The Celtics will draft with the first pick

We have all talked who the Celtics might sign in FA or use some of their assets to trade for an All Star level guy. But on Draft Day I confidently predict that they will draft with the first pick -----.

The theory behind this is that FA opens on 1st July, the Celtics will have taken someone with top pick, but they will not likely have signed them. Like Wiggins in 2014 with the Cavs, LBJ came home and Wiggins was flipped for K-Love.

I've always said that Danny Ainge likes options, he will have an asset in likely Fultz that he can stick or twist with. If they go all in on draft day and pull a trade, it might lessen their FA options but merely drafting and holding the asset allows them to explore all options once FA opens.

so are you asking us who we

so are you asking us who we think boston picks or are you just pointing out that you think it would be wise to draft a player and then shop them in a trade? Im a little confused at what you are getting at.

In any case, i say draft fultz and of course have your phone nearby and listen to all offers. but how awesome is that you could be a top 5 team AND still adding young franchise changing talent to grow with. They are in a great position. And im a true believer in fultz, he will be playing in an all-star game before his rookie contract is up. Dont send him off unless its a deal that makes you better then the cavs right now.

I'm talking about drafting

I'm talking about drafting and not doing a trade before FA market opens in order to keep all options open.

They better hope they trade

They better hope they trade that pick. How often are the top two picks true super stars in the league?!? Who did Fultz beat in college. Go look. He literally beat no one. Oregon state and Colorado that's it. Don't tell me they didn't have anyone because that's BS. Ball is the once in a generation pg in this draft. History shows that one of them will be a bust and I'm rolling with Ball.

I agree they will use the

I agree they will use the pick because a trade before the draft limits them in free agency. Remember before the draft a pick counts for nothing for salary matching purposes. After the draft, the rookie cap hold does count for matching. If they wait to make a trade, in theory they could sign Hayward and trade for Butler or George (unlikely and involves creative cap management, but possible). Also, if the choice is between Hayward and Fultz or one of Butler or George, I think it is clear you take Hayward and Fultz. That way you add a star that helps you now and in a couple of years as the Cavs decline, plus you have Fultz to be your centerpiece in a few years.

Jesus, the Celtics best

Jesus, the Celtics best player last night in an ECF game was a 20 year old rookie, and you guys are talking about trading this pick?

Come on, get the notion out of your heads. The Celtics will NOT trade this pick, unless Kevin McHale and Robert Parish come back (Which their not).

The Celtics are the 5th youngest team in the league. You don't morgage your forture for Al Horford and a 5'9 pg. They will stay the course, continue to contend, develope their talent, and make the necessary moves when the time comes.

Jimmy Butler, Paul George, and Blake Griffen are not worth the #1 pick, because they are not helping us beat the Cavs.

Now that 2018 pick, that's another story...

I think Boston will be smart

I think Boston will be smart and keep the pick. They are a competitive team right now and in 4-5 years when LeBron is on the decline they will have a very nice team around Fultz, Brown and hopefully 2018 pick.

Whilst LeBron is at peak it'll be hard to win a Champisonship so they are in a perfect spot to build once he is gone.
