Not huge on trade ideas but thinking through what CLE could do to compete for a championship this year and found one that may work (trade machine accepted). Keep in mind, this is clearly a trade for the Cavs with the thought that LAC and CHA are rebuilding and want to acquire some assets and picks.

    CLE gets:
    DeAndre Jordan
    Kemba Walker

    CHA gets:
    Iman Shumpert
    Isaiah Thomas
    CLE 1st round pick

    LAC gets:
    Tristan Thompson
    Jeremy Lamb
    CLE’s Brooklyn pick

According to Windhorst, LAC has already said they would accept Thompson and the Brooklyn pick for Jordan.

This would allow the Cavs to compete for another championship this year and maybe keep LeBron for the future if Jordan and Walker commit. CHA and LAC get some assets/picks to start their rebuild. If LeBron and Jordan leave after this year, I don’t think giving up the potential #8 pick really matters. Their not getting a franchise player with this pick and they will probably have top 3 picks anyways for the next few years without LeBron and they can use those to rebuild.

I don’t mind the idea as a whole, but I feel like Charlotte could get more out of this. First, is Deandre really worth that much more than Kemba? You have Kemba (and Lamb) getting traded for a bad contract/player, a small point guard who hasn’t got back to his normal self and a late first. While you have Deandre getting trade for a bad contract/decent player, a good shooting guard on a decent contract and a lottery pick. In my mind, I think Kemba is worth more and Deandre is worth less (you even noted that LAC would accept Thompson and the BKN pick, so why does Charlotte need to throw in Lamb to sweeten the deal?).

If I was Charlotte and I was to trade Kemba, I would definitely attach one of those bad contracts with him. Cleveland also has the ability to send back bad contracts that have less years on them (so they are not AS bad).

For example, if Cleveland is in desperation mode (and I think they should be as this might be their last year with a chance at the title for awhile if Lebron leaves) you can offer Kemba, Zeller and Batum for Thompson, Shumpert, Frye and Thomas. There’s a bunch of combinations you can do between these two teams as they both have a lot of money in bad contracts.
