on the teams parts though, because he just doesn’t wanna play basketball.

I guess this would mean some more time for Anthony Bennett then. He was thrust in to the lineup for the final minutes of a close game a while ago, which means Mike Brown may have some trust in him. I hope he continues to play quality minutes like this constantly, it just hurts to see another wasted top 5 pick.

If he is waived, I wonder if OKC would be in the hunt for him or if they are happy with Steve Adams backing up Perkins at the moment, also I’d guess Brooklyn would do their upmost to get him and might even offer him a longer contract.

As a Phoenix fan, our training staff would be an asset in trying to help Bynum manage his knee problems but we’ve already got a lot of young front courters and will need to give Alex Len playing time in due course so it doesn’t look a good fit.

The possible losers here could be Houston looking to shift Asik’s big contract for if Bynum was waived he’d he a good cheaper pick up for interested team.
