Reading a poster talk about Charles Barkley I ended up looking vids of him. I think it might have been Joewolf. The guy was a freak in athlete for his size and weight. I was extremely young when I watched him and hated him because I thought he was he poor sport and got easily mad about everything. I was extremely young, and I’m from the Boston Area and Just hated the 76er growing up.

Damn, my bad. I didn’t back up my words with comma’s and period’s or get to correct everything else. I tried to fix everything, but it’s too late. The internet at my work place lags every now then when a lot is going on.

This takes me back! The Sixers had a chance to be one of the best teams in the east for years. They should have had Barkley, Dr. J, Moses Malone and Brad Daugherty on one team. Instead the Sixers traded Daugherty for Roy Hinson and traded Moses Malone for Jeff Ruland. Yeah those trades worked out well.

Barkley and Larry Bird are the two guys who I always envsioned were overrated in their time until I watched their highlights and saw some of the insane things the did.

It’s almost impossible to believe the guy was only 6’4”-6’5”. What a beast.

Yes that is true, ive seen him side by side Jordan (6"6) and Barkley is slightly shorter.  He did have long arms though.

the Karl Malone vs Barkley debate is very close – with Malone having a longer career and Barkley’s career cut short due to back problems.  Barkley was more skilled, the guy is a freak.

You either love him or hate him.  But if you watched enough footage or docos on him you can see he was very passionate and emotional.  He never wanted to leave Philly but was just so heartbroken that his team could not get far enough in the playoffs.

Two of my favourite memories of him.  Vs the Spurs in a playoff series and it came down to final play of the game.  They put David robinson on Barkley iso 1 on 1 and barkley made a clutch three right in front of the 7ft admiral…

The other was the greates first quarter I have ever seen for an indivdual.  He was playing against the Warriors and they had Byron Houston guard him. He put up something 27 points in the first quarter and ended up with 50+ for the game.

MJ and Barkley measured the same height at the ’92 Olympics.  Both were 6’4 3/4" without shoes, and throughout their careers they were both listed at 6’6", so it makes sense.   Barkley had really long arms like you said, he was short for a PF height wise but his arms and leaping ability made up for it.

Yep he was terrific, his ball-handling and passing ability was just terrific for a PF, and is something people always seem to forget about when remembering him

Just in case someone wondered… he was measured at 6’4.75” in socks and 6’6” with shoes. Extremely undersized… but I guess it’s a great example of skill beating size (unusual though).
