Minnesota gets:
#4 pick (Oladipo)
Tyrus Thomas
Jeff AdrienCharlotte gets:
#9 pick
Derrick Williams
Greg StiemsmaHow bad does Minnesota want Oladipo? Rumblings of an attempt of Min to move ahead of Phoenix to get him. Could this trade work?
The price for Oladipo is Derrick Williams, a capable backup C, and taking on the contract of Tyrus Thomas. Would Charlotte even want Derrick Williams or would unloading the contract and locker room presence of Thomas be enough? Could the Bobcats move back with Minnesota and still get Alex Len?

B-ball fanParticipantI like that trade. Oladipo is a great fit on Minny, so it is easy to see why they want him. Derrick Williams could get a new start at Charlotte and the Bobcats have so many holes they could just take BPA at 9. It all depends on whether the Bobcats really want somebody only available at 4. That is probably going to be Bennett, Len or, less likely, McLemore. I think Williams plus the 9th pick in the draft is more valuable than just Anthony Bennett, for example, for the Bobcats, while Minny is in more of a win-now mode and was just not getting enough out of Williams.

cuseflynn10ParticipantIf I’m the Bobcats I’d do this in a heartbeat. You get rid of Thomas’ contract which is good, but more importantly, they add the 2011 #2 overall pick in Derrick Williams who could develop in Charlotte as their PF, as well as move only 5 spots back. When you’re an underachieving, young team, you need to acquire as many young assets as possible, and in a draft where I personally see a top tier with nine players, it would be smart for Charlotte to trade back (Noel, McLemore, Porter, Oladipo, Burke, Len, Zeller, Bennett, Shabazz are my top 9 prospects in no order.)
Charlotte doesn’t need Burke but the other 8 are possibilities since MKG can play either forward position. But since Charlotte would be adding Williams, they would hope that Len, Zeller, or Shabazz is available at #9, and if they aren’t they could still go for KCP who I may replace Bazz with in my top 9 soon. And if they didn’t want any of those assets, they could trade back even further.
As for Minnesota, I don’t know if I like this deal as much. Williams would naturally fit better as a power forward and is blocked by Kevin Love right now, but why move him for Oladipo? You’d be solving you’re SG problems, but have a hole at SF then. Plus if they need perimeter scoring, there are a ton of SGs available late first and early second. I think Minnesota is better off keeping Williams, not taking on a bad contract, and selecting either Bazz or KCP at #9.

aztwulfParticipantI think that trade is pretty one sided in favor of Charlotte. Thomas is a tough contract to take back, plus you are giving up your backup center in a year where Pek is a free agent.
I think Minny is better off keeping Stiemsma, Williams, and the 9th and simply seeing what they can pick up at 9. Minny needs a shooter, preferably with size, to play the 2, but they could also use a SF, or Len, if Len was available at 9.
So, Minny would probably have CJ, KCP, Len, and ‘bazz all on their radar. In a worse case scenario, Minny would also have takers for pick if they wanted to trade back a ways and target one of the second tier C’s, SF’s, or SG’s.
I would run from this trade.

esperanzafleet69Participantwould olidipo be there at four? they need a top 3 pick to secure him, idk if the fourth is safe enough.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipantWhat are you talking about? The top 3 is pretty much a lock between Porter, McLemore, and Noel

cuseflynn10ParticipantI think there are 4 players going up for the top 3 picks – Noel, McLemore, Burke, and Porter.
– Burke can only get drafted in the top 3 by Orlando since Cleveland has Kyrie and Washington has Wall.
– Noel has injury, weight, and offensive issues to deal with, but he’ll still go top 3 no matter what in a class like this.
– Porter could go #1 if Cleveland wants to fill the immediate need, but Noel makes more sense long term. Plus I bet Gilbert will try to bring back LeBron when he gets the chance.
– McLemore could go to Cleveland, but they did just pick Dion. Orlando makes the most sense, but he does have to compete with Burke. If I’m the Magic, I’d take McLemore, but that’s just me.Washington won’t even touch Burke or McLemore I’m guessing since they already have Wall/Beal. So in a situation where Noel and Porter went top 2 (unlikely scenario in my opinion) I think Washington would look to trade down and any team 4-9 would be interested in moving up to add one of McLemore, Burke, or Oladipo. I think McLemore would go off the board before Oladipo in the event of a Washington trade, so I’d pretty much put the chances of Oladipo going top three at under 5% even though I really like Oladipo as a prospect right now.

arowsky205ParticipantOladipo would be great and all for Minny, but that is a lot to give up just to move up five spots. If they sit at #9, they can take McCollum, KCP, or Bazz. These guys might even be better fits than Oladipo because what Minny needs the most is shooters. KCP and McCollum can both light it up. D-Will won’t find too many minutes behind Love, but he is going to be very valuable come the trade deadline. The Tyrus Thomas contract puts this trade over the top. If they take him, they won’t have room to resign Pekovic to the $10 mil per year contract he is about to get. Oladipo is not worth that much.

NYBALLASParticipantAll I know is aran is messing up mocking Len to my twolves. No way they take him they are most def in a win now mode and make a push for the playoffs with everyone healthy next year. Using the #9 pick on Len is not helping towards that win now mode. He’s going to need to develop quite a bit for the pros offensively and defensively. Win now mode means at 9 they take KCP or Shabazz both give u a athletic wing scorer and are good shooters which more likely than not translates well to the pros, and spend $ in FA on a defensive big (assuming they bring back Pec). Alsp Shabazz can fill in in at the 3 too which gives them more options during a game KCP maybe can fill in there too but I doubt it still he’s a good 2guard prospect in this draft. Point is Minesotta in no way in any dream scenario do I see them taking Len and expect them to go for KCP or Shabazz. As a fan and observer id rather have them trade down and take Steven Adams if they want a big go for a big with a very high ceiling.

cuseflynn10ParticipantI think the T’Wolves would look at Len at #9. He is young and definitely raw, but his long term potential is worth the pick in a “top-weak” (opposite of top-heavy I guess) draft. While a SG like McLemore, Oladipo, Bazz, or KCP may be in reach depending on if they stay put or move up, I think Minnesota would gladly add Len at #9 as a project to come off the bench and then look to add one of Franklin, Crabbe, Karasev, Wolters, Bullock, Goodwin, Rice, Ennis, or Ledo at #26. SG is really deep in the late first where Minnesota will be picking. If they could add an NBA ready SG at #26 as well as a long term prospect in Len, they would gladly be willing to add Len at #9. Plus they could always try and go out and sign a SG in free agency if they aren’t satisfied with their 26th pick.

festar35ParticipantI really like the trade for both teams.
Derrick Williams has a perimeter game that would compliment MKG’s ability to drive and create. Potentially make up for his lack of a jump-shot as well.
As for the combination of Williams and Mullens it wouldn’t hurt them for a year and then look to find a C in the next free agency or look for a defensive C in this free agent class.

SubZeroParticipantI think that trade could work, but I also think they should just take KCP at that spot. He can shoot and would be deadly with Rubio in the open court. That way they can keep whoever they would be forced to trade without taking on a bad contract (Tyrus Thomas) like they would more than likely be forced to do.

WarblingSpamalopeParticipantI like the idea of moving up for the wolves but that trade is one sided. Five spots in a draft with not many tiers shouldn’t make you take the Thomas contract and lose Williams.

Mad MaxParticipantI think Minny needs a shooter at the SG spot rather than a defender/slasher like Oladipo. Although, if Odadipo is clearly superior might have to take him over Shabazz or KCP. I would think McLemore would be perfect for Minny, but doubt Minny would have the trade chips to get him.
As for this trade. Good dead for the LOLCats, Williams is still young, and has a lot of talent, and very well would be the #1 pick in this draft. Plus you still get a top 10 pick, and move a terrible contract. I also think Greg could be decent back-up big. Minnesota, it’s ok,just depends on how you feel about Oladipo. I still feel like Williams could get you more value down the line

sheltwon3ParticipantFlip would never do this deal. Bobcats get rid of a terrible contract and get 2 solid young players that can help them. Minny gets a bad contract and a player they could easily sign to move up 5 spots. I think Bobcats would just be lucky to move Thomas for only a loss of 5 draft spots
#4
Tyrus Thomas contractFor the
# 9 pick
Bobcats save money so they can overpay someone to come to their team and the get the big man they want in either Len or Zeller depending on who falls to them. Either pick would work for them and if they get Len, they could let him take his time so they have a better chance at Wiggins or Parker in the next draft.
