Real class move by the Silver and nba by drafting Austin to the Nba. Allowing the kid to live his dream and walk on stage was the right thing to do.

agreed. I was deffinently thinking the same thing. I was actually thinking it would be cool to see a team like the spurs draft him late in the 2nd round or sumthing, but it was deffinently great to see him walk the stage

Best moment of the draft.  Nothing but class from the NBA for doing that.  I really hope Austin can live a long, healthy life.  The last few days have been the worst days of his life, and you really have to feel bad for the kid.  To have his dreams shattered without a chance to fulfill them has to be devastating.  Best of luck to you Isaiah.

And to whoever negged me is as classless as they come.  Pat yourself on the back buddy, you’re the douche of the night.

This is why the NBA gets it right. I remember last year in Sterns last draft they brought back Hakeem the Dream on stage to surprise Stern (Hakeem was Sterns first announcement ever as the commish back in 1984). It was a total surprise to all of us and a really great moment for us (especially as a guy whose favorite player of all-time is Olajuwon).

Then this year in the middle of the first they stop and recognize an athlete whose dreams were broken over a medical condition. They didn’t have to do it. Im sure no one was thinking about Isiah Austin anymore after the devastating and resolute announcement. And it wasn’t just a PR move to put forth a "NBA Cares" image, i wholeheartedly believe it was genuine and thoughtful and empathetic.

Like Simmons said, No other league would have taken the time to recognize a fallen prospect. The NFL is the Wallstreet of Sports, its ALL ABOUT THE $$$$ and is cuthroat and heartless. Its exactly why the NBA has always felt like a fraternity and family and less a business to me. Long Live Isiah Austin and the NBA.
